Thanks to a presidential pardon, the Sisterhood can put their fugitive days behind them and resume their lives in peace. Still, all the women admit that lately things are a little too calm and peaceful. Meeting up for the first time in months to celebrate Kathryn's birthday--in the City of Sin, no less--seems like the perfect antidote.
But before they can kick up their heels something too big to pass up is dropped into their laps. The time has come to deal with Enemy #1, a/k/a Hank Jellicoe. Wanted by the FBI, the CIA, and Homeland Security for starters, President Connor herself has run out of patience with their lack of results. Only the Sisterhood, with their special blend of guts, imagination, and friends in all places are capable of pulling off the impossible--of hunting down this monster and taking him out once and for all. . .
Praise for Fern Michaels and her Sisterhood novels. . .
"Revenge is a dish best served with cloth napkins and floral centerpieces. . .fast-paced. . .puts poetic justice first."--Publishers Weekly on Payback
"Delectable. . .deliver[s] revenge that's creatively swift and sweet, Michaels-style."
Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.
As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.
Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.
Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it. I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.
Modern day Charlie's Angels. Instead of three angels this one consist of a vigilante group of 7 women and their significant other. They are a well blended tool that works together and sometimes overlooking the importance of their significant others, making them feel unimportant.
This story was built upon Hank Jellico; they captured one time before but he was able to get away and now he's trying to exact revenge. You can never underestimate the mind of a women especially not a group of women. The plot was well set and the reasoning for their determination of catching Jellico consisted of 7 different reasons.
It's funny, the planning is well thought out, the storyline isn't bizarre and the author can draw the reader in and out; as if playing a guitar. Good story.
Warning! If you are the kind of reader who has difficulty keeping track of numerous characters at once, this is not the book for you. If the sisters’ group wasn’t big enough to scare off a cackling brew of witches, then there is still the gang of guys who try aiding the women in an attempt to earn the ladies’ love.
I realize the books are centered around the sisters, but I could not help falling for the guys even more. Jabbing, yet supporting each other while they all work to keep their love’s interest kept a smile on my face resembling a hanger stuck in my mouth.
It is fun watching these gals kick some you-know-what during their escapades. Each lady is unique in her own way – Maggie and Annie with their connections, Yoko with her skilled hands, etc. – not only are they cunning, but their mischievous ways of wrangling out information and working outside of the law is as invigorating as a straight shot of espresso – the same thrill received by watching Charlie’s Angels use their crafty knowledge and mastery of martial arts to take care of business (i.e. beat up bad guys with the tips of their pumps’ heels).
Although all of the characters have their own quirks and fun personalities – Annie and Jack tickled my funny bone raw – it is often hard keeping track of everybody. A reader may be able to piece the plot and characters together, but it would be extremely difficult if you have not read the first books in the series. Yes, we get to see how relationships unfold, but there are too many sub-plots with unanswered questions to just assume that reading “Déjà vu” all on its own will be sufficient. It won’t.
Read the before and after books. And no, that is not a spoiler because the next book in the series has already been released. Good thing too. If “Home Free” did not come out so quickly, I would have hated to wait months on end for… well I can’t tell you what exactly, but just know that there are some questions that still need to be answered. To all the sisters’ series’ followers, who didn’t see that one coming?
When I picked up this abridged audiobook, I didn't realize that it was #19 in a series. It was quite a job to keep up with 7 different main characters and their various husbands, fiancés, and significant others. Once that was sorted out and I also got familiar with assorted Good Guys and Bad Guys, it was a fun ride through the fast-paced dénouement. I especially liked the duct tape element.

This book took me back to the first books in the Sisterhood Series, which I enjoyed greatly. The last few books in the series left me disappointed, but this book makes up for it. The previous storyline of the vigilantes ends with this story and the new preparation for the group of women to continue righting wrongs is started. the book is fresh and has these 'coincidences' that only this group of women can put together. In this book, they finally come together with the men in their lives and, after dismissing them, come to recognize their importance and make them an important part of the operation.
I can't wait for 'Home Free' to come out in April.
