Taken prisoner by the Norman invaders who destroyed her home and family, Lady Ashlynn finds her life in jeopardy – until her saviour comes in the form of a powerful Scottish warlord. Black Iain may be fierce, yet Ashlynn feels strangely safe in his arms…
Iain McAlpin’s reputation is well deserved, and no one will capture his heart. Having loved and lost once before, Iain wants only to be free of the rebellious, enticing Ashlynn. But then a decree from the King arrives…and commands Iain to make his beautiful captive his wife!
Joanna Fulford has been a full-time writer for a number of years now. Always an enthusiastic scribbler, she found that the urge to write only became stronger with time. In the end she decided to take a chance and quit the day job to find out if she could achieve success as an author. However, she couldn't have done it without her husband's unstinting support. Fortunately the gamble paid off. It has been a long haul, with plenty of financially lean periods, but it was well worth the effort. There is nothing quite like the buzz that comes with that phone call to say a publisher wants to buy your book.
Along the way She has been fortunate to have the support and encouragement of a strong and successful writers’ group. Not only has she appreciated the friendship of its members, but has also found their critical insight and feedback invaluable. So too is the support of her editor at Harlequin. With endless patience she steered her through the revisions of the first book and saved her from herself on numerous occasions. Being able to see the resulting improvement made the work enjoyable and rewarding.
As Joanna has always had a passion for Literature and History it ihas been no hardship to do the necessary research for her books. Initially her main interests were the Enlightenment and the Regency, but in recent years she have developed a fascination for the early Medieval period as well. Researching these different eras is exciting because there is always something new to be discovered. Invariably though she ends up with far more material than she can use so it's a matter of deciding what must be left out. Historical detail must never hold up the story. Joanna always has a rough plan in her head, a general idea of where the story is going, although the characters invariably take on a life of their own. They have no qualms about departing from the script and taking her down another path. It's fun to go with them and see where it leads. Frequently their way turns out to be better than her own so she’s learned to listen to them now.
When it comes to the historical background for a new story, Joanna always chooses events in which she has a keen interest, and which involve a serious conflict of some kind. The central love story is juxtaposed with this and gives the characters more obstacles to overcome. The Great Viking Invasion was fertile ground, as were the Luddite Rebellion and the Harrying of the North which provided the settings for her second and third books respectively. The Peninsular War is the background for His Counterfeit Condesa, and for its companion novel, The Caged Countess. This conflict was also the background to Redemption of a Fallen Woman which is Joanna’s contribution to the Castonbury Park series.
Borrowed, on pain of death, from my Mum's book shelves the famailiar red jacket of Mills and Boon Historical. I am a pushover for Medeavial melodrama when feeling poorly. The rich, vivid, passionate tale, told as only Mills and Boon can, was a real posset to this ailing gentlewoman in her dark warrior-less cot. Hohum. Toast
This is my favorite type of medieval romance! Heroine is captured by the hero and they are forced to marry. And the hero being a strong alpha, but also with high morals a gentleman slowly woes the heroine into loving him. *Swoon*
That is the basic plot of this book. Ashlynn is your spirited and quick witted noble English woman. Of course she is also astonishingly beautiful and I am happy to report very strong... mentally and physically. That is a character trait that is often lacking in heroines in medieval romances.
Iain is Black Iain the Scottish lord who's name strikes fear into all who hear it. The last thing Iain wants is to be saddled with a captive who his king forces him to marry following the slaughter of her family home and all her kin
Can Iain put aside his quest for revenge so he and Ashlynn can make a life?
I'm surprised I enjoyed this story as much as I did. At first I was struggling to get in to the narrative, but then finally connected with the heroine and felt for the hero's redemptive storyline. (Redemptive love, that is!) I really love stories that have a character overcome their adversity to loving again and this was a great example of one.
This was a good read. I really enjoyed the characters and their depth and strength. The plot was good, this was written well, with felt emotions, some action, a little suspense, understanding, courage and bravery, humor and a good HEA. I laughed and smiled, gasped and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Good for an anytime read (more for the lazy-day type) but not too gripping. Enjoy!
Finally a book that has a grest story and romantic love scenes without the soft porn (that i continually skip). I could read the whole book and enjoy the characters and the plot. I love the romance. I am all about leaving something to the imagination. I love this writer. I love this book and its story. Well done!!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and storyline so much. Ashlynn and Iain were great together. It was heartbreaking with the happenings at their home. And I’m so glad that the brute, his men and Fraser were killed. They were awful! On to the next book. 🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜
I got what I expected. :) A little surprise was that the couple in love actually talked about their feelings instead of coming to a realisation at the last page and swear undying love to each other.
