Rate this book
A man from Tarsus. A persecutor who learned to love. A missionary who spread the truth. His name is Paul. Tarsus to Redemption is the second edition of the original manga series written by Matthew Salisbury and Gabrielle Gniewek, and illustrated by Sean Lam. This book retells the life of Paul, perhaps one of the most influential early Christian missionary. The story begins with his days as a persecutor of early Christians, his conversion on the road to Damascus, his adventures as a missionary of the early church, and ending with his eventual imprisonment and execution in Rome. This graphic novel also includes a map that traces his journeys, as well as factual insights about the real Paul who lived during height of the Roman Empire.

This book was recommended to me by Sister Fatima of the Daughters of St. Paul.

Like every Filipino, I'm aware of St. Paul's story. Reading it in the graphic novel form, however, brings a different kind of reading experience for me. Although it makes for a quick read, the book successfully conveyed how regretful Paul was for his transgressions.

The first volume of the series showed how remarkably good Saul was at his "job": persecuting Jesus' followers. He was not only very good at it, he was also very passionate about it for he truly believed that death is the payment for those who have "sinned". He was a merciless man. He believed that death was the only way the "sinners" will be purified. Later on, he will change his ways but will be haunted by his former group due to his defection.

The first book of the series concluded by showing several kids who were reading (in awe) the passage that Paul has written about love [1 Corinthians 13:4].

This was a gift given to me by my friend Jenny.

This was a great book. It tells a wonderful and quick story about Paul in a way that would interest most people I think.

American style manga. The account of Saul's life from persecuter of The Way (followers of Jesus) to his rebirth on the Damascus road as Paul and preacher of The Way. From the New Testament book of Acts.

The art is typical manga style, w/one glaring exception, there is a made up villian named Sakeri that has been redrawn to look like Jafar from the Disney movie Alladin, weird. And almost everyone is drawn as a white person.

The story makes me uncomfortable. Saul is referred to as Paul before his meeting w/Jesus, renaming is v. important symbolism in the Bible. then after his conversion when talking about his early days he's referred to as Saul. V.confusing. Later in the book Paul is shown alone on a hillside w/a woman in whom he has some interest, That would not have happened. And it is for this woman he writes 1st Corinthians 13.

The book doesn't give chapter or verse references to check against the original source texts.
