Gyo Fujikawa was an American illustrator and children's book author. A prolific creator of more than 50 books for children, her work is regularly in reprint and has been translated into 17 languages and published in 22 countries. Her most popular books, Babies and Baby Animals, have sold over 1.7 million copies in the U.S. Fujikawa is recognized for being the earliest mainstream illustrator of picture books to include children of many races in her work, before it was politically correct to do so.
A group of little kids from a variety of ethnic backgrounds finds different ways to play together.
I love how timeless this is, from puddle jumping to playing in boxes, these are activities kids will always enjoy. A cute little board book that celebrates fun together, but also pauses at the end to appreciate some time alone.
Of the three books by Gyo Fujikawa that I read I liked this one the best. The illustrations are darling and this one has just the right amount of words. My favorite spread was the "follow the leader" followed closely by the last spread with the child sitting in a tree "thinking about tomorrow".
This is a sturdy book that young kids would be able to play around with and read. The words are simple enough that this would be a good book for an early reader. There is repetition of a few words that kids would like to repeat when someone is reading to them.
The words in this story are really simple but my three year old loves this book. She will sit and look at the illustrations for ages and talk about what is happening on every page. That is the sign of a good book!
