Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Dr. Watson shares four of Sherlock Holmes adventures. A Case of Identity, The Adventure of the Crooked Man, The Naval Treaty, and The Greek Interpreter show us Mr. Holmes powers of observation and deduction. These are more fascinating accounts of Sherlock's problem solving adventures.

I love Sherlock Holmes in all forms. I particularly enjoy the audio performance, as this was originally done. The one thing I could not stand is that ear-stabbing violin at the beginning and end of each chapter. Oh heavens. It is a seriously annoying sound that makes me do quick fast-forward. What redeeming values does this aweful sound have? Loved the rest.

While still a great collection of short stories, this was the first of the 4 that I immediately knew the answer to two of the cases before they were explained. Since the other collections surprised me more, I will rate this one lower.

A good and varied selection of stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. As time goes on it is really nice to see the growth in not only the Holmes & Watson relationship, but also learn more about these characters from the added snippets that Conan Doyle adds to the start of the stories.

„Aventurile lui Sherlock Holmes” de Sir Artur Conan Doyle

5/5 ⭐

Didn't realize this had music to go along with it which defeated the purpose of using it as my fall asleep audiobook, but that's on me.

Although watching BBC's Sherlock first before reading the books (which is a big mistake, ALWAYS read the book before you watch a series or movie), but I was delighted to find that the styles of the series and the book was distinguished very early on as I was still able to enjoy the story peacefully on my porch.
