While on a fossil-finding field trip, Billy Keen and his friend Karen Sanders discover something shocking and threatening to their lives, and their only hope is a young cryptozoologist
We’re so back. Strange Matter, if any series of this genre, is 100% capable of delivering an intense and cinematic kids’ horror story in spirit of Jurassic Park… and Primeval didn’t disappoint. Not only does it tie into multiple entries from the series (Second Sighting, The Last One In, Big Foot Big Trouble), but manages to even build on them a bit whilst delivering some amazing material of its own. The character work is solid and the threat is fully realized and even works well thematically. Writing is above average however that’s a symptom of this series’ evolution, and the climax is thrilling—arguably one of the best of the series whilst not feeling too overwhelming, even for my taste. Overall, 10/10. This is basically just Second Sighting (one of the best of the series) but with dinosaurs as the imminent threat instead. A must read from this series in seriousness, not to sound like a fucking critic.
A fun read if you love Dinosaurs. Though, re-reading it as an adult, I questioned some character motives, but if you need something light with an air of Jurassic Park, I suggest grabbing a copy.
