I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I also spent a year (5th grade) in Montgomery, Alabama, and a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan(8th grade). As a child, I always wanted to be a writer, but I had lots of other ambitions too. I wanted to be a teacher, a librarian, a movie star, the president of the United States, and a ballerina.

I didn't achieve all my goals. I never became a movie star, the president of the U.S., or a ballerina. But I've been a teacher and a librarian and most of all, a writer. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs and lots of letters. Writing wasn't easy for me, but it felt natural and right.

I've always read a lot, too. I was an English major at Emory University (I love Shakespeare), and I also received a master's degree in library science at Emory. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and I taught children's and teen literature at St. John's University in New York for over 20 years. Now, I'm a full-time writer, living in Paris, France - the most beautiful city in the world.

This was a YA paranormal story about a girl who could turn herself invisible.

Tracy was an okay character and it was clear that she tried to help people using her gift, even when they couldn’t see her to appreciate it.

The storyline in this was about Jenna being taken off to an institution because the principle didn’t like the fact that she might be able to read his mind, and Tracy trying to work out what was going on and how to rescue Jenna. We also had the threat of a spy, who everyone assumed was Amanda, and Tracy also used her invisibility to try and work out who the real spy was.

The ending to this was pretty good, and it will be interesting to see how things are wrapped up in the last book in the series.

Book #5 follows Tracey Devon, though really like Amanda she has featured in more than one of the books as a strong character due to her ability. Tracey Devon has the ability to fade into the background and disappear, it tends to happen when she has an overcome wave of emotions like the feeling of left behindness. Though, with the help of the Gifted Class , she is learning to control her acts of disappearances . When strange things start happening and soon the whole class find their gifts exposed and at risk, it seems that their might be a spy inside the classroom. Who can it be and what do they want as we read about Jenna being framed for a crime she didn't commit and when Amanda signs up as Office assistant - the fingers start pointing at her. Tracey , though believes that while Amanda can be a B***H she's not evil enough to betray her classmates or is she ? While the rest of Tracey's friends gang up on Amanda to see if she will crack whats she hiding , Tracey will use her ability to follow into the lives of her classmates and see if she can find out which one is betraying their secrets and why ?

This is the fifth book in the Gifted series and I have to say it was one of the most exciting ones so far.

In Now You See Me we follow around Tracey, who has the gift of invisibility, as she tries to find out who is the spy inside her gifted class. Because she is invisible it's easy for her to get inside people's houses so we learned a lot about the rest of the crew that we didn't so far.

Besides her story we once again go inside Jenna's mind. She can hear everyone's thoughts and because of that she is one of the most feared amongst the gifted by the people who want to exploit their powers. So Jenna is framed and trapped inside a school for troublemakers.

I loved how in this book most of the secrets were reviled. We got to find out who the spy is and had a bit of surprise there. And finally the gifted class seems to be getting along and everyone is working together. Can't wait to read the final book in the series.

A young girl that has been ignored by her family finds that she has an unusual gift for becoming invisible. By attending classes with other friends with the same, but different, gifts she finds herself able to fit in with a family of her own.

There are people out there that would love to get ahold of these teens and turn them into their puppets so that they could have them use their strange powerful gifts for all the wrong reasons and to also use for them to gain anything they want. In this book she disappears for the longest time she has ever in her life and is scared that she will never come back. While she remains invisiable she fights to find the truth behind those "bad" people that want to use her and her friends for their own reasons.

This is one of the best finds from the dollar store! As in, I'm really getting into the series when I can find it (which hasn't been often, or in sequence).

What I've deducted the star for:
- Quality is low: this copy is extremely bendy, I have to assume from being bound improperly i.e. not water damage.
- The exposition feels like it goes on for longer than normal for series books that assume readers miss at least some of the prior books—felt like at least three chapters, since it has to cover EVERY character's gift for the book to make sense. (I did forget most of them, since they tend to feature one power per book.)
- Identical septuplets? Really?? THAT is the most unbelievable thing in this book! What were you doing to get babies like that?
- These "fourteen-year-olds" sure look in their late teens...

