This 768-page book - the new-format printed edition of May 2020 - is a colourful and informative guide to the North American country of the United States of America, for real visitors and armchair travellers alike. It has all the usual features, including excellent maps and illustrations, with excellent colour photos breaking up the text columns, so you know what you are looking for. It is a handy up-to-date guidebook, ideal for guiding and planning a family holiday.
However, it does cover a lot of territory, so if you are only visiting one or two cities or states, you might be better advised to find a guide that concentrates just on the places you are interested in, or at least use this volume to choose those places.
I'm planning a road trip/move and my mom got me a bunch of books from the library - this was one of two that I found helpful and fun. It's organized by area/map (and then by state) instead of alphabetically which was great since I am mostly interested in a route from DC down to Georgia. The guide concisely recommended cities, restaurants, routes, historical landmarks and more. Photos and fun facts fleshed out the sections. The maps in each section are very small. I'm not sure I would find a lot of value in owning a copy, but it was great for getting a quick overview of each chunk of the US.
There is really no way to praise this travel guide properly. I suggest before traveling to any city with tourist intentions, pick up a copy of the eyewitness travel guide for that city, with page markers handy. You can't go wrong.
This one covers far more than one city, and so per necessity does not go into as much detail about each city. I opted for this one for a trip covering 4 major US cities, and it still served me well.
I love Eyewitness travel books. This is a bit too broad of a guide for my needs, however, as obviously it covers the whole USA and I only need Phoenix and a possible side to Sedona & Grand Canyon. Pages 511-523 cover Arizona, Grand Caynon, and Monument Valley. It hits highlights attractions, restaurants and places to stay. This is a great travel guide for every state, and includes lots of pictures.
Really great, diverse photos, helpful maps, detailed top attractions & lists of many cities in all 50 states! They organize every state into helpful regional sections and layout clear routes & road stops to take on the way. I read an older version many yrs ago, but this one really takes the crown in making an All-American trip!
How can be much provided with a regular format and volume book of a vast land accomplishing multitude of events daily?
A very good approach to briefly emphasizing the most significant sightseeing and features of history, cultural life, daily business of the significant country.
" Vận mệnh hiển nhiên" , Nước Mỹ được ưu đãi vị trí địa lý giáp 2 bờ đại dương, cảnh quan thiên nhiên vô cùng phong phú đa dạng, nền văn hóa đa dân tộc giàu bản sắc. Cẩm nang du lịch đầy ắp thông tin, cách thức nhanh nhất để hiểu về nước Mỹ.
Didn't really read it from front to back, but have been checking it regularly to get a first feel for cities and regions. It's good enough for that, even if it otherwise feels a bit obsolete in times of the internet.
I think this is a decent book for getting a good taste of what the USA is like for traveler. for first timer, its a good place to start. its good for New York City trips, and a lot of other spots. its a great book for heavy traveler, not for those who are traveling the USA for a week... its best for cross country trips. you get plenty of good advice's and tips for the big cities as well as the small country towns. its a great book for my own traveling collection books.
Pretty incredible in terms of detail for such an general topic. Needs an update (like the Disneyland/world pages), but still super relevant. Would be great on a road trip where you don't know where you're going next.
While the history of each area seemed relatively unbiased, the descriptions of certain sites were problematic - e.g. minimal mention of slavery while describing an ornate mansion at a plantation.
You can't cover a country as big as the US in one book but this is a good starting point to flip through and think, where should I go. I use this and my collection of National Geographic Adventure magazines when I am thinking about a trip.
DK's guides tend to weigh more than the others because they put such lovely, glossy pictures in to help inspire you to visit the places. I particularly like the USA one as it has a great snapshot of all the main attractions to visit in each state. The layout is very user-friendly.
DK Eyewitness Travel Guides are THE best travel guides! Perfect, portable size, beautiful picts, and awesome info. THIS is the ultimate travel guide for this area.
Buena guía dividida en estados/regiones. Tiene mapas por zonas de las principales ciudades es muy visual y práctica. A mi me ayudo mucho a preparar mi viaje y una vez allí a no perderme nada.
