Book 2 in the d'Argent Honor series. d'Argent Honor...fine-tuned over a millennium to fight evil, its hunters are focused now on stopping an evil vampire in his mad quest for revenge on the d'Argent queen who refused his suit. In self-imposed seclusion for centuries, Stefan d'Argent emerges to join the hunt. His assignment: to seduce the Fox's next intended victim in order to protect her. When Stefan sees Julie Quill, touches her, makes love to her, he realizes he puts his own heart at risk. Vampire compulsion or lust at first sight Julie doesn't understand the immediate, irresistible desire Stefan generates in her, but that doesn't matter. She loves him, believes his incredible story...and wants to join him in his shadow world. One erotic bite...one slip into vampiric ecstasy could make it happen. But Stefan fears repeating the experience that sent him into seclusion centuries earlier, of killing the woman he loved while trying to convert her. A near-death experience tips the balance, giving him the courage to make her...eternally his.

Good ole fashion Good vs Evil with romance thrown in for good measure. Stefan has been reclusive to the vampire realm for a very long time. Only coming out once in a great while. Since that fateful night that changed him forever. His queen worries about him and because she doesn't want him hiding anymore, she decides it's time for him to move and hunt with some on his family. To find the made vampire called The Fox. But when he runs into The Fox's next victim, he is taken aback by her beauty and soul. But can he hold back his hunger long enough to get away from temptation, even if she should ask him for it?
Well, I wanted to like this book, I really did. The series has potential, but I can't get over the lack of anything with the characters. Our hero Stefan d'Argent, brother to young Claude of the first book, is wracked with guilt over killing an earlier lover centuries ago. And our heroine, mortal blondie Julie Quill, is persistently insistently hung up on being turned into a vampire. All this angst and a serial killer vampire is on the loose, too. Did I mention there's a dog named Noodles also? Poor thing...
Stephan was a vampire who had been sent to capture a vicious murderer named Louis Reynard who was also a vampire. Louis had twenty victims already . Louis and Stephan fought but Lewis bit Stephan as Stephan went for a stake, Stephan did use the stake but did not get in Louis’s heart to kill him so Louis got away. Stephan knew he should have listened to Alina and not came after Louis alone. Stephan checked and the woman was already dead. There was Louis’s calling card - a white rose. Stephan tracked Louis to the airport Louis was going to Chicago. Alina ordered Stephan to be prudent or Stephan would have staked Lewis at the airport no matter who was there. Alina ordered Stephan to come back to rest and get nourishment. Alina was the queen of the d’Argebt vampire clan. Louis had proposed and been rejected by Alina who was Stephan’s cousin. He then started the killings at the first day of every full moon for over a year and a half. There wasn’t anything Stephan wouldn’t do or give up for Alina or their clan. When Stephan was a youth he had a lover Tina and he drank too much from her and she died. Stephan would not turn her not even to save her life. Stephan was determined to mate a dhamper or another true vampire which is a vampire born as a vampire not made into a vampire. Now Alina received noted for Louis several days in advance naming the cities as well as the person’s name who would be his next victim. Stephan tracks :Louis next vicyim her name is Julia and eventually she has feelings for Stephan who tries to ignore them and the chemistry between them in order to keep her safe. I really loved this story. I loved the plot and writing. I Liked the good caring vampire against the evil vampire. I liked how Stephan tried to ignore his and Julia;s feelings so he could leep her safe. It was just a good read and I loved it. I also loved the ins and outs of this story especially the ones involving Stephan and Julia’ I highly recommend’ I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
I found myself skimming parts. There is far too much pondering in the minds of the characters. Some of the ponderings are about the past which tell the history rather than show it. There were a number of past history flashbacks done through telling and not showing. I would have preferred experiencing them. Other ponderings and conversations are repetitive, for example, Stefan repeatedly thinks about not letting himself turn Julie and that he plans to leave her. On a few occasions, some of the characters are thinking about what sex would be like, and the resulting sex scene is played out in their imagination. Not much seemed to be happening with the overall plot. This was no fun to read. It was not satisfying.
Story brief: This is the 2nd story in a series. Stories 1, 3 and 4 are in the anthology “Full Circle.” Alina is queen of the d’Argent vampire clan. Louis is from the Reynard clan and proposes to Alina. She refuses him. He is humiliated. As his revenge, he kills one human woman who looks like Alina every full moon. So far, he has killed 20 women. Stefan and two others from the D’Argent clan learn that Julie is Louis’ next target. They stay near Julie to protect her. In the process of protecting her, Stefan falls in love with her. She wants to become a vampire, but he is reluctant. The story includes body piercings, rear door activity, ménage a trios, and one scene with two guys.
Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: ten. Setting: current day Chicago and other places in the U.S. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

