How to Lose at Love

Rate this book
I, Dallas Colter, need a good girl to save my bad reputation.

With too much on my plate, the very last thing on my mind was a relationship—the football draft was looming and dating got in the way. I never understood why my teammates bothered with girlfriends. None of us had the time.

When my sports agent suggested that being seen in public with a respectable girl would be good for my bad reputation, I couldn’t think of a single person to help me out. The only girls I knew weren’t wifey material, and the ones who were? Might catch feelings.

Except Ryann Winters.

Responsible. Sarcastic. Smart. Ryann is perfect but there was one clincher: she was my teammates ex-girlfriend and I had recently been paid by him to dump her.

Not the best start to a fake relationship…

I’m always here for a Sara Ney new adult sports romance. This had a grumpy/standoffish hero, fake dating, and was a fun read with a lot of heart.

Dallas needs to be more likable/family friendly for the NFL draft, so his agent encourages him to spend some time with a respectable female to make himself more approachable. The way Dallas and Ryann meet is something else and I wouldn’t say they hit it off, but with time they come to truly like each other.

I loved that these two developed a friendship before things became more. Dallas started off as a bit unlikable, but with time he really grew on me. Ryann was great throughout. There was a standard misunderstanding towards the end, but it didn’t bother me too much. This one was a quick, fast paced and enjoyable read!

Woohoo - it feels like the old Sara Ney is back. 🖤

I came across her books when she wrote her Douchebag series and fell in love with Oz and Zeke. It was the time of fictional jerks and assholes (remember Vicious?) and SN delivered. But afterwards her stories became bland and unremarkable to me. It got so bad that I stopped reading her books altogether, because whenever I picked one up it turned into a DNF (snore).

So, HOW TO LOSE AT LOVE totally surprised the heck out of me by being a) charmingly witty (my kind of charming lol) and b) enjoyable as a NA college sports romance should be. Although can I just say - favorite tropes galore!!!!

But it wasn't just a great NA college sports romance. I also enjoyed the heck out of the couple. With witty dialogues, and a heroine who was blunt, atypical, and just entertaining - and a hero who was honest to a fault, bordering on insensitive with his honesty, but also very much down to earth, focused on knew what he wanted and needed to do to get drafted.

I loved their interactions and that the book was to almost 80 % about the couple, about them getting to know each other (although I would have loved even more couple time i.e. in public etc.). Also loved, loved, loved their truth and dare games - the answers were so unexpected at times (but also true to character).

The big fallout/drama/plot was a bit too predictable for me and bordered on cliché - actually why do we need a fallout at all?????

So, overall a highly entertaining read. The biggest surprise of the year for me yet. And I already predict a re-read coming up. Furthermore I'm excited about the brothers to come, especially Drake, can't wait for him to fall - hehe.

Dallas Colter is a southern boy from Texas that is playing college football in Wisconsin. He's the star quarterback on his way to being drafted into the NFL. He's driven and completely focused on football and his future. Then his agent suggests he should appear more relatable and approachable. It would help to cultivate a positive image in the media, and being seen with a good, respectable girl would improve his reputation. The problem is he has no time for dating or distractions, and isn't interested in being in a relationship. Then he thinks of the one girl who doesn't like him enough to catch feelings or get attached. The only issue is she holds a grudge against him, and probably won't want to help him out.

Ryann Winters is a senior at a University in the Midwest where she attends college and works at the local diner. She is minding her own business when the hottest guy on campus suddenly needs a favor. Dallas Colter is the jerk who broke up with her for his teammate, but he's also so popular he's practically a campus legend. He has no filter and she finds him to be extremely annoying, but it's also impossible not to notice how gorgeous he is. When he wants her to pretend to be in a fake relationship with him, everything turns complicated. Will the role she's playing start to feel too real?

