What if, all you've ever known was ripped away from you...

Kali's life has been a never-ending nightmare, haunted by the murder of her mother and plagued by dark visions. Little did she know that her past would pale in comparison to her present fate.

Thrown into a world of mystical creatures and ancient Gods, Kali must come to terms with the fact that magic is real and destiny is inescapable.

As if that isn't enough, Hades' son, the ruthless and arrogant Prince of the Underworld Asmodeus, has been tasked with protecting her from the Devourer of Souls, but the only thing he's achieved so far is pissing her off.

While she navigates this treacherous new world and struggles to control her newfound powers, Kali must also navigate her complicated feelings for the arrogant prince and stay one step ahead of the Devourer of Souls who wants nothing more than to destroy her.

Will Kali be able to survive or will the shadows that chase her finally claim their due?

I loved all the different mythological references (greek, norse,...) and how quick the story goes on. The author just told the story without losing time on long description... which I really appreciate (even if I admit that once or twice I felt like it was a little bit too fast) 😉 I won't spoil everything but the mix between magic, destiny, quests and a little spice is kind of a big yes to me!

Many thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Sadly, I didn't love this SHORT book very much. The main reason I requested this book was the fact that it's greek mythology inspired and that's always a yes for me.

The pace was kinda off, the first 40% of the book there's not much happening and I got so bored waiting for things to get in motion.
The next 40% of the book was so fast paced, there are so many things being thrown at the reader, so many reveals that I had so slow down to assimilate everything.
And of course the last 20% had to slow down again and why not focus mainly on the romance which BTW happend in a blink of an eye, it felt like I skipped so many chapters cuz 1 second we complain about the whole situation and the next we're so in love...it was kinda cringy and it took instalove to a whole new level.

The characters were interesting but I didn't had any time to connect or care about any. There is a plot twist about some betrayal that didn't spark any emotion cuz as I said before, we barely got to know everyone so it didn't even matter.

What I liked about this book was for sure the mixing of the pantheons, I feel like there aren't a lot of stories that approach it (or I haven't found so far) and I'm very interested to see more about that.

For sure I'll try book 2 which I now know it will be longer and hopefully we'll get an even pace of the story. I'm also interested in the spin off series for the characters Rhode and Eirene.

The premise of this book is solid.
It's got the action, it's got the dark broody mysterious demon with grey morals.
You've got your badass FMC, and betrayal and fated mates.
It just needed to be fleshed out a bit more.

Like I said, amazing premise behind the story, it just needed a little more.

Invitation to Hell is the first book in Amber Bunches’ Goddess of Death series. Kali watched her mother die as a small girl, and she has lived her life believing that the things that she sees are merely “hallucinations” of her mind. But the truth is about to come out...in a big way.
Invitation to Hell is the first book that I have read by this author, but I look forward to reading the next book in this series. Kali is about to turn 18, and the secrets are waiting to erupt. Her birthday is supposed to be a day of fun, but things are about to get wild...and a bit ugly.
This book is told from multiple points of view, but the main view point you’re going to follow is Kali’s. Things happen a bit fast in this book, maybe a little too fast in some instances, so buckle up. You’re going to like the variety of characters that the author gives you. There is some sparking romance and some sparks of heat/steamy, too. Those moments are really going to set the stage for future steamy situations to come.
I think that this book could have used some fleshing out in a few scenes to really help take it up a notch. As it is, it’s a good book, but not quite reaching it’s full potential. I do like the mixing of mythology though and I know that you will, too.
I’m choosing to rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Let's start by setting expectations: this is an introductory novella to set up the 'Goddess of Death' series so don't expect it to be long and do expect a lot of exposition.

What attracted me to this book in the first place is the title, honestly it's pretty cool and I'm always drawn to myth inspired stories. However I was sad to say that this particular book didn't do it for me. The pace was breakneck speed! There were huge revelations back to back without any time to sit with them. A lot of the story felt like it was being told to the reader from a distance rather than us experiencing it with the characters.

The story mixed different pantheons and mythologies (Greek/Roman, Norse) which is a really fun idea. In practice, however, it felt like the story kept name-dropping without the necessary world-building to back it up or to explain how these things blend with the "human world" in a believable way. That is to say, I don't understand what the different mythological elements have to do with each-other in this world or how they interact.

There are things I did enjoy in this story. I thought the overall concept of the story was good and if the next books in the series flesh out the world more, it could be a really fun series. I also enjoyed the relationships between Kira and her adoptive family, there were some funny and heartwarming interactions I enjoyed. The found-family feeling was strong.

You might like this story if you enjoy:

Fated Mates
Alpha-hole romance

Invitation to Hell by Amber Bunch is really intriguing mixture of Greek and Norse mythology, which is fantastic in my eyes! The originality of this story is what really sells it for me. I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like this and I loved it.

