Lawyers in Love 1 - In His Own Defense

Truths come not only in black and white, but in shades of gray. A young prosecutor from a background of wealth and privilege, determined to put criminals behind bars, clashes with a brilliant defense counselor soaring to fame and fortune from the depths of poverty and degeneracy. A woman tortured by her past and a man driven by his history-neither can deny their fierce attraction, but both fear the outcome of their passionate affair. For Tony to win his heart's desire, he'll have to make the most compelling argument of his career-to Kristine, in his own defense.

Lawyers in Love 2- Bittersweet Homecoming

One hot weekend eight years ago was all they had before Gray was captured on assignment and presumed dead. Andi moved on, made a good life for herself and their son, until Gray returned, a battered warrior but still the powerful dominant who'd spoiled her for other lovers. Gray wants Andi desperately, but he dares not love her until she teaches him it's his mind and heart-not a perfect body-that makes him her perfect mate.

The Defenders: A Two Book Box Set (Courthouse Connections 2)
By Ann Jacobs
Reviewed by Terri Parks Allen

The Defenders, men who believe, as is provided for in the United States Constitution, that all those accused of crimes are entitled to competent defense in a court of law . . .

Tony Landry, born in poverty and driven by his family history, has achieved amazing success as a defense counselor through no one’s efforts but his own. Newly made a partner in the prestigious Winston-Roe firm, he fully believes that truths come not in black and white but in shades of gray. He clashes with Kristine Granger, a young prosecutor from a background of wealth and privilege, who is fully convinced that there are no shades of right and wrong. Despite the fierce attraction neither can deny, Tony must make the argument of his life to win Kristine’s heart—IN HIS OWN DEFENSE.

Gray Syzmanski, one of Tampa’s elite, grandson of the founding partner of Winston-Roe, chose the DEA instead of a position with the law firm, only to go through hell. Eight years later he returns to what is at best a BITTERSWEET HOMECOMING—and the job he refused before his ordeal. Andi Young, a prosecutor he had a brief liaison with before his ordeal, is still there and miraculously still wants him. The young couple who felt MORE THAN LUST but had no opportunity to explore their feelings then, now have a chance to have it all—if only Gray can accept that it’s his mind and heart, not a perfect body—that makes him her perfect mate.

The first book in this boxed set is In His Own Defense....Tony & Kristine.....Very good characters and romance & a bit steamy. I highly recommend!

The second book in this boxed set is Bittersweet Homecoming is 8 years later with Gray & Andi from More Than Lust. The emotional twists of this couple to overcome is so very moving and real. Gray finding out that he is a father after the hell he has been through since he has seen Andi is very touching. Andi is such a mentally and strong woman. Amazing! I highly recommend reading.

Laws were put in place to make sure that everyone is provided the opportunity for some type of defense in a court of law. Guilty or innocent, each situation should be given the same quality of defense proven without a reasonable doubt. In both the stories our characters are on opposite sides, the women are prosecutors and the men on the defense. Its kind of ironic how that works almost like real life. Both stories were well written and easy to follow. The characters were well developed, easy to like and easy to relate too. The fast paced storyline is engaging and keeps your attention to the very end. IN HIS OWN DEFENSE had both Tony and Kristine presenting valid and enlightening arguments about both sides of the legal services. I enjoyed their discussions about the why and why not and could easily see both sides of the coin. In BITTERSWEET HOMECOMING, we once again see Grey and Andi from book one MORE THAN LUST. I found this to be much more emotional as they struggled to hold on to the relationship they had been developing after an 8 year separation. Their journey back to each other is a difficult experience and you can't help but want to see them find a HEA. This is a great series with a interesting characters and situations. I look forward to revisiting the characters I have grown fond of in the future writing of Ms. Jacobs.
I was given the book in exchange for a honest review

The Defenders is a two book set about lawyers.
In book one In His Own Defense ww are introduced to Kristine from the district attorney's office and Tony the defense attorney. They are on opposites sides for their own reasons. Their attraction starts in the courtroom and continues out side of the courtroom. There is a great story line that keep you interested.

Book two is Bittersweet Homecomings. This book is a continuation but instead of it focusing on Tony and Kristine it involve Andi, Kristines friend from the district attorney's office and Gray. Years ago Andi and Gray shared a weekend in which she became pregnant for eight years she believed Gray was dead and raised their son on his own. Gray was called to a DEA job and was not heard from in 8 years. He was kidnapped and tortured. When Andi finds out he is back she has many decisions to make on whether to tell him about his son and where life will go from her.
I loved both books. It reads very quickly. Even though they were two different stories they intertwined together.

Book1: I wasn't a fan of Tony cos he defended criminals but as the story went on u actually warm up to him. The story does get a little long winded but the ending improves greatly. Really good HEA.
Book2: This second L.I.L book got mixed but mostly bad reviews but I actually enjoyed it. Gray comes back after 8yrs in hell being tortured daily resulting in huge scaring on this face back and chest. He's missing one eye which he wear an eye patch cos scaring is so bad their and he missing a leg below knee and when trying to walk without wheelchair he has to wear hear duty braces and relies heavily on crutches. He's in constant pain and has terrible cramp. When Andi shows up explaining their 8yr son Brett, Gray is excited at the prospect of being a father. Gray has a lot of ups and down and huge self doubt in his ability's as a lover and father. I really enjoyed the changes in him through book with Andi help and the great HEA that follows.

The Defenders series box set starts with Tony and Kristine's story. Tony's life did not start out happy and carefree. Kristine came from a prominent family with a sad ending. Life brings these two together on opposites sides. Can they find a way to make it work?
One steamy weekend is all Gray and Andi have when Gray leaves for a DEA job. He leaves Andi behind with an unexpected pregnancy. Told that Gray had died on the mission, Andi try's to connect with his controlling mother but she rejects her and the baby. Flash forward eight years and some how Gray survived but comes home damaged, physically and mentally. Can they overcame the obstacles to come together as a family?
Both stories are well written and the characters are all lovable. Looking forward to the next box set.

The blurb here on Goodreads is for the first story in this anthology, but the second story is the one that really shines. Andi & Gray had one hot weekend before he was sent on assignment for the DEA. He promises to call her when he gets back, but then he's captured and presumed dead. Eight years later he's back - physically and emotionally changed.

If you like damaged, vulnerable heroes and women who love them no matter what, you'll love this book. It's sexy and full of compassion and lots of genuine love and affection.