How to Lose at Love by Sara Ney is the first book in her Campus Legends series. It's a slow burn, fake dating, grumpy sunshine, opposites attract, enemies to lovers, college, sports romance packed with amazing chemistry, angst, hilarious banter, and plenty of swoon. I loved this book and these characters so much! Ryann is awesome!!! She's confident and knows her worth. Lol, I adored her snarky side. Then Dallas is a jock full of layers. I can't wait for more books in this series and more Colter brothers. I look forward to the twins stories! <333

I've tried to drop this book a million times because I wasn't feeling it and it was plain boring. Still, however, I kept giving it a chance because it was a Sara Ney book and I read some good ones by this writer.

And now, having finished reading it, I can't believe why she has written such a plain simple book with absolutely pale and dull characters. No chemistry, no fun, no banter, nothing interesting. A few clichés and some boring stuff - that's all.

The book has killed all my life energy that I cannot find it in myself to write a long and detailed review about it.

I can just say that the hero Dallas is a douchebag who goes and breaks up with a girl on behalf of his teammate because he didn't have the guts to do it himself. Our heroine, Ryan, hates him at first. Later, he realizes that they take the same class and he tries to be friends with her because he thinks she is cool. And when his agent asks him to be seen with a wholesome girl for better publicity, he thinks our girl Ryan could be the one and asks her to help him by pretending to be his fake date. When she asks what's in it for her, he is surprised and he cannot answer it because he thinks that every girl should want to spend time with him and would like to be seen with him. His ego is something else.

I was expecting some good banter there but she goes and agrees to do it. Why? Well, all because she thinks he needs to learn how to treat a girl/woman right and she wants to teach him how.

However, when they get to know each other better, she sees that he may be clueless about certain things but his heart is in the right place. He is at least honest and trustworthy.

And the mundane stuff goes on. She initiates all the intimacy stuff. They get physical too soon. A cliché problem arises, there is a short separation and then, after 6 months of dating, the book ends with her moving in with him to his house where he lives with his two brothers and where he will stop living soon and go to most probably another state... It all depends on where he will be drafted as a NFL player. So I asked myself, "why move in with him when he will soon move out???" Weird ending it was...

Well, all in all, it's been a waste of time for me. At least it was free on KU...

P.S. Awful cover, by the way.

How to Lose At Love is fun. I miss a good NA sport romance from Miss Ney. She always have a funny story. What I lpve about jer story is that her capability to bring the simplest theme into laugh out funny.

The banter is not boring. It fulls with fun, sweet, real conversation. I love both Ryann and Dallas. Their chemistry is off the chart.

I said it once and I'll say it again: Sara Ney can write the male perspective perfectly. I legit feel like I am in the head of her hero. Their expressions, mannerisms, thoughts and actions are perfection. Ryann and Colton were fantastic in that I enjoyed their banter and how honest and real their interactions were. This story reminded reminded me of how much I miss Zeke and Ney's Dbag series!

Overall, this story was fun and sexy and while I would have liked to see more emotional depth between them, this was a fun read! 4 stars! ~Ratula

As soon as I started reading this book I was going insane with the massive amount of deja vu I was having over these Colter brothers and the three neighbours. I kept looking at random books trying to remember who they were related to and why I remembered moving them into their house. And then finally the boys mentioned Duke and Posey and it all flooded in and the book got this extra sprinkle of awesome.

Because despite the fact this is the first book in the series and as such is a complete stand-alone I feel like I kinda know these boys. Even though we literally got like a page of them in The Secret Roommate. And starting with Dallas who is the most like Duke in personality was awesome. And now I'm thinking I need to find out if Elias has a book and go one click it.

Anyway back to this book. Sara Ney writes some books that I can't get enough of and then sometimes she writes books I don't like. So every time I pick one up I'm hoping I'm going to love it and this one I definitely did. Because Dallas is the type of hero you can't help but get swoony over. He isn't a manwhore, he isn't a shallow party boy, he doesn't need redemption, he's just busy and not looking for anything to distract him from his goal.