My one critique is that I wish it was longer! It is fast-paced and because of that, some of the world building got a little lost. The good news is, this is the first book. So, my guess is, the world building will continue to get stronger as it spans across the rest of the series. And that makes me excited!

I loved the first person POV. Getting inside Kali’s head. She is such a great character with a quirky and sarcastic personality. I’m excited to get to know her more as the series progresses and see who she becomes.

This is absolutely action packed. I read it in one night because I couldn’t put it down. The writing is great, the characters are believable, and I think this series is only going to get better from here! I definitely recommend checking it out!

Thank you to R&R Book Tours and the author for the review copy and tour invite. All opinions are my own and unbiased.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book via R&R Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.

I thought this was a good start to a series. It's action packed, fast paced and there's a little bit of romance thrown in a well.

It was a little bit of a slow start for me but once things picked up it moved at breakneck speed. I loved that it was fast paced but there were definitely times where I thought it was moving a little too fast. I would have liked a little more about the magical system. I didn't fully understand it and I'm hoping that will be elaborated on in the next books. Now the romance was good. I liked it. There was a little bit of steaminess so be aware of that going in. This is one of those instances where things moved a little too fast for me. I would have liked a little more buildup to the romance because as it is it was like they say each other and fell in love basically. Don't get me wrong though because I do still really like these characters together.

Overall I thought this was a good start to a new series and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

What should you expect with this short book?

Mixed mythology
The Chosen One trope
Soulmates
Everyone has been lying for the MFC’s safety
Instant, extreme attraction

Pros:

Having a family that is as tight knit as the one here is rare. They truly give the sense that they know each other, care and will do anything to protect even the child that isn’t their blood. It’s lovely to see.

I appreciate that the MFC doesn’t just suddenly get good at fighting when she gets powers. She has years of training in multiple forms of fighting making her ability realistic and inspiring.

Cons:

I feel that either the book was too short for the author to truly explore everything she was dumping on the main character and her reactions to those things or the author didn’t think that was important and intends for this to be a plot and/or sex driven series.

The story would have been stronger if it had ended before the few week time jump at the end. Everything was set up just right for the second book to pick up with the MFC learning her powers and the underworld and to be kidnapped in the process. This denied readers a ton of understanding of how powers work in this world.

I was fortunate to be gifted a copy of this book as an advanced reader ❤️

I don't do spoilers, so don't you worry😏

This book is part of a massive world that the reader is introduced to. It is full of magic, gods, realms, and wicked creatures. It's placed comfortably in the modern world 🤩

The author does an amazing job at introducing a world away from worlds. There are so many nuggets of delightful information that as a reader, I want to continue to explore (and that's exactly what any first book should do 😉). This book was the hook and it's reeled me right in😏 There were plot twists that kept me up way past my bedtime because I was desperate to have an answer before sleeping.

This is a book that is in for the long haul. There are so many elements to this story that make it fun, steamy, and full of adventure and consequences. No good deed shall go unpunished in these pages 😏😉😏

And Asmodeus? Well, my door is always open for that man. I'll be waiting 😉

I am excited to be a part of this author's journey and more thrilled to know that book 2, Bound by Flames, is coming soon. This is a world that can sweep a reader away ❤️❤️

I’m afraid I was not impressed by this one. I think it has an interesting idea, with the mixed mythologies, secret child of divinity, alpha a-hole romance, etc. But the whole thing is just SO RUSHED. There is basically no build-up to ANYTHING. The books reads like an outline—like ‘here are what will be the highlights of the plot’—but also like the author then forgot to go back and flesh it out. I felt no connection to the characters, just felt confused by the multiple pantheons, got whip-lash from the romance, and then finished the book with a shrug (and that’s even with the hook for book two in there).

Mechanically, the writing seems as fine as I can judge in an ARC (and ‘unedited ARC’ at that). I can’t speak to editing, etc—again, I read an ARC. But I can say it’s readable, just sparse on the buildup and rushed in the plotting. I do hope the author invests in a better cover before publication though.

I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down! The way you ease in to the story, draws you in. There were some parts I feel moved a little too quickly however It was action packed with great descriptions of the fighting and demons.

I love the FMC! She is fierce, sarcastic, and strong willed. I fell in love with her relationship with her sisters. There banter made me laugh out loud.

The MMC is strong, slightly cocky and I love the relationship the evolves with the FMC. There is a nice dose of spice near the end.

I personally loved this and cannot wait to see what the next book holds!

This book was intriguing and featured a lot of Greek and Norse Mythology. This was a very quick read, it’s fast-paced, and I was left wanting more.

I really liked the bit of the fictional world I was introduced to. It was full of magic, gods, realms, and wicked creatures. This is the first book in the series and since it was short I’m hoping the author has some more world building in the other books in this series.

I really liked this book and the ending was unexpected and I’m excited to see where the next book goes with the story!