Ok first.....guess I was at the bus depot waiting for a train!!! Did not realize this was #19...so now I hafta go find the others....but just the same....gotta tell ya-I liked this one! If all the others before are close to this one here, I will be pleased...at first, had to stop and like blink there was so much to absorb and keep straight, but once it all fell into manageable place, it all made sense...so! I guess I'll be going to get the others...--P/
I really used to like this series, but maybe it's just getting old - I'm just not as into the Vigilantes escapades anymore! Altho in this one the plot does play around with the men reacting to the ladies' demands...
It is Kathryn's birthday and Annie is determined to give her the best birthday ever. She and Myra headed for Las Vegas to plan the party. First, Annie cleared out reservations at the Babylon casino and hotel and closed the casino for an entire weekend. After all, it was hers to do as she wished. The guest list was long and everyone was invited for the weekend. She had a plan to have Kathryn deliver some building materials to get her to the casino when she needed her there. She had everything planned and ordered with just a few phone calls. The Sisters gathered for a talk and were still concerned over the location of Henry Jellicoe. He had been captured by them; but escaped from Snowden's men while on the way to be punished for his actions. The Sisters were furious. How could Snowden have dropped the ball? It was unthinkable. However, they decided not to take on the task of finding him; but rather figured he would come to them when he was ready for revenge. They would be ready for him. Strange things were happening. Fergus Duffy, A Scottish man Annie met while negotiating the job to find Jellicoe, called and asked her to dinner. He would be in town for a high powered secret meeting with the CIA and others at Langley and wanted to see her. Annie accepted; but she was suspicious. Why her and why now? What was this secret meeting about? Then, at Kathryn's birthday, President Martine Connor passes through the party and hints at something is coming down and she might call on the girls. What is going on?
Nineteenth in the Sisterhood romance-suspense series about seven former fugitives and their friends and lovers.
My Take I suspect Michaels is feeling the need to shake things up with the breakups she has engineered in this installment. Even Elias is wondering if he's letting Nellie down. I must say it's about time she had the boys rebel against the women's autocracy! Unsurprisingly, the ladies are absolutely clueless as to why the boys don't like being treated like idiots who will come when called. Sure, it's always fun to get some role reversal, but this is just obnoxious.
The ladies are being practical this time around. Instead of disappearing to the ends of the Earth and never speaking to each other, they have scheduled regular Sunday dinners where they all get together.
I still find it so tedious to read everyone's conversations. Hasn't Michaels ever been told that adults don't have to act like children?? I feel like I'm reading about middle schoolers. The whole high school reaction toward Annie's "date" with Fergus was just embarassing. Do adult women really act like that?? Or that she could simply write thoughts instead of having everything be a conversation. And, please, get 'em off whatever speed you have on them.
Bert and Jack are unsure as to what their next career path will be as they dither about taking over Lizzie's old offices or taking up their old positions what with the FBI making noises about Bert coming back and Jack's old boss hoping he will return.
Would someone please explain to me why the Washington Post would suddenly start running front page articles about the Red Hat club?? Sure, they want to stir up lots of interest and get a large crowd to smoke out Jellicoe but surely it would seem rather suspicious to a man supposedly as astute as Jellicoe that a newspaper he already suspects of being part of the Sisterhood that suddenly starts running articles about something that really belongs in a Lifestyle or Human Interest section is suddenly on the front page AND there just happens to be a Red Hat event in his neighborhood?
Oh yeah, it makes sense to me. The FBI, a DA, two reporters, and some guy are all gonna show up in some old lady's neighborhood and question the postman about the same issue.
Why would the president go through all the hassle of showing up at Kathryn's birthday party in Las Vegas just to say "Happy Birthday"? Why not stay at least for a piece of cake?!?
The Story It's having too much time on her hands that inspires President Martine Connor with her breakthrough idea for catching Hank Jellicoe. An idea that filters back to the Sisterhood through Elias after the President requests his attendance at the pivotal meeting between the FBI, the CIA, and Homeland Security.
In between plotting the downfall of Hank Jellicoe — I'm not sure if they're intending to show up the agencies or simply ensure Jellicoe going away behind bars, the ladies are plotting to celebrate Kathryn's birthday while steering Bert onto the right way of handling his lady of the road.
Part of the ladies' plot to cancel Jellicoe's free ride is the research into his background and several more important, unknown facts arise: a brilliant young reporter who suddenly disappears from the scene and discovering the whereabouts of Jellicoe's ex-wife and daughter.
