Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Once again it's nice to read a graphic novel in between other stuff, but somehow I miss the details a novel offers.

The story was good, a typical Sherlock Holmes story. But even if it's nice to read the graphic novel, I think I'll re-read them in one of my target languages.

This graphic novel version of the famous "Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" in the Sherlock Holmes mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a fun romp. The story line and language are simplified to entice beginning and reluctant readers to enjoy these mysteries. The story is told in the guise of Dr. Watson writing a report, or case file, about some of his adventures with Holmes.

Volume three in the series adapts the story "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" where a priceless jewel somehow ends up in a holiday goose. It takes a few liberties with the original but not in a bad way. As in the other volumes there is an excellent "Further Reading and Websites" list at the end. These books are an easy, fun way to introduce the Sherlock Holmes stories to young readers.

The well-known mystery solving team of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are at it again in this graphic novel. The duo works to put the clues together to solve the mystery of the missing blue gem in a very easy to read, riveting story.
