His fingers tangled in her hair. He jerked her head back, the pain making her eyes water. Her teeth tore free of his flesh and her skin tingled where his blood trickled down her chin.
Teeth bared in a feral snarl, he held her at arm's length. His chest rose and fell. His eyes narrowed to slits.
Gone was the good humor and the bad-boy grin. Here was a beast, a warrior, a predator who was used to being at the top of the food chain.
And she'd just taken a bite out of that.
"What the f*ck?" he snarled.

Recap with added info:

"Did you just feed from me?" he asked, his voice low and flat. Dangerous. The calm before the storm. "Didn't anyone ever teach you manners? Wait until you're invited before you eat."
With her gaze locked on his, she dragged the back of her hand across her lips, then licked his blood slowly from her skin. Waste not, want not.

Calliope Kane (aka Calli) is a daughter of Aset, a highly skilled, prescient, and resourceful warrior with a quick mind (and the wits to match), and a woman who lived through a devastating nightmare which left her with a very personal, deep and abiding hatred for soul reapers. This, of course, becomes an unwanted, albeit sometimes confusing, complication when she finds herself inexplicably drawn to one who is far too charismatic, charming, and sexy for her own good. Or so she believes...

Crimson drops dripped off the edge of his fist. He thought of the way she'd licked his blood from the back of her hand. And why the f*ck that made him feel the first stirrings of a hard-on, he had no idea.
Maybe because she was one hell of an adrenaline high.
Looked like this wasn't his week when it came to the ladies. He kept getting left behind high and dry.

Malthus Krayl (aka Mal) is a soul reaper who doesn't hesitate to embrace adventure or the pursuit of pleasure. He takes life as it comes, lives by his own code, and has a definite appreciation for the ladies which gets him into some hot water along the way (Fire genies get rather heated when you don't call again. Hell hath no fury and all that kind o' thing...). Unfortunately, like his brothers, he is grieving the mysterious murder of his brother, Lokan, and determined to unearth the clues that will lead to finding his killers.

"After you," he said.
The corner of her mouth tipped up in the faintest hint of a smile. One that promised retribution and more of his blood.
And damn if the sight of it didn't make him want to grin in return. This girl was danger wrapped in one hell of a pretty package. He had every intention of hanging on for the ride.

When life first puts him into a rather sexy situation with Calli (who is wearing a disguise for... reasons), he has no idea who she is, or why she suddenly bolts (as though her ass is on fire) just as they're about to take things up a serious notch. When he runs into her again (he doesn't recognize her), they're both on a mission to obtain a certain 'package' and a rather intriguing battle ensues (which includes words, wits, teeth, and a sword) in which Calliope both stuns and pisses him off in the most fascinating way.

Like this reader, Mal can't help but admire how she 'handles' him, a powerful immortal being who is in fact the son of Sutekh (Lord of the Underworld) and incredibly (even fatally) dangerous, when provoked. Him being the winner of that particular conflict should have been (and normally would be) a foregone conclusion. Yet she outwits him, leaves him wounded, and more than determined to go after her when she escapes action movie style. And that, of course, turns this bad boy on...

He clamped his hand on her upper arm, enjoying the flare of anger that turned her eyes from cat green to darkest jade. He'd like to see her eyes change color while she was under him, or over him, or up against a wall, naked and wild.
And he had a feeling she would be wild, once he stripped away the heavy layers of her control.
He blinked as the thought hit him with a feeling of déjà vu. Like he'd had her under him or over him. But he'd remember those eyes if he'd seen them before...

Calli and Mal have some definite chemistry and while she's grappling with this attraction (for someone she believes she should despise) while trying to fulfill her obligations, he finds himself going after her and doing everything in his power to protect and know her better. This puzzles him because he's not the altruistic sort by any means nor does he usually seek anything serious in his relationships with women. But with Calli? It's different. Plus, on top of that, an unusual bond has formed between them (because of... reasons) that potentially threatens the security of the Asetian Guard, Calli's role within it, and her standing with the Matriarchs. At the same time, this bond also has the ability to shed some necessary light on a secret/misunderstanding that has been hidden for far too long...

"Why?" she whispered.
Why put yourself in harm's way and let me escape with your prize? Why come after me? Why be kind to me? Those questions and so many more, but all she could manage was that single word.
He stared at her and then finally lowered his head until his forehead rested against hers, their breath mingling.
"F*cked if I know," he said. He shrugged. "I think I like you, Calliope Kane."
Off balance, she reached for the calm of her soul. She wanted the safe shroud of her control. But it was nowhere to be found.
Because that kiss and his words sliced her open and left her exposed to the bone.

