The definitive reference for jewelry makers of all levels of ability--a complete, profusely illustrated guide to design, materials, and techniques, as well as a fascinating exploration of jewelry-making throughout history.
It's a brick of a reference book that's useful for anyone working with small bits of metal or other materials. It's a combination of catalog, primer and photo reference, still highly useful today. Are you trying to figure out what technique was used to produce a certain effect? Page through the related chapter until you can see something like it. If you can't name it, you can't google it.
Looking for inspiration? Lots of lovely photos by a diverse collection of artists. It also has a fair amount of tool porn, the jewelry field has a wide variety that you will never find outside of the small handful of shops that service it. The instructional material is good but I suspect that any beginner would overwhelmed by this book.
Being written in the early 80s, it doesn't cover 3d printing or some of the more exotic plastics that are being used today.
Simply the best of the best! The most comprehensive and definitive source on the fundamentals of this glorious craft. Not much a 'step by step' guide, but is exactly what it claims to be.
If you only ever buy one jewelers book, this is it. It was my bible for years. Im now re buying it as it was too heavy to bring with me when I relocated. its that good.
