This has been a year of family turmoil--and it's only June! Life hasn't been the same since I learned my long-presumed-dead mother is actually alive, and then my father was arrested for murder. I'm so thankful that Reverend Gregory Brown is here. My caring confidant is haunted by something from his own past, but Greg has put that aside to help me find my mother. I just pray we find her before it's too late!
Honestly this book would be a 4 star if I didn't read 5 other books in this series before this that were so amazingly great so this paled in comparison. A little disappointed it was wrapped up so quickly and to me, I still have questions!! The person I suspected was the murderer so no surprise there. Overall, a great series! This last book just wrapped up too quickly & the suspense didn't even start until middle to end of this one.
I enjoyed this book but it was not as surprising as the previous in the series. It didn't have the suspense and Miranda seemed to overcome her years of panic attacks with little effort.
Miranda is the oldest of the Blanchard sisters and was the most impacted when their mother disappeared. She is also the one most affected by finding out that their mother is probably still alive. Miranda has suffered from agoraphobia for many years along with frequent panic attacks. She hardly ever leaves the house anymore. Aunt Winnie sort of tricks Miranda into going to a wedding with her for the sole purpose of introducing Miranda to the new pastor of the church.
Under tremendous strain from all the turmoil that has found her family, Miranda Blanchard’s panic attacks have worsened. It scares her when she thinks she hears her mother singing, when she knows it’s impossible. Her fear is that she’s losing her mind like they said her mother had. So she digs deep for the courage to return to the mental health support group sponsored by her Church. Leading the group is the new pastor, Reverend Greg Brown; they’d met the week before at a wedding. Greg wonders about the haunting and lovely Miranda. And as they begin to get to know each other, Miranda leans on Greg and draws on his strength. The tension in Blanchard Manor reaches its peak, with more clues that Miranda’s mother is truly alive and with increased threats on the family. And as the mysteries become answered, Greg is left wondering if Miranda will still need him.
This was a perfect ending to the mysteries of the Blanchard family, tying up all the loose ends from the previous books. This one too was a perfect balance of the two plot lines; the series plot of the mystery of Trudy and the growing relationship between Greg and Miranda. I enjoyed watching Miranda find her inner strength through Greg’s support. The two complete each other nicely. It’s almost a shame to say goodbye to this family; the Blanchards have been a dynamic group. I’m satisfied with the resolution of the ongoing mystery and I’m very pleased with Miranda and Greg’s HEA. The epilogue was a lovely way to show how all the romances had turned out
i was a little disappointed that this book waited til at least halfway thru before it FINALLY started tieing up loose ends, and solving all the puzzles. partially because that meant there was not enough details on all those tie-ups. ESPECIALLY since ANOTHER angle to all the mysteries was tossed into the mix in this book first! BUT ...
i admit, i was also anticipating a bit of a disappointment. i knew that w/ all the mysteries that had been brought up in books 1-5, it was going to be hard to wrap it all up in "just" 1 more book.
hence me still giving the book 5 stars when i might otherwise have given it only 4
oh, yeah, i'm also a bit disappointed that there wasn't more detail on one of the semi-main characters, Winnie. it's most likely because of her age. the authors probably figured no one would be interested in a romance of a 60 year old woman. WRONG!!!
i think that there are MANY women out there, her age, younger, AND older, who'd like to know that there could still be plenty of romance, and 2nd chances, etc., no matter what our age.
in the whole mystery angle, tho, she wasn't as main a character as the 6 other women, so ...
another reason why the book, despite that disappointment also, still rated a 5 versus 4 stars.
It's been a while since I've read the conclusion of the Secrets of Stoneley 6-book series. Although I did enjoy some of the other books in the series more, I did love the way Lynn Bulock finished it off with an epilogue that appreciated all the different characters that we've grown to love from each of their own stories in finding love and unravelling pieces of the mystery surrounding their long-lost mother.
I did, however, found the romance lacking. I had hoped for some more scenes between Miranda and Greg. I loved the way he helped her with her panic attacks and was a steady presence when things got really out of hand. It just wasn't as...well, romantic as I had hoped for.
The mystery was well-written. I thoroughly appreciated how 6 ladies had to get together to discuss the intricate details of what to reveal for each book, and the culprit at hand for the crazy things that stirred the Blanchard family in the last several months was rather surprising (at least, the first time around that I read this book).
Overall, it was a nice ending, and still memorable even after years since I've touched this book last.
There is always a happiness and sadness when finishing a series. It is good to see how everything comes together but also you are leaving people and places that you get to know in previous books.
In this final book we finally see the oldest sister, Miranda, have a happy ending. She has taken on the fear of leaving her home and when her panic attacks get so bad she is hearing things, she goes back to her group at church for help.
Pastor Gregory Brown met Miranda at a wedding and can't get her out of his thoughts. When he goes into the support group he started leading he can't believe she is there.
Through the family issues such as grandfather Howard and other crisis areas, Greg and Miranda spend more and more time together.
This books ties together who the murderer is, what happened to their Mother Trudy, and of course how the relationship ends up for Miranda and Greg.
This was a good book and a good end to the series. Some really chilling moments. The ending was very satisfying and all the loose ends were tied up so you weren't left wondering about anything.