And Ryann was the perfect distraction because she isn't all that interested either. She was just off living her life not caring about the college social scene or who's who on campus. And although she didn't make Dallas jump through hoops he still had to work for it.

The slow build between these guys was great, especially with the amount of chemistry flying around between them. I can't wait to see the twins get their books and hopefully we get more of Duke and Posey as well as Dallas and Ryann in the future. Would also be great to see if Diego finds love where Dallas is thinking he should look. Hint hint.

4,5 stars. What a great sports romance! I loved both characters. Ryann was feisty and no doormat. Dallas was a jock, but not the player kind we usually got to read. Their bantering was funny and I liked that the hero was clueless most of the time. His bond with his brothers was amazing, can’t wait to read their books! I like a sports romance and fake dating, this one had both tropes. There could’ve been more angst with the fake dating trope. That would’ve spiced things up. I cheered for Ryann, being true to herself and having the guts to act the way she does. Although Dallas seems like a douche at the beginning of the book, he’s anything but. He has to wake up more than a few times, but he’s learning in the relationship department, lol. The storyline was engaging, a cute couple, some hot sexy scenes, of course sports and a lot of humor. Recommend reading this book! Loved it!! Great first book in a new series!

So this story was so intriguing and I flew so quickly threw it. Sara Ney is a delight to read especially if you are looking for a laugh-out-loud NA romance to delight in. The setup of this story was really interesting and their dynamic was fun. It wasn't a perfect read but it was intriguing and fun. Sara Ney is an author who can write some really interesting romances for NA with the typical drama that you can expect from an NA romance. Not always a fan of how her third acts are implemented but she normally can get some delightful happenings going on. The premise of the story literally made me laugh so I knew I was in for quite an adventure. I also really enjoyed the elements that the author bring to this story here. It was also intriguing because we get introduced to the brothers which we will see much more of for this series. And if you are a football fan as I am, then there is enough focus on the sport to really keep you interested. I did like that the author didn't just disregard it. We have aspects of how strong athletes need to be mentally to play the game and it's not all about the fame and glory and I appreciate that element being brought to attention. Even though I wasn't a fan of the third-act conflict, I did really enjoy that our characters BOTH take accountability of the issue and we can see the human element of making mistakes and owning those mistakes and working on improving yourself which is why this third act wasn't horrible because the author spun the human element so authentic within the story which I truly appreciated.

Overall I had a blast with this one, and I am eager to see what she delivers with this family because they were a blast and these covers SO SO GORGEOUS!

Sara Ney and her boner for accents 😁 In every single book... 🙂

I've had a little break from this author, and it definitely did some justice. Unfortunately, the story of Dallas and Ryann is pretty mediocre. It was enjoyable, very low on angst, some drama towards the end, but not too heartbreaking. As a comfort read it works well.

Update 3/1/23 the audio is AMAZING.
I liked this book an excessive amount. To the point that I think it might be my new favorite SN book. Gasp!
I loved seeing Duke's brothers, that we met in the Secret Roommate, and Dallas, he is the grumpiest of them all. Dallas is doing a favor for a friend when he breaks up with Ryann for him, but he's actually doing a favor for them both. Not only does he meet this spitfire who doesn't take his crap, but he might have just found someone to help his "image".
Ryann really didn't think her relationship was going places, but being dumped by her boyfriend's friend, well that takes the cake. Dallas is crude and rude and gruff and she might just take him up on the offer to help him out so she can teach him a few things.
They, however, teach one another a few things and when I say the tension in this novel is off the charts, I mean it. A guy who has no time for a girl and a girl who thinks her heart is safe because he's not really her type? Classic "they will fall for one another anyway" trope, and I will let you know, I am here for it. This will absolutely be a book I come back to and read over again. You can bet on it.

