"Charlie Byrne`s favorite prop girl, Ginny Rowen, messes up a job, explaining later that her mind was on $50,000 she had turned over to a couple she now suspects are running an investment scam. Almost simultaneously, Byrne falls for Ginny. Intent on being her hero, he consults an old friend, who can`t help but who introduces Byrne to one Henry Stein, who can help, as in ``it takes a thief to catch a thief.`` Together they embark on a plot to scam the scammers. This may be a hackneyed premise, but Adams makes it into a page-turner with lots of twists and turns, flesh-and-blood characterizations and swift and rhythmic prose."
