The book starts with introducing us to electricity by telling you where it is and briefly starting into the history. Then it goes into detail about the history of electricity, starting more than 2000 years ago. Eventually, it goes into detail about what electricity is and how everything has energy. There are several examples of experiments that prove concepts about electricity that you can do at home. The book has helpful and neatly designed diagrams on almost every page. Further in, some relevant applications of electricity are discussed, such as electromagnets, motors, generators, power lines, telephones, radio, lights, and televisions.

The quote that was the most compelling was on the last chapter, on the last page 136. “Electricity has made our lives safer, more comfortable and more interesting.” This quote stands out to me as this book was published in 1957, so the full extent at which electricity would impact our day to day lives had not been fully realized.

I gave this book 4/5 stars because it was a comprehensible book that was able to introduce ideas and concepts in an easy to understand way that didn’t overwhelm the reader. I also really loved the designs of the diagrams. The way that the chapters taught new concepts that would be added onto in an effective and interesting manner was one of things that made reading this book enjoyable.

I can see myself recommending this book to a friend. I don’t usually read nonfiction books, but this book was able to hold my interest throughout. I would only recommend this book to someone who I know reads nonfiction books, or is interested in electricity like I am.

It was a great introduction to electrical concepts for me. I now use it as reference if I ever forget a basic concept or can't remember an electrical term.
