Orsini Brothers #3

Falco: The Dark Guardian

Rate this book
Duty--or desire? Revered businessman Falco Orsini has left life in the Special Forces behind--though he uses his powerful skills occasionally, when duty calls. But duty is always on Falco-s terms! When his estranged father asks him to protect a young model who is being stalked, he begrudgingly agrees--only because of the vulnerability he can see in her eyes. Elle Bissette won't be a victim--she can take care of herself! And surely big, dark, devilish Falco is dangerous? Because one kiss from a man like him will leave her breathless.

I've been a writer, one way or another, all my life. Before I could read, I made up poems and my mom wrote them down for me. In elementary school, my teachers almost always let me write poems or stories instead of requiring me to do art projects. Always, I dreamed of becoming a published writer...and that dream came true! I write novels about sexy, powerful men and independent-minded women, and what happens when they find each other and fall in love. My books are sexy and romantic, and they've very often full of romantic suspense. I write the kinds of books I love to read, and I hope that makes my readers happy.

Then next Orsini brother to go on yet another mission for his crafty Mafioso father and it has Falco, the ex-Special Forces fighter, who is naturally handsome, tough and totally in control of his emotions (just like all his brothers) flying off to Hollywood. And his task? To protect Elle Bissette (love the name), a beautiful actress being stalked by a vicious “stalker”!!!

I know….I’m so totally aware that this series follows a kind of formula…hard-assed gorgeous man doesn’t do love and relationships, meets gorgeous woman, he does he doesn’t want her….but in the end…love wins…….okay I get that!! But you know what….despite all that..I cannot help myself….i love losing myself into the stories with a smile on my face….and yes…I get that here.

So what if the story seems a bit unreal…who cares!!! I mean, this Elle is being viciously stalked and she still drives to some deserted shack she owns in some deserted and isolated mountain!!! What, are you crazy??? Never mind, the hero saves the day.
He takes her to beautiful Hawaii…amazing how easy it seems to just get on a plane and jet off anywhere in the world!!!!

I did become a bit irritated with these two characters….Elle’s behavior was..like…why don’t you just tell Falco what you know…what could be so bad that he could not handle it…and believe me, he handles it pretty well, just like I did.

Whilst I felt for what she experienced in her childhood and teens…which was totally horrific….and admired the way she rebuilt her life…I just wanted her to come “clean” with her secret so that Falco could sort out the evil villain.

Anyway, everything works out very well for both of them. Thank heavens.

I enjoy reading this series – one of the things I particularly like is the whole family saga that is told over the various books.
And my favorite scene between Falco and Elle:

He took a long look around before he opened the car door.
“Stay,” he commanded.
Elle smiled sweetly. “Woof woof.”
He couldn't help it. He laughed.
“Good girl,” he said, and laughed again when she bared her teeth.

Onto to Nicolo’s story next……….you see Cesare Orsini has been rubbing his hands together and plotting the next brother’s “mission”……….can’t wait!!!

Someone's family trip to the movies was dramatically cancelled so that someone is not in the mood to write a decent review, not that that someone writes decent reviews.

Anyway, so Mafioso daddy had a mission for Falco (the brother with the darkest soul): protect the model turned actress from a stalker that's becoming creepier with every message he delivers.

I was expecting a more silent, closed and lethal H but I guess having to put up with his reluctant "mission" made him very bossy and talkative.
The h suffered too much horrors so I can't blame her for the way she tried to manage things, not that I agreed.

Also, did she finish the movie?

I really liked it but still my favorite is the first book of the series.

A fight 'n' kiss book... they fight and kiss and fight again. Amazing how often two characters can completely unexpectedly find themselves kissing each other -- and still be surprised by it every time.

Once they actually get around to having sex, the story gets less repetitive and more interesting. There's a bit of a suspense element, and be warned that it gets unusually dark for a Harlequin Presents, though not graphic.

Very dark story. Heroine had been raped or almost raped by her step father I am not sure but poor girl was a survivor. Hero was sex on legs and their chemistry was kind of hot. I liked it!

