A girl must reconnect with her outlaw roots in the second book of this gritty female thriller trilogy

Haunted by his violent death, she vows to live a respectable life—until the day her mom, who abandoned her when she was young and who she barely remembers, barges back into her life unexpectedly. It doesn't take Daisy long to realize that her mom is the queenpin of a prostitution ring with links to high society and the head of one of London's most feared underworld families—the Kings. Soon she is drawn into their next criminal act—a bank job. Soon she is running for her life and the only person she can trust is up-and-coming gangland bad boy, Ricky Smart. Loved this 2nd book.

I thought that this 2nd book in this series was great. It's not as good as the 1st book. But still, it was hard to put down. The story was still on my mind, long after I had finished reading it,for the day or night... I love this author she makes me feel that I am actually in he book.... I love reading about Gangland London,Manchester, and Liverpool. I'm going to start the 3rd book in this series as soon as I have finished writing this review. I can't wait to see what the next chapters bring for Daisy & her mum Jackie & her aunts, and everyone else. I hope that there are more books to follow on in this series. There are a lot of likeable characters,a few that are not. 9/10. Now onto the 3rd book.

Really not sure how this book has got 4 stars. There are so many grammatical errors. One I actually took a picture of, "She should go to the office, but she knew if she didn't go and see Jackie now she was in for a mouthful THE NEXT THE TIME she saw her". This is just one of about five that I noticed. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's reading with errors like this.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but surely it has been proof read before being published?

It's a good plot and it makes you keep reading despite the errors.

9.9/10. Considering this book is quite old, and I have picked it up in 2024 ( was In a stray pile in uni). The story is still written well ! The plot twists were insane and didn’t stop till the very end and the story was still quite modern & i seriously could not put this book down. I want it to be a film so bad. It would’ve been a 10 but sometimes the sentence structure was a bit off, so sometimes it wouldn’t make sense but overall so so good !! V intense !! Add it to your booklists now !!!!!

Audio version of this book- storyline made up for the very poor narration! If the story had not been so gripping would probably have given up.

I have a large list of authors that I repeatedly pre-order books for and at least 70% of them I have read every one of their books. However, I enjoy adding new authors to that list and Dreda has just shot straight to the top of it.
Nearly all of my books are brought through Amazon and every time I pre-ordered a book by Mandasue Heller, Martina Cole or June Hampson this authors name kept popping up. What caught my attention was the reviewer rating for each of her 4 books. 2 of them had the maximum 5 star rating and the other 2 were a 4 star and 4.5 star. I decided to take a chance, ordered her latest release and hoped I wouldn't regret it.

TAs I opened the book and started to read I was transported back to the time when I read `The Ladykillers' by Martina Cole. The reason I say this is that when I read that first Martina book she had a raw energy which hooked you as a reader (it's just a shame it doesn't still happen with MC). There was the same feel with this book and I just knew I was onto a winner. Dreda Say Mitchell has a knack with her writing style which conveys an authentic feel to the story and characters. It took me no more than 3 chapters to be totally absorbed.

Daisy Sullivan is a brilliant character who I adored from the very beginning. Yes she is a gangster's daughter but this element of her was not overdone and the storyline that drags her past into the present is totally perfect. There is nothing about it that felt over the top and she was the perfect mix of bad girl turned out good. The other characters which appear are also written with equal skill. Ricky Smart is the opposite of Daisy but as soon as he comes into the story you can't help but want him to be the perfect match for her. The pace itself was quick from the outset with events spiralling the further into the story you get. I love a book that makes me want to read quicker to find out what happened and this book did exactly that.Lastly, I have to say that any author who can have as many plot twists as Dreda did is the best you can get. There are some major twists in this story which I didn't see coming at all and the author manages to reveal them in the last 4 chapters.

A soon as I finished this book I was determined to get her other three books and stick them in my to-read pile. This is possibly the best new crime author I have found this year. She is now a permanent fixture on my author pre-order list and I can't wait to get cracking on her other work. Dreda Say Mitchell is a rising star in my opinion. The likes of Martina Cole need to be fearful, because once this lady gets a following (if she keeps on writing like this) she will be a serious threat to all those who take their fans for granted. If you like authors such as Mandasue Heller, Martina Cole and Jessie Keane then do yourself a favour and pick up this book; I promise you won't regret it.

First time I have read this authors books usually I am a Martina Cole reader.
This was a great book full of the usual twists and turns I really liked "Daisy" the heroine of the book she was a reluctant member of a gangster family and didn't even know the full extent of her connections. The ex con Ricky is another high profile character but where did he come from and what happened to his sister Jenna?. The exploits of the families and the intricate workings of such were very enjoyable. There were twists and shocks that you couldn'd see coming. The ending was very explanitory so you have to read until the end to get the whole picture. This book kept my imagination going a thoroughly good read.

Nice is a good thrilling read. The reveals actually work and make sense in the context of the story.

Young lawyer Daisy suffers the loss of her mentor and then the trouble really starts.

At first glance, a novel about a good girl from a bad family, the book is really about what makes a family and how people interact with each other as well as the hold that family has on us all.

One of the best crime books I've read in a long time! Characters are brilliant, superb plot and I had to pace myself reading it while away or I'd be left with nothing to read. I bought this from my local charity shop as a new author and I now intend to read another. Highly recommend

I read this on cd. I preferred the first half of the book when Daisy was working in a Lawyers office. As the book progressed it became more and more unbelievable. Having said that, I still kept going as I wanted to hear what happened. I'm not sure if I'll read another by Dreda Say Mitchell.

This is a great follow up.
It includes new characters and a completely new plot but fear not the original characters are there.
It's a good concept however it's a small bit dramatic and drawn at times but the characters and their differences carry the story through

Not bad. A little silly, but a nice tale of the London criminal set. I'll give the second book a try.