Otherwise, a really gripping mini-X-Men, but the kids are able to mostly live normal lives. You know, other than the whole somebody spying on them and setting them up for failure . Usual superpower/paranormal drama.

This book was soo good, we finally got to learn about some of the other students. Carter unfortunately wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped. We finally got some more information about Martin and Charles tho. Think Charles could benefit from a visit to a psychiatrist and Martin could benefit from a visit from Amanda who could speak up for him to his Mum and Grandad. The actual storyline itself was interesting too. Learning that plans may go deeper than was previously thought. I can't wait to read the final book in the series. I hope it ties up any of the remaining loose ends.

Al fin algo de acción! Después del estancamiento de la historia esta empieza a ponerse interesante de nuevo, aunque la revelación del espía no resulta nada misteriosa, está cantada desde el libro pasado. Al menos el final motiva a leer el siguiente

I wasn’t able to get the 4th book from ILL, but luckily it explained enough in this one that I wasn’t too lost. I do want to know what happened between Amanda and Ken, though.

This was another fun book, and these kids are really growing on me.

Only one more book to go!

I really liked this one! The class went back and forth on who they think is involved with the group that’s trying to expose the kids.

One of the main things that I love about this series is that you don't have to read it in complete order e.g if you have somehow ended up getting the books not in order - it's alright as you can easily read each book and catch up on the series and what's happening with our favourite gifted children.

I found Book #5 more of a fast-paced and enjoyable plot with lots going on as some of the previous tales were a bit slow.
Another great installment in the Gifted Series by Marilyn Kaye.

So, I mainly like this book series because they are short and sweet, I can finish reading these in one day. The only problem, the books are very predictable, except this one wasn't.

I was surprised about:
(1) Jenna revealing her gift to the doctor, I really thought Tracey was going to be the one to get her out. It was also surprising that he believed her.
(2) Tracey suddenly appearing in front of the bad guys.
(3) Ken being upset about his relationship with Amanda, it didn't even seem like they ever had a relationship.
(4) Getting a chance to see all the kids' backgrounds.
(5) I really thought Carter wasn't human. I actually thought his power was to be able to "record" people and then "play" it back, like a tape recorder. I hadn't thought of Serena's power.
(6) Everyone there at the end, I just thought it would be Ken, Amanda, and Emily.

I already guessed:
(1) Carter was the spy, like in the first book.
(2) Amanda wasn't the spy.
(3) The knife being planted in Jenna's locker, saw it coming after Emily's vision and the back of the book.
(4) The parol officer trying to get drugs off of kids. Wake up Jenna!
(5) The usual happy ending that just leaves enough unanswered questions to make you want to pick up the next.

Overall, this book series is just for fun. Something for me to read in between novels and keep my mind busy. It also reminds me of X-men, and I've always been a fan of that kind of thing. I wish another character with powers would pop in, just to mix things up.

In the fifth book of the series we have met all the main characters, Jane Amanda, Tracy. Many things have happened to them Tracy got kicked out of her own body, Amanda was fighting for her right has queen bee of the school and Jane got her father back. But now of all places the gifted class is where there is spy. And this book is about them finding who this spy is and the surprise was the shock of who the spy was it was very unexpected. I recommend this book because it has drama and suspense and these kids are just that kids and i can relate to them.
Reporter: So Amanda before you found out who the spy was who was your first guess?
Amanda: As much as it pains me to say this, because i love him my first thought was Ken P!
Reporter: Jane what went through your mind when you first saw your father in the principal's office
Jane: Well at first i didn't know why he was in there and mostly because i didn't know he was my FATHER! But i put it together before they even said a word because as you know he stopped over at our house and we didn't let him in because mom wasn't there. but i felt ambushed because i couldn't leave and it was just a lot of memories and stuff coming back.
Reporter: Tracy When the principle "found" a knife in Jenna's locker what was the first thing you wanted to do when you were put on your own?
Tracy: I didn't want to be alone so i wanted to prove that it wasn't hers and that she got framed. But that didn't put me in the best place.