Trope: fake relationship
Angst: 😱😱

How to Lose at Love is a super cute and fun read with tons of witty banter and truly likable characters! Storyline was a bit predictable, but well written and still super enjoyable. Loved seeing the cynical and broody Dallas Coltor catch feelings with the brash and sassy Ryann. She is totally the type to put herself out there and and you couldn’t help but root for her even when her faith faltered. Really enjoying all these Coltor brothers and I am super excited that it’s Drake that’s up next!

I love this book! A college sports, fake relationship, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance that is fun, heartfelt and laugh-out-loud funny. With a strong and feisty heroine and an adorably clueless, ‘give-no-fucks’ alpha hero, this is such a great read, and I really enjoyed this one!

Dallas Colter is a college quarterback and football superstar who is expected to go #1 in the NFL draft. The only problem is his personal life, specifically, the fact that he doesn’t have one. His whole world is football, and he sees no problem with that. So when his agent recommends he finds himself a nice, respectable, responsible girl to be seen in public with, he has no idea what to do.

Ryann is contemplating ending a strange and unfulfilling relationship. She and her ‘boyfriend’ have been dating for two months, but there is really nothing to the relationship – they rarely spend time together, they’re not physical, they’ve never even kissed! She’s about to end it all when one of her ‘boyfriend’s’ teammates approaches her at her work and dumps her on his behalf (her boyfriend having no clue how to do it himself).

”So. I’m just going to rip off the Band-Aid.” Dallas Colter pulls his hands out of his jacket pockets and claps them together definitively. “Diego is breaking up with you.”
I’m sorry. What? “
Excuse me?”
“I said, Diego is breaking up with--”
I hold my freezing-cold hand in the air. “No, I heard you. I just…” I start to laugh. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”

It’s a fabulously entertaining introduction for Dallas and Ryann, and understandably, she instantly hates him. So when Dallas needs to find a fake girlfriend who won’t hang off him like a groupie, Ryann is the obvious choice. And she, thinking that she could teach the dumb jock something about women and relationships, agrees.

“The thought of sex with me makes you want to barf?”
What the actual fuck. Never in my damn life have I ever had—
“Kind of. You’re not exactly my type.”
Ryann Winters is so full of shit right now I can’t believe she can sit there and say that with a straight face. Not my type my
ass. I’m everyone’s fucking type!
Even guys want to have sex with me!
Who is she kidding?

Though initially full of snark, it doesn’t take long for things to shift into a flirtatious, sort-of friendship, which is so much fun as they tease and hold absolutely nothing back from each other. And as attraction sparks, things get steamy, feelings become involved, and Dallas and Ryann are in uncharted territory. But, true to their natures, they just jump right in, doing what feels right, and I loved watching them navigate it all.

“So what I’m hearin’ – just to make sure I’m not misunderstandin’ you – is that you…like me.”
Like him. “Sure. That’s one way of putting it.”
That makes him laugh.
He grins at me. “Is it so hard to say you have the hots for me?”

These characters are so awesome! Ryann is smart, confident and sassy, I love the way she handles Dallas, and she’s at her best when she’s pushing all of his buttons. And Dallas is a fabulous character! He’s a football jock, smart, funny and cocky, and the man gives no fucks – he says and does whatever he wants, and what you see is what you get. With that comes this fabulous innocence. He doesn’t play games, and doesn’t expect others to either. He’s a straight-talker, and doesn’t do (or pick up on) subtlety, and watching him experience a relationship and feelings for the first time is so awesome!

“God, I hate this.”
“Hate what?”
“Hate how this is so hard.”
“What’s hard?” And no, I’m not trying to make a dick joke.
“This…telling you how I feel.”
“You’re telling me how you feel?” I am
so confused right now.

He hides nothing, and I love his honesty, which led to some gorgeously tender moments when the big tough guy realises that the girl he’s falling for, is falling right back.

“It’s hard, you know? Who would want to take all this one?”
Ryann’s lips part. Her shoulders move up and down in a shrug. “Me. I would.”
She would.