***

"I am not without skill. I will know when they come. I will stay a step ahead of them as long as I can." She shrugged. "But eventually they will find me. I will fight. I will win - " she cut him a sidelong glance, "- because I am good at what I do. At some point, they will send someone better, someone I cannot escape, and then I will no longer be free. Perhaps I will no longer be alive."
"You say that like you don't care." He stepped toward her, his expression fierce.
She stared at him, stunned by his intensity, and whispered, "You say that like you do."
"Of course I do. Have you been listening to anything I've said?" He prowled closer still, until he was there right next to her, the heat of his body crossing the narrowing span of air between them. "Did you think I chased you to some f*cking mountaintop dungeon because I had nothing better to do?"

This third book in the Sins Series has romance, action, humor, great characters, and comes with some of the answers we've been waiting for, even as it raises further questions. It also comes with a major revelation that rocks everyone's foundations right down to the core...

(And nope. Uh uh. I'm not telling. Nice try though.)

His embrace was so tight she could barely breathe.
"I love you, Calli. Prophecy or not. Fate or not. I love you and I'm not going to give you up."
He said it like a challenge as if he thought she would argue.
"I love you, Malthus Krayl."

Heads up: I received an Arc for Sins of the Flesh in exchange for an honest review!

Finally finished another amazing book in the month of April. I loved this book so much, it is the third book in the Otherkin series. This series is so unique and interesting, I feel like everyone should read it. The world is so different and the characters are so strong and outgoing. Whenever I read about a new character that I like, I feel afraid because of the pain that they might go through in the book.

If you haven't heard about this series, it is about the Underworld Lord's sons Dagan, Alastor and Malthus who's brother was murdered. In order to find the people responsible for their brother's murder, the three siblings work together. Along the way, they all meet feisty heroines who are strong and unique. As they dive deeper into their brother's past and unravel secrets, they are led to an unexpected turn.

I read this book in one sitting because it was amazing. I feel like I didn't summarize this book properly due to the fact that it is the third book in the series. From what I can actually say, this book is just as great as the first two books. I feel like out of the whole series so far, my ranking would be the first book, the third book and then the second book. It is probably because there were parts in the second book that were very similar to the first book and I didn't connect to the characters as much.

The characters in this book are amazing. I love how we still get to see the characters from the different books because of how they are all connected. I really loved Mal and his personality. He is so quirky and funny, I couldn't help but smile when I see his name on the page.

Callie is another amazing character and I loved reading more about her. When I read about her in the other books in this series, I was curious about her character and wanted to learn more. I am glad that this book had more of Callie and more about her past. I loved seeing Dagan, Alastor, Roxy and Naphre, they are amazing. It's nice to see everyone working together and having a good understanding for one another.

The connections and bonds between the characters are another reason of why I enjoyed this book so much. It is so nice to see how the characters genuinely feel for one another. If a character is in danger, I feel relieved when someone else comes to save them. Whenever the female characters stand up for themselves and are confident, I find it to be very inspiring.

I can't wait to read more of this series, it's so intriguing and the writing style is beautiful. I went through so much feels while reading this and it felt good to feel like that again. I don't have many days when I can read peacefully without interruptions and I am glad that I got to read this in one sitting. It was nice to finally enjoy something to the full extent.

I highly recommend this series, if you haven't picked it up already. I have two reviews up for the first and second book, if you want to see that. Anyway, I'll be off again, I started watching Thirteen Reasons Why and it's amazing!

Malthus Krayl is intent on discovering the truth behind the heinous murder of his brother and will let nothing stand in his way until he encounters Calliope Kane, a sworn enemy who tempts him beyond reason. As a Daughter of Aset, Calli has an intense personal and professional hatred of Soul Reapers and is particularly unnerved when she finds herself inexplicably drawn to one. Mal and Calli must learn to trust their feelings before the traitors in their midst get the better of them both.

Note: This review has been updated following Eve Silver's re-release of the book with a new cover, edited content and added material. An advance copy of the new release was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This series just gets better and better.

The villain behind the conspiracy is finally revealed, and it is quite a revelation even though it is possible to figure it out toward the end. Nevertheless, there are still several questions that remain unanswered, but these will be ultimately be answered in the final installment.

Mal and Calli are definitely the best of the three couples so far. Their intense chemistry and battle of wills are gripping from the first moment and even though there are serious obstacles to their relationship, they are resolved in a believable manner (if a tad too quickly) and there isn't the excessive angst that characterizes Naphre and Alastor's romance.

Calliope is a wonderful character. Her wit, intelligence and determination as well as the fact that she kicks butt and stands her ground against an immortal Soul Reaper make her a particularly appealing heroine. Mal, the “bad boy” brother has his own brand of ethics and is not above taking what he wants when he wants it. His seize the moment approach to life very refreshing.

