A charming tale about a young boy and his special relationship with his best friend, his dog named Lucky, demonstrates opposites such as slow and fast, dry and wet, cold and warm, and here and there.
Milgrim, David. My Friend Lucky, PICTURE BOOK. Simon Spotlight, 2002. $3.99.
This is an easy reader book about the give and take of a little boy and his dog. Opposites are highlighted in all the things that the dog, Lucky, does. This has very simple text and scribble-type illustrations. It’s a good topic for an early reader book, which can sometimes get monotonous, but it’s not anything spectacular.
I would snap this book up in a heartbeat if I were still in the library. It is a delightful book about a boy and his dog. Each page has two words on it starting with Lucky. Each two page spread presents opposites. This makes it perfect for emerging readers who can engage with the text meaningfully. The humour and love in the pages will make it a favourite so they will happily reread it!
Lucky is a dog who is here and there, dry then wet, and a whole bunch of other fun opposites.
The text in this is super simple, just two words on each page. The antonyms are often done in fun ways (my favorite was the Lucky's hungry, Lucky's full, spread as Lucky helps himself to cake). A cute little book for dog lovers and kids learning their opposites.
A simple book for early readers. I enjoy when the dog gets the cake off the table. There are lots of opposites in this book. The illustrations are simple but pleasant. It's also funny to see Lucky get chased by a herd of rabbits.
Ages 3 and up. Simple story about opposites. The words are well surrounded by white space and are in the same place on each page which help toddlers see the words that are being read more easily (print awareness).