It’s such a sweet romance, and though the pressure of a relationship in the public eye does cause some issues, I enjoyed watching them figure it all out and get their happy ending.

“You’re the only thing I get to choose that’s choosing me back.”

Such a fun read, I loved this one – 4 stars!

Wow I don’t even know where to start. I do not understand how this book has such a high rating. I’ve seen some reviews stating that some of the issues readers may have with the book stem from it being a NA or college romance and readers may be older. That is not why! I haven’t been a college student in a while, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy college-aged characters or books. This book was just not good.

To start off, Dallas is an immature asshole. He agrees to dump his teammate Diego’s girlfriend Ryann for $50 just for shits and giggles. He was bored, so why not? This is one of the first things you find out about him, and he doesn’t get any better throughout the book. My biggest issue is that he continuously hints or flat out says Diego is gay and only used Ryann because he wasn’t ready to be out of the closet. That’s such a shitty thing to do and completely unnecessary for the story. Diego may have been a coward for not breaking up with Ryann himself, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to out him. I truly do not understand what the writer was trying to accomplish by including that.

As for Ryann, she was really just boring. I feel like she was supposed to be that “cool girl” that doesn’t watch sports which makes the sports star like her more, but instead she just has no personality. I also don’t understand her intense reaction to the “big drama”. It was so over the top, and I felt like she made way more of a big deal than was necessary. They should have stayed broken up. It was obvious that Ryan just wasn’t fit for a relationship with someone in the spotlight, WHICH IS FINE! There’s nothing wrong with valuing your privacy, and I feel like they just settled with each other despite having zero chemistry.

This was the first book I’ve ever read by this author, and if this book is representative of the others, this will be the last book I will read by this author. In the end, I finished the book just to see what would happen, not because I actually liked it. I was honestly waiting to see where the numerous 4 and 5 star ratings came from. Spoiler - I never figured it out.

Sara Ney is one of those unicorn authors for me. Whenever I'm in a book slump or in a mood funk, her stories always seem to bring me out of whatever I'm dealing with.

I fell hard for How To Lose At Love! It's a fun, addictive read that I didn't want to end. It's comical but not over the top. There are these quotes from different characters in the stories at the beginning of each chapter that are hilarious and full of sarcasm.

The story starts with Dallas being paid by his teammate to break up with said teammate's girlfriend, who is Ryann, the heroine in the story.

The nerve, right?! Well, fate intervenes, and now Dallas needs Ryann to help him out.

I may be embarrassing myself, but I didn't realize Dallas was Duke's brother until he was telling Ryann about his brother hiding out with a kindergarten teacher. (The Secret Roommate - which is also another great one to read!) Then I realized how similar Dallas's personality was to his brother's. (There are also twin brothers in this family who hopefully will both get their turn at love.)

If you are looking for a fun read that will hook you, then you need to read this one!

Young Adult Football Romance

I do enjoy a SN novel but I have to be in the right frame of mind. These are young adult college romance stories and at times their youth shines through. This could be taken in both ways of good and bad. There are moments where I’m laughing with them, and others where I’m wondering if they’ll ever grow up but that’s college kids for you. They need to learn through experience on how to navigate life. I did enjoy reading this one with the banter and connection they had and I thought they dealt well with their dilemmas. Dallas has three brothers, all who have or will have their own book and I’m happy to keep reading about the football loving Colter men.

Loved Ryann and Dallas

These two where so much fun - their frenimies to lovers Romance had me laughing through the whole book. Dallas is the BMOC and Ryann is far from popular but these two were magic together. Truly meant to be. Ryann hold nothing back and is just the type of girl to put up with the crap that comes a long with dating Mr. Popular. A great start to a new series and can’t wait for the twins!