Silver's writing has improved in the revised versions of the series, and the plot, which has always been complex and intriguing, gets a few more twists and turns. The revision of the last book will be released very soon and I'm looking forward to my re-read.

I am so glad I stuck with this series! These books just keep getting better and better. Mal, Alastor and Dagan still haven't solved the mystery of their brother Lokan's death. Alastor and Dagan are each mated to a Daughter of Aset. And now, it's Mal's turn.

Calliope has no idea who or what Mal is when she approaches him in a bar. She only knows that she needs to feed from the energy of a man and she'd rather use sex than blood to get her fill. Since Mal is essentially sex on a stick, he seems a perfect candidate. The two are already starting to get down to business when she finally gets a sense that he is more than human. She can't get away fast enough.

Their paths cross again when they both go after the same witness to Lokan's murder. (Mal doesn't recognize her at first, since she is no longer wearing the disguise she had on at the bar.) The two of them face off, each trying to get custody of the man. And in the heat of battle, Calliope bites Mal, which not only amps up her strength but ends up creating a tasty bond between them.

Neither one of these two wants to fall in love. Mal is a man-whore. Who wants to give that up? And Calliope is a control freak, who is unerringly loyal to the Daughters of Aset. But it was hard enough for them to ignore their attraction before the blood-tie. After the bite, they are fighting a lost cause. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship and I really, really enjoyed the sex. Rraw.

A good thing about this series is that each books builds on the one before. And FINALLY we find out who is behind Lokan's death and why. I can't say I was really surprised. (I has my suspicions beginning in the last book.) But nevertheless, it was a pretty great moment when we reached the climax at the end. Hot damn!

A little more than 4 stars.

In Sins of the Flesh it's final Soul Reaper son of Sektet Mal's turn to take a stab at solving the mystery behind the brutal - and supposedly impossible - death of his brother Lokan. While hunting for clues Mal vies with Calliope Kane to gain possesion of a man who may have the answers Mal seeks and the answers the daughter of Asset seek to surpress. Calliope's hatred of Soul Reapers is much more than the bad blood between their patron gods - Callipoe's reasons are far more personal. As adversaries, Calliope and Mal come together with violence - both are smart, deadly and determined - and though Calliope gets the best of their first fight, Mal just treats her vicious treatment of him as foreplay. But because of Calliope's past, her initial interactions with Mal took enemy lovers theme to almost defcon level making it hard to transition from Calliope's initial enmity to love when the romance had to give way to the main story pieces needed to solve the murder, past pair cameos, and the big reveal of who dunnit and why.

While Sins of the Flesh does finish off the mystery, when I read the last few pages I was not sure whether this was the final book in the series - it didn't seem like it should be but I had heard that this was a trilogy. My confusion was cleared up by checking out Silver's website, there are two more Otherkin books coming in 2011. Good news. I have really been enjoying Silver's Otherkin series, I love that the heroines of these books are as dangerous as the heroes and I have been fascinated by the bits of death myths from various cultures that Silver has woven into the story and will definitely be on the lookout for Silver's next offerings.

Buona lettura.

Re-read, originally read years ago but no review.

I wish GR had a half star option. This isn't quite a four but better than a three. I'm having a lot of trouble finding my fave trope of angst ridden, cheaty, ahole Hero kinda book, so I'm re reading ones that I liked. This has been re written and tightened up, so I need to download the new ebook in kindle and get the revised edition. Even having said that, this is a good gods of the underworld ~Egyptian mythological ~ demon ~ fantasy ~ pnr ~ kinda book. Strong, but not TSTL heroine, sexy, strong hero with a filthy mouth during sex. Not too much sex to make it stupid, the sexy times happen more at the end. Well written series, although I'm hoping the re write helps with the pacing of the story.

Next up: a re read The Heart Breaker ~ love the dead ex, angsty trope. This one I've been saving for a really good hit of a super, duper, d!ck hero! Yea!!!

This is book three of the Otherkin trilogy. If I am not mistaken, book three of a trilogy means 'its a wrap'. Not the case here. Although I love Ms. Silver's writing (for the most part) and the story concept, I am very disappointed in the ending.

The main characters -- Mal and Calliope were introduced in the first book. They hooked up in this book pretty much following the same script as the previous books. I simplify but basically it was a template that worked well through three books. Ms. Silver did an excellent job of letting us see into the hearts and minds of each character she introduced. Although I did not like Calliope's character, I wanted to see her with Mal. They were a good fit as were the other mated brothers from book one and two.