I couldn’t put this book down. It was a quick little read to start a series that I am dying to finish. (I’m told the next books are longer). This was a great mix of the different mythologies which is my absolute favorite kind of book. Kali was a great Heroine, I can’t wait to see her develop into the Bada** I know she is going to be. Great twist with the villain. As I said I couldn’t put it down, read it in one setting and can’t wait for the sequels

Invitation To Hell starts off as mundane as it comes then all of a sudden things start to happen... Without actually spoiling anything the story takes twists and turns and what the character Kali thought she knew was turned on its head.
This novel has it all, secret identities, gods, kidnappings, a struggle for power and a quest to save loved ones.
The writing that creates the world is great, it truly transports you into Kali's life. The sense of her struggles, heartache and belonging is felt and the adventure she embarks on just makes the reader root for her all the more.
Asmodeus just oozes sex appeal and I really liked his relationship with Kali, even if it sometimes came across as too possessive.
I must admit that when I first came across the talk about Loki and Zeus I didn't connect the dots and when that revelation was revealed it blew my mind along with the character Dafina! I loved the creation of all the characters and their history.
I felt the ending of the book was unexpected but in an expected kinda of way, I just had a feeling and it certainly leads the way to book 2 in a fantastic way.
I thoroughly enjoyed Invitation To Hell and look forward to the second novel.

Quick read, but it was great!

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Invitation To Hell for my honest review.

I love the characters and the plot. The author does a wonderful job at describing vivid action scenes. I love mythology and the mixed worlds that the author created in this book completely blew me away.
The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through the book.
It sets book two up perfectly. The spice level is moderate. I'm looking forward to more of it in the next book. Definitely will be reading more from this author!

Okay so when I finished this book I was totally surprised by how the book ended. When I started Invitation to Hell, I had no idea that it would be about the greek Mythology and the underworld. I mean this book took me completely by surprise. I loved how the author decided to base the book off of a lot of Greek Mythology gods and goddesses; even though I didn't know for sure who a couple of the characters were suppose to signify. I enjoyed the way the author kept me guessing as well as entertained with fast paced action and the spicy scenes. Now the book wasn't filled with spice, it kinda just sneaks up on you in the middle of the book and then it's sprinkled throughout the last several chapters. I really liked almost all the characters except the pure evil one (don't want to spoil it for anyone)!!! The authors style of writing had me completely enthralled while reading. I also enjoyed the three FMC's and they way they so easily bantered back and forth with one another and of course I love the sexy guy that just seems to appear out of thin air. The characters felt so realistic and relatable, young and seemingly so carefree when all of a sudden their lives are turned upside down and everything in their life changes in that moment. When chaos erupts causing pure madness, everything that seemed real was nothing but trickery put in place by entities unknown. The book does end on a cliffhanger though it only ignited my need to get my hands on book two as soon as it's released (early 2023)!!

The author also added chapters 1 and 2 of Bound by Flames (sequel to Invitation to Hell) in the very back of the book which is awesome but I felt like they were rushed, leaving me with more questions than answers. I think even without the extra chapters, the book was a fast-paced, fun, exciting fantasy book

This was a quick, fast-paced read that introduces us to Kali and her world. Kali lost her mother at the age of 6 and was taken in by family friends. I did love the family dynamic and close relationships between her and her adoptive parents & sisters. On the night of Kali's 21st birthday, her whole world changes when she discovers that her whole life has been a lie. We then are taken on a wild ride as she discovers who she truly is and learns of the danger coming for her. I felt that this was a fun introduction to the series, though I do wish it had been more fleshed out. The first half of the book was paced nicely, but the second half seemed to be rushed. Especially at the end - a lot happened but it just seemed to jump from one point to the next without fully explaining each scene. I also had trouble connecting with the characters - we didn't get to know them well enough to truly care for them, especially the love interest. That being said, I did enjoy the book and will read book 2.

Thank you to the author and Katie & Brey PA for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

I had the pleasure of reading an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This story starts off with a bang and never slows down. I loved the mix of gods, goddesses and the paranormal. The originality was fun and beginning of the the series starts off great and makes me want to continue. The MFC is strong and has been through so much. I loved the family aspect of the story and the idea that they are always there for each other. The MMC is kind of a jerk at first but he definitely grew on me. and their relationship is fiery and oh so hot. I did find that at times, the story felt rushed and there were a few repetitive things within the book. Having said that, I still enjoyed the story and was given the opportunity to read the first 2 chapters of book 2 which i can't wait to get my hands on. I look forward to continuing this story and can't wait to see what author Amber Buch does with the situation that she left us in. This book gets 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this prequel. This is a quick read as it is a novella but there can be a fine line with novellas. As they are short, the author has to give enough detail to get the reader excited to read other books by the author or in this case the next book in this series. I thought that Amber did a really good job of doing just this. One Invitation to Hell...Yes, please!

