In 1973 John Wayne recorded a poem written by John Mitchum (younger brother of actor Robert Mitchum). The recording was nominated for a Grammy that year, though Wayne did not win. Wayne was a man who had a deep affection for America. He wanted to record Mitchum's patriotic poems and did. This children's volume is based on Mitchum's poem, "America, Why I Love Her." A nice little book to teach children that America is a wonderful place.

Excellent book. I can really hear his voice coming through. This is a must have for any fan of the Duke. As a huge fan, I highly recommend this book.

Extremely short, organized without rhyme or reason, extremely poor quality black and white pictures and very poor quality color pictures, no reasoning behind why any but two of the pictures were chosen, much of the book is taken up by musical notation which for me is skipped…. Not sure what the heck the point of writing this book was…. It had no real organization.

I could hear John Wayne's voice as I read the words! America--certainly the land of the free and the home of the brave.