In the last book only, the epilogue showed Falco and Niccolo being summoned by their father to carry out his wishes.

Falco Orsini is a fit and fine thirty-two-year-old. I wonder what ages were Rafe and Dante then. Hee Hee! Cesare asks a favour from his son, to guard the actress Elle Bissette from the threats she received. It is due to his days working in the Special Forces that Cesare singled him out for this job. Falco's skill sets which he still puts to use sometimes.

Elle, who is shooting for a movie, can't seem to get her lines right, because she's remembering the creepy calls she's been receiving. Her director, Antonio Farinelli, sought help from Cesare for the same, since she wasn't ready to get help from the police in fear of her past tumbling out. Should that happen, all of twenty-seven, she was not the right age to be going back to modelling.

Okay! So Falco is the stud, the neighbourhood bad boy who also served in the Special Forces in his heydays. Elle is distrustful of men, every kind of man, and she thinks they all have their own agendas. Their first meeting was interesting, the second one - intriguing. This almost read like romantic suspense. Ah! What a sassy lady! She doesn't give a damn about his kisses, reprimands him for calling her baby, and doesn't let him run over her with his decisions. She holds her own with aplomb.

But there's something in her past, something's that's not so good. That she's afraid of Falco knowing, that's made her afraid of men. And when she revealed the truth, my heart ached for that girl. What Elle had to suffer.

They spent some days in blissful oblivion but then Falco started growing distant. I'd love this one to be made into a movie just to see the early morning beach workouts or the fight sequence. Yep, there is a brief one in there. And justice has been served in this book. Proper justice.

In the end, Nicolo and Cesare are going to have the talk. Nick, the slippery one, slipped right out of the meeting last time.

The idea was better than the execution. He was a retired spec ops soldier but I didn't really see it. I guess it wasn't realistic enough? She had been raped by her step father and had issues with not wanting anything to do with guys and that was realistic but she did seem a little whinny rather than suffering. Anyway end result it was just too "suspense/spec ops lite" and too rushed for the story to be told.

This is probably the best book of the Orsini series to date. Sadly, there's nothing much to rave about it because it follows the same pattern as all the other books by Sandra Marton. If you have read any of her stuff, you'd pretty much know what to expect, from start to finish. There's nothing new about it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing ;)

Over all, this was pretty good, but not as good as the first two. For me, the chemistry just wasn't there between Falco & Elle, but what saved the story for me was the secret that Elle carried. I have to say that I *did* guess most of it to start with, but the way it was handled in the story was good. However, That said, I really liked the solution!

I don't know what happened here. But this one just didn't grab me. Elle blew hot and cold constantly, and I just didn't know whether she was refusing the help and everything because she was scared, or because her emotions veered so wildly. Nevertheless, it just annoyed me no end.

Falco was no better: constantly reminding himself to remain professional, and then kissing her senseless. And then bossing her around. Instead of consulting her.

In any case, I didn't like this one as much. :(

The plot didn't develop quite as much as I hoped. What is the deal with Falco swooping in and kissing what's-her-name all the time?

ADORO!!!

I enjoyed this story. The 'I'm about to tell you my secret but then again...' aspect of the story drove me nuts! Just spit it out woman, for God's sake! It was also a little improbable that Falco would have so much access to her life so quickly. But it is a romance novel and, as we know, things like that happen in romance fantasy world!

I loved the scenes in Hawaii. All in all, a fun read.

nice book and characters. i gave 3 star only because i hate matchmaking in books. his (hero's) father doesn't talk or see him or his brothers for a very long time, he doesn't know them also the father doesn't even see/meet heroine. but he knows right away that they are meant to be together. w*f???!!!

Burdaki babada aynı Balfour serisindeki Oscar Balfour'a benziyor. Oscar kızlarını evlendirmek için görevler veriyordu, burda da Cesare Orsini oğullarına görevler veriyor. Bu babalar kesinlikle çıldırmış. Pis, kurnaz ihtiyarlar :D