There were a few twists thrown in that I was not expecting. Additionally, I loved the characters. There is Kali, who is one of the main characters and the reason that Asmodeus, son of Hades has come to the mortal world. He is here to take Kali to Helheim realm. I loved how Kali did not easily fall for Asmo's charm and even managed to push some of his buttons. Although, things did heat up between these two. Which I can't wait to see how it progresses in the next book in this series. Also, excited to learn more about Kali's sisters Rhode and Eirene.

4/5⭐
1.5/5 🌶️

**Tropes**
🖤 hidden powers
🖤 chosen one
🖤 grumpy hot protector
🖤 my whole life is a lie
🖤 “you belong to only me”

📖 **My Thoughts**
Kali seems to live a fairly average life, even after the death of her mother. She had two loving adoptive parents and amazing supportive sisters. That is until the night of her twenty first birthday 👀 everything goes to shit, she finds out she has powers, her entire life has been a lie, and there are people who want her dead.

⚠️ **Triggers**
Violence, blood, drinking, sex, drugs.

🏳️‍🌈**Representation**
While her sister is still sitting halfway in the closet, she gay af 😂

🌶️ **Spice**
There isn’t a sex scene until about 80% through. But the spice was decent. I’m hoping the next book ramps it up a bit.

📝 **Special Notes**
I do like the combination of the pantheons and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
This was an awesome read and I’m disappointed it is already over😂🖤

This was a quick read that I really enjoyed. I love books that include Hades in one way or another and this is one of those books.

Before starting this book I didn't realise that this was like a prequel to the upcoming series and it makes sense because this book, even tho it doesn't have a lot of pages, is a perfect series starter.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to see what happens next. Below I have listed TW's because I always try to put those in my reviews because, even tho I don't have any triggers, I know a lot of people have triggers.

I was blessed with receiving a PR box for Invitation to Hell.

Just finished and purchased book 2 right away, I cannot wait to continue this Mythological Greek adventure. I love books with Persephone, Hades, Loki and others.

Kali has lived a pretty normal life with her mother until she watched her Mother Murdered infront of her by a monster.
Living and growing up with her uncle, aunty and cousins, Kali has always felt loved but ridden by nightmares of a world that makes no sense to her. It must be the trauma from her mother’s death.
On her 21st Birthday her whole world is set to turn upside down and everything she’s ever believed be challenged.

Absolutely loved every minute of this book. Fast paced, full of adventure and amazing characters. Cannot wait to read book 2.

This was a really good start to Kali's journey in the underworld. I like how Amber mixes a few different religions/realms (Greek an North Mythology)

For me I thought it took a while to pick up pace but when it came to it, I really liked where it was heading. The story is original and love interest is deliciously possessive over Kali.
It's not a slow burn love but fated mates and the spice was very hot from the very beginning. Man oh man, she knows how to write some good spice. I don't want to spoil anything so I am going to keep it short and sweet.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one.

This is a new adult fantasy romance with tropes of hidden magic, the chosen one, and soulmates. There are some spicy scenes too!
This book was definitely enjoyable! The plot and world were super interesting and included references to Greek mythology. I also liked the strong female main character. I’m looking forward to seeing her continued growth in the series.
My biggest critique was that the world building and plot twists were rushed. I craved more descriptions of the actual events and of alternate characters’ backstories and motives. Especially, in the the second half of the book.
Overall, I liked this book and it gave me Crescent City vibes because it’s an urban, paranormal fantasy with a strong female MC and protective guardian male MC.

Invitation to Hell was a really good read wrapped up in a short book, with everything progressing rather quickly, even in the introductory chapter. The book featured a mix of mythologies, magic, lust, betrayal and a good amount of fighting. I enjoyed the story and characters, but didn't like how things were kept from Kali (they were basically gaslighting her). Even so, Kali was a badass and didn't let the newness of everything keep her from doing what she had to. A lot got wrapped up, but the epilogue leaves us with a cliffhanger and I need to know what's gonna happen! Looking forward to the next book's release next year so we can find out what's next.

This was a cute quick read. I really loved all the integration with all the different pantheons I think they worked well together in this story. I think this was a cute introduction to the Goddess of Death series, to get a feel for the characters, what the big bad is in the series. I liked that all the characters had their own little thing that set them apart from others like Phil being this boisterous happy go lucky guy and Mel being loving and caring mom, etc etc. I'm really interested to see how this plays out in the second book and interested to see Rhode and Eirene's stories.

I am a huge sucker for God and Goddess books! Especially when it comes to anything with Hades and Persephone! I went into this book not knowing what to exactly expect from it but thank Amber Bunch it was exactly what I needed! Once I started to get into the book I couldn’t put it down. Everything that happened in the book happened so fast and I just needed to know what was going to happen next.
