Wheels: An Anthology of Verse

Wheels was primarily a vehicle for Edith, Osbert, and Sacheverell Sitwell's entry into the modernist literary scene. Theirs was a modernism with visible roots in French decadent literature, positioned against the more wholesome and traditional Georgian anthologies of Edward Marsh. Most of the poets who wrote for Wheels were friends of the Sitwells: among them, Helen Rootham, Nancy Cunard, Iris Tree, Aldous Huxley, and Wilfrid Owen, whose work they introduced in the fourth issue, a year after he died in the war. The few works of visual art in the magazine show connections to Futurism and Vorticism.
