Black Gold - Dallas Heat By Ann Jacobs Sometimes Moms know best, even if they are ghosts. Two meddlesome mamas scheme to get their much-loved but imperfect children together, and a chance meeting sends a wake-up call to the libidos of the dedicated doctor and the ex-almost Olympic swimmer. Two parts ghostly intervention, two parts strong wills, serve it up with a generous portion of steaming sex: a love arranged in heaven that really turns up the Dallas Heat.
First published in 1996, Jacobs has sold close to fifty books and novellas. SANDSTORMS was a 2007 nominee for the prestigious ROMANTIC TIMES Reviewers' Choice award for best erotic romance. Her books have earned awards including the Passionate Plume (best novella, 2006, second place contemporary, 2008), the Desert Rose (best hot and spicy romance, 2004) and More Than Magic (best erotic romance, 2004). She has been a double finalist in separate categories of the EPPIES and From the Heart RWA Chapter’s contest. Three of her books have been translated and sold in several European countries.
A CPA and former hospital financial manager, Jacobs now writes full-time, with the help of Mr. Blue, the family cat who sometimes likes to perch on the back of her desk chair and lend his sage advice. He sometimes even contributes a few random letters when he decides he wants to try out the keyboard. (Most of the time Blue just curls up, hides his eyes with his paws...and sleeps!)
Everyone has a past they feel they need to hide from, run from or clean up. And although Gayla Levine has been doing everything in her power to do all three at some point she is not being cut any slack. Life just seems to kick her in the stomach. Hers comes in the hatefulness of her father Dr. Eli Levine, the chief of surgery. Five years ago she did not make the Olympics, so her father and her fiancé disowned her. Her father only accepts perfection. On top of it all she ended up in the hospital where she miscarried, her wedding that was less than two weeks away was off and she learned she wasn’t good enough and he gave his loyalties to her ex-fiancé and his fair-haired resident. Neither wanted a loser. To help erase the memories and no family to stand by her she turned to drugs and alcohol. She made the slow hard climb back only to find her father blamed her for the heart attack she suffered as she was under so much stress. Now though she is clean and sober four years. She is coaching kids in swimming at one of the country clubs. To try and get them talking her mom has a package delivered to her place. She knows that Gayla has been taught not to delay in giving him mail or anything else. In turning a corner in the hospital she runs and I mean runs right into Dr. Dan Newman. He offers to be her personal guide for one knocking her over and two she doesn’t know where her father’s office is. Which he finds odd. He asks her out to dinner. She doesn’t say no she challenges him to a winner takes all event. She tells him to meet her at the country club. He says oh golfing she says no swimming. He thinks she’s being an ass like her dad when he realizes she doesn’t know or even notice his disability. So, he says okay. He can’t sleep even though he is dead tired after working and the gym. Just the thought of her knowing about his disability makes him nervous but he really liked her sass and she stirred his sexuality. That hasn’t happened in a long time. When he arrives they are both excited. When it’s time to get in the pool he removes his leg at least from his knee down. She was surprised but not at all put off and he liked that. She liked that he was only a few arm lengths behind her in the swim race. From that moment on their instant attraction and sexual charge grew large and fast. They were alike when most couples shouldn’t have been. Track this relationship and the many new friendships that allows Gayla to find her own self-worth and the love of a good man. I really like this book in series. It mostly was about people's struggles in life and overcoming them. Whether they are physical emotional or family holding u back making u think ur not good enough. Really good happy end and funny. Loved when dan fell out of bed because he forgot about his leg. I liked that this book concentrated on dan and his team he works with. I do think frank n Michelle story sound very much like the storyline from mutual favours but Jacobs doesn't go into to much detail with them. Glad old faces from earlier books were in story.
This story kept me turning the pages. Gayla is unsure of her worth because of her past. Dan feels an instant attraction and slowly helps her move beyond her fears. Admitting their feelings for each other is not the issue. Accepting a future together is something else. I enjoyed this story and recommend it.
Book 4 in ‘The Oil Barons Series” is another heartfelt romance as the best angel with broken wings meets her guardian, savior and her salvation.
World-class surgeon Dan Newman falls hard for the Texas beauty Gayla Levine in Ann Jacob’s “Rescuing An Angel”. Dan overcomes a crippling trauma and puts his energy in saving and giving a new lease of life to the broken and true to his nature, he literally steamrolls into Gayla to be her savior and partner.
Gayla Levine has been to the ends of the earth and back, struggling with a relationship broken, dreams unfulfilled and a father who disowns her. Yet she fights hard to make a career out of her broken dreams, helps people build their strength and confidence, and all the time she draws her courage from the support and love of Dan.
This is truly an emotional story of a fallen angel, building her identity, trying to mend bridges with little hope and struggling to accept that true love does exit and it can be unconditional. I like Ann Jacobs more and more, as I read her books more often. She’s given Dan and Gayla strong personalities and their characterization is true to form. It’s wonderful to visit with characters from her previous books.

