Callie Ryder's life has forever been about shocking people. She's even doing it for a living - giving sex advice to female callers on her late-night radio show. The ratings, not to mention Callie's popularity as a shock jock, are off the chart, but she's still got places to go....

When Callie's on-air sex tips result in a West Coast book tour, even threats against her "telling it like it is" aren't going to slow her down. Instead, she gets a bodyguard for protection. And not just a bodyguard. But the best bodyguard—Luke Cardasian. Heart-stopping to look at, he's tough as nails and strong like steel, with animal instincts...and appetites.

A dangerous, sensual, sex-filled road trip.

Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book, particularly because it featured an Alpha male military type who was sexually inexperienced and had a heart of gold. Contrast this to the typical Alpha male hero, historical or contemporary, who's so jaded with experience he probably has calluses on his manparts. Luke contracts as a bodyguard to the reluctant Callie Ryder, a shock jock radio personality who's receiving death threats for her on-air sex show. As they cross the country on Callie's book tour, Callie tries to drive Luke off the job by embarassing him with seduction. Too bad it works out too well...

This book has all the ingredients to be a good book and it just didn’t read the recipe. It’s a bodyguard romance featuring a carrie bradshaw type radio host who is receiving death threats because of her sex talks, but it turns out the death threats are from her best friend in order to boost the heroines publicity so she can get more famous. the last 50 pages were rough for me.

I was expecting a more feminist take considering the issues that were being talked about and tackled with her being a sex talk radio host, but instead I got a jealous best friend who was obsessed with the heroine. Even having the early morning slot talk show dude come out snd be the “big reveal” as the antagonist felt cheap and derailing for what I thought was going to happen.

lots of selfish/annoying characters who were walking contradictions and a hero with a tragic past with love that felt less tragic and more icky. maybe it’s because I’ve read “The Rommate” and “The intimacy Experiment” so my expectations are too high when dealing with these kinds of books and issues, and maybe I should cut this one a break because it was written 16 years ago, but I’m disappointed and I feel cheated.

So this isn’t just me shitting on the book, I will say I liked how the dynamic between the hero and heroine were switched, where the heroine is the one with experience and the hero is the one coming to her to learn more about sex. I think it nailed that aspect great. He was very stuffy and easily embarrassed (he blushed a lot!!) which I found enduring, and she loved pushing his buttons. There was also a very hot scene in a bar that I was sweating for!

I’m going to give this author another go because I have hope this was a fluke, but this one was not something I enjoyed or would recommend.
