About the author

A former actor, theatre-director and drama teacher, Deary says he began writing when he was 29. Most famously, he is one of the authors of the Horrible Histories series of books popular among children for their disgusting details, gory information and humorous pictures and among adults for getting children interested in history. Books in the series have been widely translated into other languages and imitated.

A cartoon series has been made of the series of books and was shown on CiTV for a period in 2002.

The first series of a live-action comedy sketch show of the same name was shown on CBBC in 2009 and a second series is due.

Terry is also known widely throughout children and adult reading groups alike for his True Stories series (see below for series list).

He received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Sunderland in 2000. His numerous accolades also include the Blue Peter "Best Nonfiction Author of the Century" Award in the U.K.

Very fun book, this. No reason it shouldn't be, really.

This book was about the Aztecs and there way of life. The Aztecs were nearly impossible to beat, they conquered neighboring tribes and were the top of there tribes. The Aztecs had many different ways then most of those early tribes like them. Such as being sacrificed because they thought that there gods needed human beating hearts or playing games so you could die. They had a huge hoard of gold which attracted Hernan Cortes the Spanish leader. He came to attack the Aztecs and steal there hoard of gold. He failed two times, then he had a plan to make friends with tribes that did not like the Aztecs he took over the Aztecs and stole there gold.

I gave this book a 4 star because it was good and interesting. I liked that it had lots of interesting facts. I do wish that it was in order more. I recommend this book to anyone who likes history. I also recommended this book to people who like gross things. Overall this book was really good and gross.

Like nearly all Horrible Histories books, this was a good one. It includes incredibly gruesome and engrossing historical facts which are just lovely to read, but nothing much (if anything at all) in the way of other possibly objectionable content.

This is my first Horrible History book series I had.
I think this book is awesome - it tells a lot about world history (in this book : about Aztec) but you won't get bored, because the author (and illustrator) described it in a very cool way (unlike most history teacher).
I always love history, but I never thought history could be sooo much fun like told in this book!
I wish I had this kind of history books when I was a kid XD
I have to find another Horrible History series :)

Horrible Histories is a series of illustrated books published in the UK by Scholastic. They are designed to get children interested in history by concentrating on the trivial, unusual, gory, or unpleasant. They are exceptionally well loved by my history loving children
