Bought this in a magical book shop in Seoul. One of the best impulse book buys ever. Beautiful maps. Excellent descriptions of history. Wish there was a smaller version because it's a great survey of human history that could be required reading as it hits all the highlights, and a lot of small pieces (i.e. it marks off a month long Communist uprising in Hamburg. Most Hamburgers didn't know that happened!).

As is often the case with concise histories, much detail is left out and some important detail is sadly lacking. However in conjunction with the other books on my History shelf, the Atlas is definitely worth reading.

In my struggle to find a good general world history book, I found this one to be pretty good. Lots of good maps and good general world history. Only problem is that it ended before the Soviet breakup. I would recommend this as a good general history book.