This was a really great second book for this series. It expanded on the ideas and premise established in the first book while retaining the separate story that it should be. For anyone who has read the first book and is reluctant or questioning whether this series is worth pursuing, I would tell you that it is. Ann Jacobs did a really good job of clarifying the questions that I had in the first book and realizing the potential that didn't quite make it in the first book. Stefan is hundreds of years old and he will not make the same mistakes that he has in the past. That ranges from conquering evil to avoiding beautiful women. He meets Julia, the next victim of a psychotic serial killing vampire and refuses to fall victim to her charm. Julia, for her part worries about Stefan, draws him and loves him but let's him take the lead in protecting her life. She hopes he will change his mind about them but must wait until he does to go any further. It was very nice to see Stefan happy after the stress on that in the first book. I have to say, this book was a little bit expected based on the trajectory of the first book. That said it is still worth reading and I enjoyed it. I look forward to reading the next book. I have no idea where it will go so that's exciting.
This is the second book in Hunting the Dark Lord Series. This book can be read as a standalone, but do recommend reading the first one so you can follow along with all the characters and what they fighting for. Stefan has seen many things in his long existence as a vampire. All the changes that has happen over hundreds of years. There are some things that do not change much is that there is some truly evil out there in the world. Stefan has fallen to many times for a beautiful face that has bought him a lot of pain in the past. Julia cannot have caught a break; she has caught the eye of killer vampire that will not stop until he has her. Julia develops feeling for Stephan and he tries very hard to block them, so he can protect her from this Evil Reynard. Will Stephan finally be able to claim his mate or let his fear overcome everything? Can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, Recommend this book and series today How would you describe the plot of this book? some twist Which of these words best describes the mood? Suspenseful How would you describe the pace? steady How would you describe the characters? developed * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review *

This book was a pleasant surprise, it was entertaining, had likeable characters and had much more plot than the first novel in the series. Vampire, Stephan D'Agent, is hunting the evil renegade vampire, Reynard, in order to stop his killing spree. Julie Quinn is set to be his next blonde victim and Stephan, along with the help of Claude and Alex, is determined to protect her. Stephan and Julie's attraction to one another is instantaneous and very steamy. You soon become attached to them, as the author has built some depth to the characters and their liaisons are sensual, as well as erotic. You also fall in love with Noodle, I mean, who doesn't love a cute little dachshund. The Fox (Reynard) is evil and you definitely want him dead, but I cann't help but feel a little sympathy for someone who must spend eternity as a eunuch! I received this book from Candid Book Reviews in exchange for an honest review.
Shadowing the Beast was an excellent second book in the series Hunting the Dark Lord. I think I might actually like this book more than I did the first one, which is rare, but it expands more on their history and had a good story line as well. This series is actually growing on me even more as it goes, and I really liked the first one.
Stefan d'Argent is a vampire with a tragic tale. While still young, he fell in love and tried to turn her, only to kill her. He never let himself love again because of it. While hunting Louis Reynard, a serial killer vampire, he meets and seduces one of Reynard's targets, only to be seduced himself.
Even thought I have not read the first in the series, this book was easy to get into. Will definitely go back and read the first one.
Great romance with vampires. He is a vampire that is out to stop an evil vampire that is killing women. When he meets the next victim he must save, he instantly falls for her and her for him. But can she get past that he is a vampire and that another vampire is out to kill her?
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I admit that I haven't read the first book in this series. But that didn't stop this book from being very easy to get into. It is a lot of fun. I will definitely be going back to read the first book and I hope that we will see a lot more coming from this series.
I was pleasantly surprised here. I've read a lot of paranormal romance and have learned to go into most of them with lowered expectations. I was so wrong here! This was fantastic! It hooked me from the very start and I finished it in under a day.
This series has such potential but just keeps falling flat for me. Struggle to like the characters internal monologue. Do like the HEA and saucy sex but story could be so much better