I'm SO excited that the rest of the Colter brothers are here, because since I read The Secret Roommate I absolutely fell in love with them! Besides Sara Ney makes me laugh a lot with her characters and I can't help but enjoy her stories even more. And in How To Lose At Love Dallas & Ryann were so unconventional, funny, sexy and adorable that I loved their love story a little more than the older Colter's. !

I have to say that I LOVED Ryann a lot, she's a fairly ordinary girl, who is clear about who she is and what she wants, the only thing she is not very sure is her relationship with Diego, her current boyfriend, but her problem is solved when Diego sends Dallas to end his relationship with Ryann!!! And from that moment she goes from having no idea who Dallas is, to hating him a little bit and meeting him in every corner of campus, something I really enjoyed because Dallas manages to push all Ryann's buttons and bring out the best and the worst of her personality when she's with him, plus Ryann gets an idea of Dallas' personality that has nothing to do with reality and I loved that.

Dallas is one of the most popular & besieged athletes on campus, not only by students, but by the press, he's a guy who says what he thinks without a filter, he is aware of the costs of his potential fame and has a very nice & fun relationship with his family, but everything turns upside down for him when his agent request him to present a good image for the press and getting a new girl to pretend to be his girlfriend... and the only person he can think of is Ryann, the girl who can't stand him and who is his teammate's ex.

Ryann & Dallas have one of the funniest and most adorable love stories, I loved the peculiar and disastrous way in which everything started between them, how Ryann's attitude towards Dallas changed as she spent time with him, but their little fights and arguments continue, even when their feelings start to change, and best of all, Sara gave me just the right amount of drama these two needed.

Ryann & Dallas

I usually love Sara Ney's books, but this one just didn't sit too well with me. I thought Ryann was a bit harsh with some of the negative thoughts she had of her best friend, Winnie.

Also, there were three girls who lived next door to the Colder brothers, but it seemed like the author only had names of two of the girls and the other one was just never there? That was a bit confusing yo me.

And the end with Tiffany, didn't seem to be resolved. It felt like there was going to be some foreshadowing with her, but then it went to the epilogue. Does this mean she was going to show up in the next book?

TW: cheating allegations.

How to Lose at Love is a short story focused on a short-term fake-dating trope that eventually turns into the real thing. Ryan and Dallas are both in college and meet because Ryanns boyfriend didn't have the guts to break up with her, so he paid Dallas to do it. (???)

I wanted to DNF this on the first chapter but surprisingly I stuck around until the end.

I really don't even know where to start. Every single character is bland. They're like unseasoned chicken in a dry salad with no tomatoes or cheese- just lettuce, chicken and vibes. Bland and boring. I had seen the 5-star ratings and assumed this would be a decent quick-read because I'm a sucker for the infamous fake-dating trope, but oh my goodness this book gave me n o t h i n g

Okay scratch that, it gave me some comedy. "Diego and a dude named Kellen stand like two turds floating in a punch bowl, serving no purpose but to irritate me." This was funny, but also why are turds in a punch bowl...? Who's shitting in the punch bowl??? SECURITY!!!

There was also the beginning of some friend drama between Sav and Ryann. Sav was introduced to us as a friend, but kind of dissed/disrespected Ryann at some point and we just never hear about that again? Are they still friends? Did Sav apologize? What was Sav's reaction to the news Dallas and Ryann are dating ??

This read is purely a 1-star for me. It's not for me.

How To Lose At Love is the first book in the Campus Legends Series by Sara Ney! I’m fairly new to the wonderful world of Sara Ney, and I can say this with an honest heart that I’m loving this author’s writing style! She has a way of mixing humor and angst into one love story! I spent the last day and a half marathon reading this novel! I couldn’t put Ryann and Dallas’ story down!

Ryann has hit the rut of her two month relationship. She thought dating a popular football player in college would be what all her dreams are made of. Only the one she’s with, is kind of a dud. Calling it off is the only way out, but before she can make that move. She finds herself, outside of her work, being broken up with by her ex-boyfriends best friend….. He beat her to the punchline, and Ryann isn’t about to let that go.

