I used this is a textbook for an American Religious History class and found it to be one of the most engaging and fruitful primary source readers I've ever encountered. I think my students got a lot out of it, and it generated some good in-class discussion. Also useful as a source of illustrative anecdotes for lecture prep.
An outstanding, high quality collection of primary selected from American religious history, as well as well written and thoughtful secondary sources. Excellent in helping the reader gain an understanding, appreciation, and "feel" for the the various issues and epochs in the said history. Highly recommended.
