unfair to review this right after reading The Moonjumpers, but that's where it fell in the book stack. Marmaduke is so large he is bathed in the human's bathtub!, just like a samoyed or a husky of a collie etc. he drinks out of the toilet, how unusual - just like a cat or a dog. he grabs snacks off the counter, just like a lot of breeds and mutts. he's bullied by smaller dogs, just like the husky i was w/last night that was bullied by a doxie.
the writing is okay, its based on a movie, which is based on an enjoyable comic panel by Brad Anderson.
disappointing, but sadly kids will probably like it.

I haven't seen the movie, but the book stands well on its own without the movie or the comic strip. Marmaduke is a big dog looking for some friends. He meets some unsavory characters, and then some kind and fun ones.

Funny story about a dog trying to meet friends. Bully dogs are involved but in the end he finds lasting friends. Great for beginning readers.
