Though I really did like Jason, I wondered why he kept putting up with Angie's ways. I'm sorry, but I thought she was childish and too full of herself. She is a homicide detective and not suited to go up against federal government problems. Near the end, when she was with "the boys," she got very cocky and never realized that her actions caused a lot more problems.
There was plenty of action in this. I didn't care much for the romance (until the end anyways). I really liked Jason and enjoyed reading about his struggles with faith and revenge. His coming to terms with his friend's death was sweet and believable. Angie though...well, all I can say is that Jason has his work cut out for him!
I ran across an older book of Terri Reed's in this Covert Pursuit. What a find! This author has obviously been putting out stellar suspense books for many years. I picked it up because Terri Reed is an author I enjoy, her books are always good! With heart-stopping suspense on nearly every page I could hardly put it down! The heroine, Angie, is a Boston homicide detective worth her salt. When she sees a crime committed she intends to do whatever is necessary to bring the bad guys to justice. Her strong faith in God shines through as she seeks justice. Jason is a federal agent tracking a very bad man. He can't have the beautiful detective get in his way, nor does he want her help. But Angie does not back down, she will not be coddled. I love a strong heroine and in this story both are strong characters. Terri did a magnificent job with this story-line. I highly recommend it!
Homicide Detective Angie Carlucci is staying at her aunt's beach-side vacation cottage in the FL Keys for a week of forced leave. When she spots a boat offshore throwing what looked like a body bag overboard she informs the local cops. When they seem uninterested she hires a boat to go take a look. Before she can dive an armed boat shows up and forces them away. Tour boat captain Jason Bodewell working undercover is afraid Angie will wreck his operation. This sets up a pretty typical inspirational suspense story. Not bad.
This story has one of the most impressive twists I have ever read and believe me that is saying something! Overall, the mystery is good. I didn't love it like some storylines, but it held my attention. Angie got on my nerves a bit, she was little bit too bullheaded for me at times, and for a cop-you'd think she'd know better than some of what she pulled in the story. Solid LIS installment.
I liked this book but it was slow reading because Angie the Boston detective was obnoxious and rude. I like the Jason character because he had to put up with her. It was a good plot and was exciting and surprise ending. So good read
This is the first book that I have read by Terri Reed and I will be reading more. I love the Love Inspired Suspense books. This book had a bit of romance, inspiration and suspense.
DNF. The main character, Angi, is supposed to be a Boston police detective. However, her actions are so uncharacteristic for a detective that she appears to be ridiculously stupid. 0 stars.
This book is so gripping! Once I started I just couldn't bring myself to stop. It was sweet but never too over the top. It was fun and suspenseful like its supposed to be. I was in constant agony over if Jason and Angie were really going to get together or not. Terri Reed brings good writing to the plate. She did NOT fail to deliver. Each problem that arose was relevant and it never seemed too predictable. Maybe some minor things were, but overall it was just so much fun to read that those tiny itsy bitsy points don't even seem to exist. That or I just don't care too much about them to make a big deal of them.
I really liked seeing the interactions between Jason and Angie. The way they grew and developed as characters was nice. The thing that makes it all so intriguing is that Jason has to keep his cover and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen once Angie found out everything. They are such great characters and a really great match though. I just kept thinking how perfect they were for one another in personality and profession. The other issue going on besides the hunt for Picard and the mysteries surrounding Loribel Island is Jason's faith. Angie is very strong in her faith and her hope never seems to die out. Jason on the other hand has lost his faith ever since his incredibly faithful friend Garrett was killed (first chapter, beginning sentences, so technically not even a real spoiler). Towards the end of the book, Reed addresses this issue moreso than at the beginning. While it isn't a distracting point, it is rather random to just toss it in sporadically at the end. I feel like it couldn't been melted into the story and incorporated better. It just seemed a bit out of place at times. If there was consistency from the start then I would have nothing to say about it besides job well done.
Overall, this book was highly entertaining and thrilling. The romance was great and the characters were very interesting. The plot never dragged and the book didn't rush through much. Covert Pursuit gets a 4 out of 5, because it was a great read, but still didn't have that little bit of je ne sais quoi that pushes a book to a 5 for me. Its still a fabulous read though!!!! I would highly recommend it. Its definitely not one of the ones I would pass up.
Detective Angie Carlucci is trying to do something very out of character for her: relax on a secluded beach during her vacation. Her efforts are halted when she sees a boat dump what she thinks is a body into the ocean.
An undercover agent, Jason Bodwell, sees Angie’s relentless efforts of investigating, and decides to protect her without blowing his cover. But, he soon finds himself “treading dangerous waters” from the moment she enters his life.
This story makes you self-reflect if plotting revenge is “loving your enemy” or the justice God wants us to deliver for Him...
Angie was a detective and Jason was a federal agent who came together at the "Keys". Angie saw a body being dumped into the ocean and wanted to find out who did it and why. The two tried catching the villian but Angie was wounded so Jason was left to conquer on his own. Would he find the suspect and would Jason come back to Angie? This was a quick and good read!
Good book, suspenseful and interesting. If I could have given 3 1/2 stars I would have. Angie and Jason had a great adventure together, I would have liked to seem more of them getting to know each other better not just solving the mystery together. I ending was good and the lesson behind the story was as well.
While on vacation in Florida, a Boston homicide detective, sees something in a body bag dumped from a boat and can't let it pass. Meanwhile, an undercover federal agent, doesn't need her causing problems and blowing his cover. OK book.
Good fast reading book. Homicide detective Angie Carlucci is on a much needed vacation in the Florida Keys when she sees a body bag being dumped in the ocean but local law enforcement does not believe her so she tries herself to solve this crime.
I like the story very much, but I think the proof reader was tired when they checked the book.Caught quite a few misspelled words and use of wrong words like using him when should of been her, mostly in second half of book.I would still recommend it to read.
I thought it was interesting. I picked it up do to the fact it was based in the keys and I have always wanted to go there. The book was filled with suspense but Angie was annoying towards the end because she kept causing more trouble because of her stupid actions but i did enjoy the book.
It WAS a gripping story as advertised. The characters were believable and it was nice to read a book in which the male and female leads are not in bed together before you finish the second chapter.
I enjoyed the first book in the series better. I liked this one but for some reason I skimmed the actual climax of this book. It didn't hold my interest towards the end. I am glad I read it though.