All three books focus on finding the body and soul of their murdered brother Loken. In their reality, Loken's soul could be reunited with his dismembered body and reanimated. That was the objective. How that works out would be a spoiler, so I stop here. There is also the mystery of who was powerful enough to murder the immortal Loken. This question was answered, made sense, and was pretty much obvious. I was happy with the series until the very last 10 pages, when everything stated to move at warp speed then resolved with a cliffhanger. Yeah, I am going there. The mystery was resolved but the story was not. Despite my disappointment, I will read the next installment because I have to know what happens next and because Ms. Silver kept me engaged and entertained. A clean ending would have earned it another star from me but apparently endings are not in style anymore so I am going to rate what I have to work with.

DNF. I bought this on sale at audible months ago not realizing it was book 3 in a series that MUST be read in order. After about 10% into this one I was so lost. I may pick up the first two some day if they ever make the sale, but what I listened to didn't exactly peek my interest anyway.

Malthus Krayl is one of four sons of Sutekh. Sutekh is also known as Seth, Seteh and even Lord of Evil. He is described as the Underworld überlord of chaos. Mal and his brothers are soul reapers, well, his 2 other brothers Dagan and Alastor are because they are still alive. His 3rd brother Lokan was skinned and butchered, beginning the Otherkin trilogy with Sins of the Heart. In Sins of the Flesh, Dagan, Alastor and Mal continue their search to find out the Who, How, and Why of Lokan’s murder and to seek revenge. Caliope Kane is part of the Asetian Guard and a Daughter of Aset, sworn enemy of Sutekh. Thousands of years ago Sutekh hacked Aset’s husband, Osiris, into fourteen pieces – seven for each of the two regions of Egypt. As you can imagine, the hatred and tension between the two Egyptian Gods and their followers has manifested and grown all the way to present day. Mal and Caliope meet while on a similar mission, intending to kidnap the same person, but for opposing teams (Son of Sutekh versus Daughter of Aset). The result of this meeting is nothing short of explosive.

Sins of the Flesh is the third book in Eve Silver’s Otherkin trilogy, and it is quite possibly my favorite of the three. The trilogy itself is heavily based on Egyptian mythology which already appealed to me before picking it up and succeeded in keeping me glued to the pages. As with the previous two books, Ms. Silver uses quotes from The Egyptian Book of the Dead at each chapter, and it gives the story such a nice extra boost of authenticity to the fantasy. There is Egyptian myth and gods galore, with appearances by Horus and Anubis, to name a few. The journey takes us to Egypt and the River Styx, and the action and suspense never let up providing a highly entertaining ride. In addition, the love story simmers and slowly builds at a comfortable pace and it results in a hot romance. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Caliope as the heroine of this novel, as we’d met her previously as Roxy’s mentor in the Asetian Guard. I am not usually a fan of a love story in which the heroine already has a major “hate-on” for the hero’s species (in this case the soul reapers – mortal enemy to her kind) and boy does Caliope have a huge one. To my pleasant surprise, I thought Caliope was so awesome. She was this cold, calculating, balls-out fighter with a strong sense of character who completely throws Mal for a loop (and beats his ass). And he eats it up with relish…

She’d stabbed him. She’d fucking pinned him to the wall like a bug. She’d fed from him and used his own blood and power against him. He hadn’t seen that coming. He was both affronted by-and admiring of-her resourcefulness. Calliope Kane had brass ones the size of cantaloupes. – pg 69

In summary, this book was so damn good! It was one of those where you get to the final paragraph on the last page and you do a fist pump, happy with the way it ended. Yet at the same time you can’t wait to find out what happens next! I had no idea how the end of the trilogy was going to play out, where the betrayal truly lied, who really was responsible for murdering Lokan Kray. We get closure and finally find out who dunnit, but there are new events that arise giving us more for future novels. Fortunately, even though this is a trilogy in the sense that the overall arc is resolved by the end of this book, there IS a fourth book coming out called Body of Sin! Here is the Otherkin trilogy reading order for your convenience. Pick this series up, people. It’s a striking and unique take on Paranormal Romance!

Its been very interesting getting to know each of the Krayl brothers and watching them fall in love one by one with woman who are suppose to be their enemies. I think I’ve said this before, but I love how even though the outcome of each book in this series is essentially the same regarding the boys and their love lives, I like that Eve Silver uses a different approach and puts the boys on different paths to get them to that point.

Malthus Krayl, a.k.a Mal is the third youngest of the Krayl brothers and the only one who doesn’t believe that their slain brother Lokan can be brought back to life. Just like Dagan and Alastor though, he’s doing everything in his power to find out who is responsible for the impossible death of his brother because vengeance is the next best thing to getting his brother back for him. On one of his trips to find out more information he runs into Roxy’s old mentor Calliope and as expected, things get a little bit hot.

