Lot of bones, little meat. The meat in there is decent, but my goodness, the book would have been half as long if the author didn’t say “he or she” when referring to a pastor.
Paul Borden has A proven track record of success in recalibrating congregations and districts from preference to purpose and from inbound to outbound. This book is a field manual on how to do it.
This is the book for the 21st century church denominational structure. Unless churches adopt a new style of management, we are going to see more and more churches pulling off into independent status.
I've had the opportunity to hear Paul speak several times and have met him on a couple of occasions. He is a dynamic force in the American church. I'm excited to see where this will go.
Good insights on how ministries must identify their goals, measure them and hold their leaders accountable. I would recommend it to ministry and non-profit leaders for this reason; it's a very quick read and gives some valuable insights in this regard.
However, because I'm not in congregational leadership and do not participate in a judicatory, there was much that was of little value for me.
Borden offers an inspiring account of how one denomination defied the gravity of negative momentum and bureaucrat in order to usher in tangible, sweeping change with an existing structure. Great read.