Dallas is all about doing things all in the name of team work, but never in a million years did he imagine he’d be standing outside of a diner waiting for his teammate’s girlfriend to get off work, just so he can break up with her. But here he is. What Dallas doesn’t factor into the equation is the fact that he may have finally found his match in Ryann. She’s stubborn and feisty, but most importantly, she doesn’t care that he’s projected to be the first draft pick for the NFL. She’s everything he never thought he’d want, and yet on a day to day basis, she’s constantly in his thoughts.

So when Dallas’ agent tells him he needs a life outside of football and recommends he finds a nice girl to settle down with, for media purposes, he turns to Ryann. After all, he does owe her one for breaking up with her…. Dallas is about to learn, falling in love is the greatest risk with even better rewards!

My Thoughts:

So for starters, if you’re a fan of new adult/college romances revolving around sports, particularly football. It can safely be assumed you will probably love this romance. If you also love endless banter and an enemies to lovers type vibe with a fake relationship at the center of the storyline, it may be easy to guarantee you’ll love this one!

My heart is still swooning for How To Lose At Love! It’s going to be a long time before Ryann and Dallas’ story isn’t on my mind! Let’s start with the characters. Dallas Colter is as swoony as they come, but this man has a giant chip on his shoulder. That chip is the NFL. Since he was a boy, his one goal in mind was to get into the NFL. So he’s made it his mission to not let distractions interfere with the mission. Honestly, I loved seeing Dallas’ walls come crashing down. I loved watching him build a friendship with Ryann and then cross the lines into a relationship. When I say, my heart melted, don’t take that as an understatement!

Ryann grew up in the home of two relationship experts/psychiatrists and still she finds it hard to not grow bored with her relationships. She needs endless passion and an intensity that has the power to burn the world down around them. Sadly, she hasn’t found what she wants most. Until Dallas storms into her life with an agenda. I can’t stop laughing at their initial meeting. I loved the twist this novel held and I loved watching Dallas and Ryann grow a relationship from that initially awkward twist! I also loved the fact that Ryann and Dallas’ personalities seemed to fit immediately. There wasn’t a single moment when I thought, yeah this isn’t going to work. Even through all the bickering moments and endless banter, I knew these two were going to make it to the finish line in the most epic ways.

This review is extremely difficult to write without adding spoilers. Let me end this by saying, I found my 2nd favorite read of 2023! How To Lose At Love by Sara Ney is definitely worthy of the 1-click! I hope you all love Ryann and Dallas as much as I did!

***5 Stars***

It took me a moment remember WHO Dallas was (i.e. I went back through my reviews and realized he was one of Duke’s (The Secret Roommate) younger brothers and had a happy lightbulb moment) but once I did I was all in and loved watching as Dallas and Ryann became more than just a guy who was paid to dump a girl and the girl who was dumped by proxy.

I loved Ryann and Dallas. Ryann is snarky, sassy, determined and observant. She owns who she is and is comfortable in her own skin. Dallas is so much more than he appears to be. He’s focused on football and doesn’t pay attention to much else, which is a strength, but also a weakness. He’s blunt and cares deeply for his family.

The journey to their HEA was a unique one considering how they first met, which was definitely a not so meet cute. But as they enter into the fake relationship and spend time together, they find that things may not be as black and white as they expected. I really enjoyed watching Dallas and Ryann fall for each other. They have a great flow and banter and the chemistry between them is hot. The bumps in their road were expected, as were their reactions to them, but I like how they worked through them ~ with a little help from their friends and family ~ and where they were at in the end.

This was a fun read. The angst is on the low end, though there was just enough drama to keep things interesting, and it was just a lot of fun to hang out with the Colter brothers and get to see the dynamic with the three of them ~ well, four when Duke is around. I’m not sure which twin I like the most Drake or Drew, but I do know that both of the journey’s to their HEA’s will be all kinds of fun!