I think one of the reasons I’ve been enjoying these books so much despite the very intense, animalistic and possessive nature of the Krayl brothers when it comes to their woman, is because they’re not good people! Their very existence is predicated on harvesting the hearts and dark souls of humans to feed to their father. So when they get all caveman and fall so hard so quickly for these amazing badass women, I’m okay with it!

Now....I’m rating this book a little bit lower than the previous ones because Mal and Calliopes “pairing” was a little bit on the awkward side. Calliope went through something truly traumatic as a young girl and has grown up despising the very existence of soul reapers because of it. So when she meets Mal and sparks start to fly, she of course gets confused and feels guilty and ashamed of some of the feelings he’s causing her to have.

Now I’m a firm believer that a woman is allowed to and justified in ALL of her feelings. So even though I KNEW Calliope was feeling Mal and liked him, I couldn’t fully get behind or be comfortable with Mals innuendos or advances because the vibe she was giving him wasn’t a welcoming one. It was kind of weird because one chapter would be in Calliopes POV about how Mal was so gorgeous and she didn’t understand the feelings she was feeling and how she just wanted to kiss him. And then the next chapter would be from Mals POV about how Calliope gave nothing away and was just stoic and even though I KNEW what was going through her mind at that exact moment, I couldn’t help saying “MAL, LEAVE HER ALONE! SHE DON’T WANT YOU!” Lol.

Anyway...the point of all that is, because Calliope kept herself so closed off and fought until the very end to give into her feelings, which she has EVERY right to do, I couldn’t really let my guard down and relax and just enjoy the book because I was always worried and tense wondering how everything was going to play out.

Besides all of the relationship drama, there has FINALLY been some progress in the overall story arc of this series and the cat is out of the BAG! I loved it...I’ve been wondering this entire time how the pairing of two, now THREE Krayl brothers with their sworn enemy was going to work out and what it all meant in the grander scheme of things. But I would have never imagined the things that were revealed in this book. All I can say is. DAMN.

The next and final book in this series is going to be about Lokan and his journey in purgatory. I’m super excited because even though as a reader you never meet him, you grow to love him through the other Krayl brothers and I just want him to be OKAY!

I love Eve Silver!

My favorite story as I loved Mal the best of the 3 brothers from the very beginning... However it is also my least favorite couple pairing which takes away some of the enjoyment.... Mal Krayl wants the world to see him as someone who only wants a good time, what he does not want is for anyone to see past that shield he has erected to keep himself from emotional pain! Having lost his "love hundreds of years ago he has since then connected only physically and never emotionally with his bed partners.... Calliope Kane is a high level guard in the Daughters of Aset who has no love whatsoever for Soul Reapers as they butchered her family in front of her eyes as a child....
Once again we return to the mystery that is ongoing while the brothers try to find their youngest sibling Lokan so he can be brought back from death. Doing this will solve the identity of his murderers once he is brought back to life and can point them out! What started out slowly in Sins of the Heart and continues in Sins of the Soul just got better and better the deeper the reader gets in book #3 Sins of the Flesh !
Calliope and Mal are working against each other to find and take the one person who is the only lead found to Lokan's death... When they finally clash with each other in this endeavor the sparks fly from more than their differences of opinion! This attraction between the two for me was not one I welcomed, the very first thing Calliope does upon encountering Mal is hurt him and he allows her to do so.. Not really the best way to start an intimate relationship in my book... However as time goes on and the pairs bond gets deeper I do have a grudging respect for the way they both seem to come to grips with the idea that this person is the one they never thought of hoping to find! Lust turns to caring and caring turns to the absolutely believable idea that Mal would die for Calliope before allowing one hair on her head to be harmed... It took a little longer for me to accept the same sentiment from Calliope but at the very end I took the same leap of faith with her that Mal meant more than her own life!

The awesome twists and turns and more turns and twists that keep you guessing about the why, how, who and what of Lokan's murder are finally revealed in the end.. The series is not over though as there is very obviously too many unanswered questions, not the least of which is what happens now that the murderer is revealed and Lokan is still out there to be found and brought home alive and intact once again. The good news is that book #4 Body Of Sin comes out in June 2011 and if rumor is to be believed another book will follow that one......

Malthus Krayl is a soul reaper and one of the sons of the Underworld god of chaos Sutekh. He lives each moment to the fullest and nothing means more to him than his brothers. After the murder of his youngest brother, he goes in search for information to find those responsible and make them pay. Before Mal could get anything out of the man he knows has information, he is taken from Mal by a tempting beauty he should not crave.

Calliope Kane is a Daughter of Aset and has a deep hatred for soul reapers because of an attack that left her family dead. She knows what Malthus is and should hate him just for existing but there is a desire building in her that won't be pushed aside. Both sides have traitors in their ranks and they will need each other to find out who.

