Computing for " Children and the Internet "
Children's Online Safety does not come by luck, they have to be prepared . This book is aimed at empowering children with knowledge about their experience on the internet to keep them safer instead of blocking or filtering.
Also, the digital divide goes beyond issues of connectivity, it can be strongly linked to the Digital Skills and Digital Literacy of children and families. Schools often implement an instrumental version of media literacy, if it's taught at all, partly because of hostility from governments' education policy to creative and critical approaches whereas media literacy in nonformal & informal settings is more promising.
The purpose of this book is to give children the information they need about the internet in order to dispel the fears that are created by not knowing. It also has sections where children are alerted on how to become conscious participants in their visits to the internet.
Despite being tech-savvy, in some of the chapters, we share with children how some of their online activity can cause them future harm.
Special needs children are not left out because they face similar challenges as other children.
As a parent, guardian, or educator, do not allow yourself to be frightened by the technological changes, we have compiled safety tips on how to best educate children about the internet and technology at large. You can best implement the purpose of this book by reading it to your child , and reading the important hints, and using them whenever applicable.
