What a mess! The H and h were both TSTL. She has a husband fighting in the war against the despised "Yankees" (I HATE all that stupid Rebel pride) and she honors this by cheating on him! Then, thinking he's dead, she has more fun with her "true love", but two seconds later believes the H killed her husband and runs off without a word (typical dumb h behavior).
The H acts like a nincompoop, telling the h "I love you", "I love you", "I love you", ad nauseum, like a lovesick schoolboy crushing on his pretty teacher. Then, when she runs off, he consoles himself by sleeping with her sister!! Even more stupid, when Sis gets preggers, knowing her propensity to sleep around and having no idea if it's his kid, he decides to do the honorable thing and marry her! What a joke!! (He could at least have made her swear on a stack of Bibles first, though that may not have kept her from lying.) Then, he keeps getting drunk and has sex with her while thinking about the h!
The h, meanwhile, had her share of troubles, but soon has yet another lover to keep her happy, though - naturally - she keeps thinking about the H. Still, since he's now her brother-in-law and the father (supposedly) of her nephew, she decides she'll marry her lover. Then, her husband shows up! He wasn't dead, after all, which means the H didn't kill him! What's more, hubby was a deserter! Yet, she feels sorry for him, having become less stubborn and more compassionate. Now, she has a sudden revelation: maybe she was a tad hasty in running out on the H without hearing what he had to say first. YOU THINK????
But then: hubby croaks again; this time for real!! Then, her lover proposes again! And then...