Malthus is the bad boy out of this brothers. He steals, sleeps with women capable of setting him on fire and has a mouth on him worthy of his pirate nature. He also loves his family and will do whatever is necessary to find his brother's killers. I fell in love with him right away. I think he deserved better than Calliope. He fell for her instantly, put himself in harms way to protect her and even went into enemy territory to save her. I respect that she is a strong no non sense kind of woman but she very cold. She doesn't just turn Mal down flat but she physically hurts him over and over again and has little to no emotional response towards him. She hints at there being some feelings but I didn't buy it and when she said the big L word to him I rolled my eyes. There was good sexual chemistry between them but the only believable emotions came from Mal.

Sins of the Flesh continues the story from the previous 2 books. Lokan, the youngest son of Sutekh, is brutally killed and his brothers are trying to not only find his killers but find his remains and soul so they can bring him back. But they aren't the only ones looking. Other Underworld deities are for some reason looking for the same thing. The Daughters of Aset want to prevent the reapers from accomplishing this because they fear it will start an all out war that will cost many human lives. Sutekh calls for a meeting with the other Underworld gods and that's when things really got interesting. The ending felt rushed but still had a shocker that was an unexpected twist.

While I liked Sins of the Flesh I'd have to say it is my least favorite of the series. I could not warm up to Calliope no matter how much I tried to think of things from her point on view. Her relationship with Mal was the main focus in the book and it over shadowed everything else. I liked all the mythology in the series and the search for Lokan's remains and killer but there wasn't enough of either in this book. The big who did it question is answered but the last few sentences in the book pretty much has me ready to buy the next book. The Krayl males make this series and will be the reason why I continue.

Eve Silver has been added to my must read list!! For her third book in the Otherkin Trilogy I was awe-struck. Finally I could find the end of the story coming together and then Eve Silver adds the next big puzzle piece to look forward to.

"Torn between lust and loyalty...

The blood of the Underworld lord of evil runs through soul reaper Malthus Krayl’s veins.
Raised to fight for survival and to kill for victory, he can destroy anyone who poses a threat. As he searches for the one responsible for his brother’s murder, he refuses to succumb to any distraction…until his sworn enemy crosses his path and tempts him beyond all reason.

Calliope Kane, a Daughter of Aset, has a personal hatred for soul reapers. Their savage attack against her family still haunts her. But only Malthus can help her find the traitors of her kind, and only she can help him hunt the source of betrayal amongst the reapers. As they unite, the danger grows closer…and the passion between them ignites."

I didn't think that Eve Silver could top her first two books in this series, but needless to say she did. From the beginning of the story I found myself dying to know how everything was going to play out. The chemistry between Mal and Calliope was nonstop since they first encountered each other. The adventure and love rolled through the story.

Sins of the Flesh continues the story from the previous 2 books. Lokan, the youngest son of Sutekh, is brutally killed and his brothers are trying to not only find his killers, but find his remains and soul so they can bring him back. Surprise, they aren't the only ones looking. Sutekh calls for a meeting with the other Underworld gods and that's when the ball really started rolling. The big question of who killed Lokan is finally answered, but the last few pages in the book tells you the story will continue.

Not only do I recommend reading this book in the series ,but the next one that will follow. I couldn't tell you how excited I was to finally get my hands on Sins of the Flesh. I fell in love with Mal just like Calliope did. It was a fabulous read and I'm looking forward to the next installment, Body of Sin that is due out in June 2011.

This review was originally posted at Vampire Book Club.

Eve Silver has officially made my auto-buy list. As I said in my review of the second Otherkin book Sins of the Soul, her prose is stunning. The same is true in Sins of the Flesh, the final book in the trilogy.

Through the three novels, we have met three soul reaper brothers — demigods — who have sought the remains of their brother in the hopes of resurrecting him. Malthus, the brother focused on in Sins of the Flesh, is also keen to make those who murdered Lokan pay. With all the underworld politics, it’s hard to point a finger. Add into the mix each of the soul reaper sons falling head-over-heels for a Daughter of Aset, sworn enemies, and you have a complex paranormal mystery with excellent love stories. (Can you see why Silver’s books are must-buys yet?)

Sins of the Flesh is my favorite of the trilogy. (Notable as I tend to like the second books in trilogies where everything gets really bad.) There are three main reasons it’s a notch above the others.

First, Silver had my feelings about Mal do a 180. In earlier books we see him superficially, and I thought he was an ass. Maybe I like assholes, because his interactions with the awesome Calliope and reading from his point-of-view have me loving the adrenaline junkie.

Calliope may be a big reason for loving Mal. She’s the second reason Flesh is top of the Otherkin books. She’s in far deeper with the Daughters of Aset than the women we met in previous books. She challenges Mal in every way — early on it’s mostly physical challenges, then later big emotional ones. He does the same to her. Calliope is strong and self-reliant, but also very controlled. Watching her let her guard down is liberating to the reader, too.