Now You See Me is book five in the Gifted series and it is also a stand alone title. This is the first book from the series that I read, but I was able to follow everything fine. There are a few mentions of events from previous books, but enough information is given that I could get the gist of what occurred. This series is based on a class of "gifted" students. These students are not necessarily intellectually gifted, but rather have something about them that makes each one unique and different in away that might make them stand out. In the class they are learning how to control their gifts and use them more at will. The gifts are things like mind reading, becoming invisible, taking over someone else's body. Someone is a trader and out to exploit them. They must find out who before all their lives are endangered. Jenna has already been sent to a juvie home where she is cut off from everyone. Who's the next one to disappear from class?

This was my least favourite book in the series so far, I didn't much like this character who seemed to be a bit stuck up. And the storyline was a little lost compared to the good storylines there has been in the previous books in the series.

The main character in this book was Tracey; this was the character is one that can turn invisible when she feels she is being neglected. Although she doesn't actually feature much in this book, the characters all seem to still be reeling from the events of the two previous books where bad stuff happened to them. Now they are all nervous and not wanting to embrace their gifts anymore.

The secondary characters are the same ones that were main characters in previous books so I've already talked about them.

The storyline was not as good as previous books with not much happening especially given how action packed the last book was. The pacing was good although slow because not much happened.

3 stars, not my favourite book in the series

An easy read with a satisfying and action-packed plot. I liked the characters and enjoyed the combination of supernatural powers and the ordinary coming-of-age challenges. All in all, a good tween/teen book.

I haven't read any of the other Gifted books, and I enjoyed this enough to do so. This one stood alone well - there were references to things that clearly happened in previous books, but not knowing all the background didn't prevent me from following the story.

(Note: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher at a American Library Association Annual Conference. I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Kingfisher!)

"Now You See Me" (Gifted 5) by Marylin Kaye focusses on Tracey Devon, who turns invisible to find why body-snatcher Amanda is working in the principal's office, principal Mr Jackson found knife in mind-reader Jenna's locker and expelled her to truant Harmony House, and who is spying for the conspiracy, by following angry-strong wimp Martin and zombie-quiet Carter. I'm glad I persisted, because the kids are more sensible and positively action oriented. I'd have snuck food p149 instead of starving, but otherwise they investigate creatively and respond reasonably, amid dangerous surprises.

Really good book. Like every book i read from this series, this book was better than all of them. The plot twist were more my style and they were exciting. I liked how all the pieces piece together nicely all though there is one more book left in the series. Again the author writing this series had a younger demographic in mind but i quite enjoyed it. All though i would like to see more focus on other characters like Martin, Charles and Sarah since they have been a bit neglected through the books. All and all i would recommend this series so far, and i expect a grand finale and hope i wont get disappointed.

REQUIRED AUTHOR FOR PRESENTATION

Traci learns that she can become invisible. After her parents had quintuplets she finds herself becoming invisible to then and this triggers her gift. The gifted class has found out that their is a spy among them and Traci follows possible suspects while invisible to see if there is anything suspicious in their behavior. There is a shocking discovery at the end of the book.

I thought it was an enjoyable read and didn't find it hard to pick up the book and get lost in it's pages. Great teen voice. Easy and fun read for lower to middle grade.

I just love this fun Tween/Teen series. It is fast and fun to read. In this book Tracey uses her gift of invisibility to try to discover the traitor in their midst and clear Jenna of the charges that have put her in a juvenile detention center. This series is good for boys and girls and might tempt some reluctant readers.

i like that the gifted classmates understand how important it is to work together and not aginst each other.and carter going to the hospital for messed up teens was a good idea.maybe they can get him to talk and he could be normal.well not normal because he might have some type of gift like the other students.

This series keeps on getting better. Now You See Me was full of action and emotion.

I don't like this... it didn't captivate me like the other books I've read. I picked this up a while back when I loved ANTM, and the cover reminded me of Allison Harvard, so I felt like I have to read this. Turns out, after a long time I haven't read this, I didn't quite feel the vibe of the story. I understand how it goes, but still... it wasn't happening for me.