After a very trying surgery Dan Newman, surgeon, literally bowled over Gayla Levin in the hospital hallway. All Gayla wanted to do was deliver an envelope to her estranged domineering father Dr. Eli Levine; she is not happy to find herself laying on the floor. Dan was immediately attracted to Gayle. Gayle thinks all doctors have a “God complex” but still the attraction hits her.
Dan has a physical handicap, so much so, Dr Levine tried to persuade him not to become a surgeon. Gayle’s handicap is not physical but emotional and mental. Dan has overcome his handicap but just as in life, Dan is thrown a curse ball to overcome. Gayle picked herself up out of the bottle and pills to try to redeem her life, to make a difference in others lives, Dan can give the support she needs. Mrs. Jacobs portrayed the sexual tension, frustration, and family discord very well. The attraction between Dan and Gayle was fire hot. Their thoughts about each both could melt cold steel. The love scenes burn up the pages.
The plot moves along well and kept me interested. We watch Dan and Gayle overcome adversities and accepting of what life handed them. I would recommend this book for adult only due to the sexual content.

Rescuing an Angel (The Oil Barons #4) by Ann Jacobs
Reviewed for Candid Book Reviews
Rescuing an Angel is a story of courage, inner strength and acceptance. This was my favorite story out of the entire Oil Barons Series. Gayla has been beating herself up for years with guilt, self-doubt, regret and heartache over one moment that lead her down a treacherous path. Having finally found the peace of mind to forgive herself for something that was not her fault and move on with her life after years of anger and self-abuse was a remarkable feat. Dan is someone who has a good heart but has had to push himself harder than others because of his own physical struggles. Dan and Gayla found each other at the right time. They needed something to believe in and someone to believe in them. There are not many times when I get angry while reading a story but this one had me that way. Ann Jacobs did a wonderful job of showing the ugliness of self-absorbed idiots that believe themselves superior to a that is weaker. It galled me that Gayla did her best and when she needed the people she counted on most to stand behind her, encourage her and guide her they threw her out like yesterdays's trash. That is what lead her down the path she took but it also made her a better person. Dan traveled a hard road but it was one of self-discovery that proved rewarding.
Many people struggle with addiction and then the life long process of recovery; but actually convincing yourself that you are worthy of forgiveness can be the hardest challenge of all.
So after having been told by the person who’s pardon she craves the most that she is unworthy of absolution or affection in any form, it’s no wonder that Gayla is terrified to believe someone could actually love her.
Dan has learnt the hard way that perfection is a fallacy, and that what you see is not always what you get. But when he literally runs into Gayla, he is smitten with her sassy attitude and indifference to his obvious interest.
What follows in a powerful story of a young woman’s battle for acceptance, her years of emotional punishment and a love so pure that your heart will sing.
Ms Jacobs Oil Barons just keep getting better with each book.
A banished daughter, rehabilitation, and a second chance at happiness if she will only see it. Gayla has been banished from the family due to bad choices she had made in the past. Not being sober and drug from for few years, she tries to reconcile with her dad. It's a no go. So she tries to move on. When in the hospital her dad works at to drop a packet off to him, she gets knocked down by a really hunky Doctor. And sparks fly literally. Dan has had a kinda rough day till he ran into a beautiful woman and knocking her off her feet literally. After begging for a date with her. He feels happy and hopes for the best for he has a secret too. And he hopes his won't turn her off from him. And vise versa. Will they give each other a chance? Or will old hatred rear its ugly head and try to keep them apart?

Book 4 in The Oil Baron series and I really enjoyed this heartfelt romance. Dan who is a handicapped doctor was a child amputee, Gayla who comes with emotional baggage, past addictions to overcome and fight against. The story held me captive and glued to my kindle. The characters were well developed and I was emotional attached from the start. The story was smooth and well written and easy to read. I love how the author wove all the pieces together in the final chapters so give them their HEA.
Received the book for an honest review. Book four of the Oil Baron series is full of hope and second chances. Dan Newman was a child amputee who didn't let his handicap stand in his way of becoming a world class surgeon. Gayla Levine who for the past four years has tried to overcome alcohol and drug abuse because she couldn't measure up to daddy's expectations. Together they find acceptable, understanding, love and hope. Very well written with an emotional rollercoaster you don't want to ever get off.
For me this was a disappointment even though it was a fast read. I am not really sure what made this not a good read for me. I know that right off the bat I did not care for Gayla; early in the book she came across as rude and biased that all doctors were going to be like her father. Dan seemed almost too good to be true; too pushy with his first encounter with Gayla and the who,e story line with the ghosts of their mothers? Just didn't work for me.
This is a good story for those who enjoy reading about reachable characters. Story about a physically wounded man and a woman who feel broken beyond repair. Will they overcome their problems or will they lets their hurt keep them apart. Although to me the book seemed a little slow it was still a good short read that I would recommend to a friend.
Out of all in the series, this one was my favorite. Both Dan and Gayla are broken in their own way, but Gayla is not wanting another relationship. Dan is determined and very convincing (wink, wink). But will Gayla's father is making things difficult. Will they let their past ruin any future they have? I enjoyed the emotion put into the novel as well as the storyline.
This is a really good read. I have never read Ann Jacobs and will look up more of her books. The story is well written and is in depth, keeps you interested and turning the pages. It is a realistic story and seems like your watching friends struggle with life.