Finally, Silver lets us read from the points-of-view of characters we care about from the earlier books. Sins of the Flesh is the full picture and offers a fitting and complete close to the Otherkin trilogy.

GRAN FINALE

Sins of the Flesh is the 3rd and final book in the Otherkin trilogy. It tells the story from Malthus Krayl's perspective. The search for their brother's soul and killer continues.

Calliope, Roxy's former mentor and Daughter of Aset, is a strong character. We first met her in book #1, Sins of the Heart. At first, I wasn't sure if she was a good mate for Malthus, who is an adrenaline junkie and risk-taker and more importantly, Calliope hates Soul Reapers. But, their story quickly has you hoping that they will make it work.

For every snipe Calliope shoots Mal's way, he has a light, funny rebuke. She's frustrated by him while being attracted to him. Their push and pull was a lot of fun to read.

I was a bit taken aback by the way things ended. I was thinking trilogy, all will be answered. LOL! Turns out, while the main subject of who, how and why re: Lokan's torture were answered, new questions and storylines emerge at the very end.

Thankfully I popped over to the author's website and saw that others have questioned this as well. Q: "Why were the Otherkin/Sins books described as a trilogy when there are more than three?" A: "The first three books are a trilogy in the sense that they complete a story arc. By the time the third book is done, the killer’s identity is revealed. But the revelation of that identity leaves new questions unanswered., and they’ll be addressed in future books." She also states that a new book (#4) will be released, called 'Body of Sin'. "Think of the very last scene in Mal’s book, SINS OF THE FLESH. That’ll tell you the identity of the hero of BODY OF SIN."

I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and I look forward to continuing on with the next trilogy/books.

Book 3 in the OtherKin series is all about the 3rd brother, Mal. We get to dive further into the mystery and suspense of the death of Lokan and all the players that are intertwined with it. This mystery just get more and more twisted, and the big finale of it all is just amazing!

Mal, our main male lead in this book, is a player. Ever since losing his love hundreds of years ago, when he was still a young man and unaware of his parentage, Mal has jumped from one bed to the next, never settling down with one woman because he doesn't want to lose anyone again. When he meets Calliope all that shatters. Calliope is a super-tough, smart, and independent woman who takes no prisoners and does things her own way. When she holds her own against Mal he really begins to change his mind about the whole player deal.

I think Mal has become my new favorite brother. He's hilarious and cocky and just great to read about and connect with. This book really ended with a bang, and fun cliffhanger that didn't make me want to throw the book, but did leave me anxious for the next installment. I really enjoy this series!

My favorite of the series so far and I think it has much to do with the hero (Mal). That being said, the truth about this series' mystery is revealed in this book, so reading them in order is A MUST (I hated book 2, though). And it's basically a not-so-shocking-in-hindsight SHOCKER which leaves us with one of Eve Silver's signature cliffhangers (she's GOOD at them, too). I was DEFINITELY left intrigued and can't wait to read the next book in this series!

The start of this book was a little slow but then it really picks up and you just fly though it .

Oh my god i just love Melthus so much ,his first meeting with Calliope was so steamy ! Mel is such a great character and i enjoyed reading his book, he's a live in the moment kinda guy and i love that about him :) , this push and pull relationship between him and Calli is intense ,i felt like the fact that Calli actually hates Soul Reapers for what they did to her family is a obstacle that they both have to push past but once they do its awesome.

Calliope is a bad ass chick :) i was just waiting to see more about her since we meet her in the 1st book in this series and she did not disappoint :)
Her and Mel have a this connection even though she doesn't want it ,its still there and its powerful ,she finally gives in and her and Mel fall in love and end up solving the mystery of who killed his brother , Mel couldn't have done it without her .

i love the fact that each book is about a different brother but the main story is the same ,they are all trying to 1. find out who killed their brother Lokan & 2. bring him back from the dead , i loved that we finally see who is behind the murder and why , i was starting to put the pieces together but then the picture was finally before us and holy crap the end to this book is awesome
i am so in love with this series ,it's totally different than other books i've read & i can't get enough of it :)

I enjoyed the characters. The pace is fast moving and there is a significant story in addition to the romance between the main characters. The romance between the main characters is complete within this book but the story arc continues across the series and you should NOT start with this book. I don't believe that the story will feel coherent if you have not read the first one. I personally hate cliffhangers and, given the engaging style of the author, won't start any of her series without the last one being released, as it would frustrate me. Since all the books were out and I could just keep going, this was great.