Bert and Charles know that Jellicoe will have multiple identities and safe houses and it's simply a matter of applying deductive reasoning as they slowly suss out each hiding place.
The Characters Myra and Charles seem to have reconciled while Kathryn and Bert are having a troubled patch. Maggie is finding that she's not sure she wants to be engaged to Ted anymore and Abner is looking quite attractive to her — probably because he told her to 'eff off. Annie may have started something with Fergus Duffy from New Scotland Yard.
President Martine Connor is finally getting off her duff and giving the heads of the CIA, the FBI, and Homeland Security an ultimatum about finding Hank Jellicoe. She also adopts Cleo, a German shepherd being retired from the military canine unit. Jack and Nikki, Harry and Yoko, and Joe and Alexis seem okay. Cornelia "Nellie" and Elias Cummings provide this particular story's kickstart. Isabella is starting up her own architect's office; I don't know what happened to the one she started in Lethal Justice.
Hank Jellicoe is also Professor Simon Jordan---the real professor was probably murdered by Hank; he's also Bertha Tolliver who drives a lovely old baby blue Cadillac. Marsha Olivettie is Hank's ex-wife and, hoo-boy, has she got a story to tell!
The head of the FBI is Yantzy; Span is the CIA head---turns out the CIA "burned" Jellicoe; and, Don Frank heads up Homeland Security. Virgil Anders was an up-and-coming reporter pulling together too much information on Jellicoe; now he's a crippled hermit looking for ways to bring him down. Tim, Bart, and Stella are fellow hackers Abner taps for help in hacking into the Witness Protection Program.
Avery Snowden has a cameo appearance. Amy Blandenburg may be Ted's new love interest.
The Cover and Title The cover is lovely and peaceful with its boardwalk snaking along the beach from the pair of Adirondack chairs back to the house with a cool sunrise just peeking over the horizon. What it has to do with the story, I haven't a clue.
I'm thinking that the title refers to how bored the ladies are with their legal existence and how happily they dive back into their old felonious habits. A bit of Déjà Vu all over again.
I don't give away spoilers in my reviews. This is another book that is in the Sisterhood series. I have read books in this series. I appreciate that each book can be read as a standalone or in a series. This is one of my very favorite series at the moment. I love these ladies/sisters. I love their different personalities, their wit and wisdom, and theirr strong sense of judgement. In Deja Vu, the Sisters are finally on the hunt for Hank Jellicoe. What ensues is a fast-paced and often funny story about their efforts to capture him and to make him pay for his past deeds. I also really appreciate Ms. Michaels' including the Men of the Sisterhood in this book. I enjoy reading about the relationship ups and downs the Sisters and their men have together. I can't pick a favorite character - it seems to change with each book. In this book, I really appreciated the physical strengths of Harry and Yoko. I think Harry is very much the often overlooked man of the Sisterhood series and always love his humor. Another great read and looking forward to my next book in the series - of which I have a pile of at least 10 hardcovers of the Sisterhood waiting for me in my bookcase.
Hank Jellicoe is still on the run, and everyone is fed up with his elusiveness. The President has given the alphabet organizations 30 days to locate and capture Jellicoe, or she will provide the vigilantes' carte blanche to get the job done. But the sisterhood isn't willing to sit around and twiddle their thumbs for 30 days; they put themselves on the job. This chapter of their life needs to end, and they will do whatever it takes to make it happen, even if it jeopardizes their pardons.
I just realized that what's been missing from the past few titles is Myra's conversations with her "spirit daughter," thank goodness. At least that part of the storyline has come to an end.
This book was ok. I was mostly dialog between the main characters, Sisterhood. Some of story and dialog I don't think was necessary as it didn't pertain to the main plot. The character they were looking for and trying to catching could have been given a larger part. The sisterhood and agents built him up as being great at hiding and not getting caught but once they found the character, the "catch" was only given a paragraph or 2. They burst into the house and got him. That could have been expanded on. But overall I enjoyed the read.
So this would more than likely be a 4 with the others as a background story but alone it was confusing at first. It’s hard to start a series this late in the game. These girls are tough! Role models for our daughters! They are in charge and need no men to help them! Rock on! They are vigilantes of sorts as they fight for the underdogs and kill the predators! Organized and each with great skills! You go girls!
