A fairly dense book, but great for emerging readers. I would not recommend this to a kid who needs to do a report on the solar system. The information is dense, but concise and lends itself to plagiarism because most kids at this age haven't really mastered paraphrasing and re-wording. However, for a kid who is showing interest in the solar system in general, this is great.

This book gives a ton of facts about the solar system. Vogt begins by writing about the sun, continues through the nine planets (it is older and therefore count Pluto as a planet), asteroids, comets, and exploring space. At the end, it also contains a glossary of words that may be unknown to most kids.

This book presented a ton of facts and would, therefore, be a great book for research. However, the paragraphs in this book are full of choppy sentences. This choppiness makes it hard to read smoothly.

This book would be a good non-fiction resource for a classroom. It would make a great book for children doing a research project or children who are really into space.

This is a great book for older preschoolers and younger grade-schoolers who are interested in outer space. Vogt's writing is easy for young children to understand but it is never condescending. He seems to have a knack for predicting what questions a child might ask about a particular planet. He even covers the Pluto controversy.

This is a great nonfiction book for readers 6-8 years old. This book has new information about our solar system including the demotion of Pluto as a planet. This book has great pictures and the text is very easy to understand. This is a great science book for young readers and I highly recommend it to parents as well.

This is a good science book about the solar system. Students can pick a planet and dive into it as a project. Then while students present their projects, as groups or individuals, the class can use this as their notes instead of the teacher lecturing the whole time. You can always jump in in case the students forget any information.

This is a level 2 reader. A good introduction to the planets for young readers.

Bought this at a library book sale. My son loves space-themed books, so we picked it up. He's a toddler, so we look at the pictures and talk about the planets.