Not My Favorite in the Series
Malthus Krayl, now the youngest of the three remaining soul reaper sons of Sutekh, überlord of the Underworld, is the only one of his brothers who doesn't think they are going to be able to bring their murdered brother Lokan back from the dead. The adrenaline junkie with a bad boy Lothario complex a mile wide keeps that opinion on the down low, however, because he's right on board with both Dagan and Alastor about finding whomever is responsible for that death and making them pay for their heinous act.

Making them pay a lot.

Their investigation has led them to Pyotr Kuznetsov, High Reverend of the Setnakhts, cult followers loyal to Sutekh. Mal stalks Kuznetsov, but before he can snatch him up and press him for answers, he's accosted by Calliope Kane, Daughter of Aset, ancient enemy of Sutekh. He's a little taken aback when, instead of easily overpowering her and getting exactly what he wants as he fully expected to do, she gets the drop on him and uses his own blood against him. She leaves him cut, bleeding, and stuck to a wall. And he'd never been more captivated by a female in all his years.

The challenge laid, the lines drawn, Mal and Calliope dance a wicked dance. Born enemies, vastly different agendas, and serving opposing masters, the heat of their attraction to each other may turn the final key in the puzzle of Lokan's murder. Or it will destroy them both.

It pains me to say this, but I was terribly disappointed in this third installment of Silver's Otherkin series. Fortunately I came to this series late, because when this book was originally published, it was slated to be the last in a trilogy. Had that been the case, I would've felt even less kindly for it because the conclusion was anything but satisfying.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

This third book gave me problems with both major plot arcs. The series arc, the search for Lokan's killer or killers, went a little wonky here. What had been a slow, steady accumulation of facts and disparate, confusing information that tantalized as it intrigued became, in Sins of the Flesh, a bunch of leaps and bounds of information, answers, and actions without a clear understanding of how such progress was made from one book to the next.

Compounding that issue were several unanswered questions about major players and their entourage which have been popping up since the beginning, a new character who was the key to critical information who hadn't been mentioned before, and a resolution that didn't actually resolve anything. And I may be wrong, because it's been awhile, but I could swear the events and characters featured in the Otherkin prequel, Sin's Daughter, caused a plot conflict at a crucial part in this book.

Then there were the lead characters. I loved Dae and Roxy, Alastor and Naphré. Those couples were really the driving force of my entertainment in the first two books. Mal and Calliope, however, left me a little cold. I didn't dislike them, really, they were fine in their roles, but they didn't work for me as well as the couples that preceded them. Mal was too much the typical bad boy womanizer allegedly reformed by love and Calliope was a bit too good at acting completely cold and unfeeling for far too long into the book for my tastes. Beyond that, there wasn't much attention given to character definition or depth for either of them.

And the reason Calliope had such hate on for soul reapers, the major defining aspect of her character, was resolved with almost ridiculous ease in a startlingly short amount of time once the topic was broached. I couldn't quite buy that given the circumstances and Calliope's age. On the other hand, I was absolutely right on one very big answer to a very complicated question, so I did feel some measure of satisfaction in the book.

I'm very glad that this book isn't the conclusion of a trilogy and I'm anxious to see the fallout of the events of this book as the series continues. I have enjoyed Silver's dark, edgy, unique world and her sexy, dangerous characters. This one wasn't nearly as appealing to me as the others, but I do have high hopes for the next. By the nature of the story in this one, I can't imagine it not serving as a turning point to what comes next, and I plan to be along for the ride. Besides, I liked both Mal and Calliope better when they were secondary or ancillary characters, so having them return to those roles can only have events looking up for me.

Heads Up: This is not a series I would recommend being read out of order or jumping into it anywhere but the beginning (though the prequel isn't absolutely necessary). Silver writes a cohesive series that is essentially a paranormal murder mystery spanning three books, but not enough exposition is provided at the beginning of each to sufficiently clue in new/unfamiliar readers to the breadth and scope of the world, plot, and characters.

This has been my favourite book in this series. I loved Malthus and Calliope, and the background story is picking up the pace.

These books have been a delight to read. They fall somewhere between paranormal romance and urban fantasy, making the stories really engaging. As soon as I put one book down, I pick up the next one.

Calli and Mal are great together. Neither one of them is willing to give in to the other one. They are both after the same person and won't trust the other for one second. I love the chemistry between them!
When they finally start working together they accomplish the impossible and thwart Lokan's killer of their ultimate goal.

Right from the start (Book 1), it is established that Sutekh is bad, yet for some reason I was surprised. Kinda stupid of me, I guess... Well, I enjoyed reading this book, as I've enjoyed reading the others in the series so far.

I really liked this one. So far it's been the best in the series and we finally got some answers. I'd suggest reading the books in order. You may be a little lost if they are read out of order.