Not the best or the worst of the Sisterhood series. This was better done than the last book, as it kept the focus on the main characters, where it should be. Sadly though, the characters aren't being developed any more. References to things like Myra clutching her pearls seem stale and tired now. And the justice seemed anticlimactic. I'll read the next one in the series someday, but not for a while.
Wonderful, exciting, funny, and a pleasure to read!
I have read all the books in this series. This one is truly funny and ends on a feel good note. This kept me entertained throughout the story. I loved how the girls were able to pull out what was needed when it was needed. The Sisterhood is definitely needed in today's world. To read this during the month for women is especially great!
The Next Chapter This book is the 19th in a series that I think should be read in order because the background stories matter. The saga revolves around a group of women, and their helpers, who are set on righting wrongs. These are clean stories with no foul language, no bedroom scenes, no gore, and little violence. In this episode, all of the members are trying to find their new place in the world. And then their world is set on its ear. This is a very good story with lots of surprises.
This is a fun series to read as the Sisterhood helps each one of the Sisters and a few others along the way. --------------------- **Must read the series in order.** Love, Love this series. Highly recommend to those that enjoy: Fast reads, Some romance, crime-suspense, mystery suspense, chic lit n romance n drama, humor, action packed suspense romance, mf. Started reading Fern Michaels in 2018. (As I write this review I'm up to book 26. March 1st 2019. & will start book 27 next week)
Must begin with book and read them in order to understand all of the people that come into the Sisterhood and when the men start coming into it. Love the changes of the Post and how everyone works together around the table. Nothing gets discussed at the dinner table but only in the war room.
Romances develop, marriages happen, punishment/revenge happens to someone who wronged someone else whether it is someone within the Sisterhood or a random person. The sisters all work together to get through the tough times and the happy times. So many twists and turns. Love, Love reading this series. I take time off after I read a couple books and read my other genres and come back to read this series.
The vigilantes are horrible in this book. They think they’re so great just because they’re women and think they control the men. I’ve looked back on other books and their horrible attitudes are easily dismissed because of a good story. Not so much in this book.I’m sure if I go back and reread all the books will show the vigilantes as horrible characters.
Yet another Sisterhood book that I could not put down. I burst out laughing so many times while reading this one! It gives a whole new meaning to "the one that got away". From now on I will carry more than one roll of duct tape in my truck - it really does come in handy for so many things! Can't wait to start the next in the Series.
I ❤️❤️❤️ this series and the Sisterhood! How awesome that the villain gets his comeuppance after all the misery he caused for years!!! I believe this series is so wildly successful because the women who read it can personally identify with the characters. We see a little of ourselves in the women of the Sisterhood.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, Fern Michaels. I got sucked into another Sisterhood book & wasted my money again. Well, that’s my bad, & I’ll probably get sucked into buying another Sisterhood book. Your good fortune, my bad.
Another very satisfying caper of the vigilantes. Plastic surgery, disguises, vintage cars, Red Hats and purple dresses all lend to the fun of this particular hunt for Hank Jellicoe..
Another great book in the sisterhood series’s by Fern Michaels. This author has done it again she has given us another book that we would have a hard time putting aside without reading it to the end first. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
The president has given the ladies a reprieve and they all work together with the guys to find and capture the infamous Hank Jellicoe and at the same time planning a surprise 40th birthday party for one of their favorite ladies!
Totally binned this one. Couldn't get into it. Am tired of seeing it in my "currently reading" list here on Goodreads. Crap characters living a reality unknown to most, which yes, are like most of the books I enjoy reading, but this one rankled badly.
What an amazing and exciting book! I began reading this book in the late evening of a Tuesday. I read all night and into the afternoon on Wednesday!! I could not find a place to stop reading! I’m glad I didn’t cause it was a spectacular story. Be sure you read it!!!
Fern Micheals has done a wonderful series , that is so awesome!! I can't think of the things that could help her with her writing. I wish I was capable of writing books that is so entertaining as her Sisterhood sreies!!
There is nothing better than sister hood, your girls will always have your back. This series keeps me coming back for more and loving every word. These girls rock!
