Meet Cher--she lives in Beverly Hills with her father, has her wardrobe on computer, and drives a Jeep even though she doesn't have a license. She wants to do good--like arranging for two of her teachers to fall in love or rescuing a New York transplant from teenage hell. About the author
H.B. Gilmour
66 books54 followersH. B. Gilmour was a bestselling author of children's books. She grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her mother and the extended family and fondly remembered writing her very first poem for Arbor Day when she was just eight years old. As a teenager, she moved to Florida to live with her father. She attended college there and then moved back to New York City.
Gilmour’s first publishing job was at E.P. Dutton. In 1964 she joined Bantam Books where she worked as copywriter, editor, and copy chief and as an associate director of marketing. She was married to Bruce Gilmour in 1968. She had a child, Jessica, with him in 1970. They were divorced in 1972. Her first novel "The Trade", a trashy paperback about the publishing business, was published in 1969.
She wrote novelizations (including Saturday Night Fever) and children's books (including Muppets books) while working full-time at Bantam and raising a child on her own. She published her second original novel "So Long, Daddy" in 1985. The artwork for the dust jacket of the hardcover release includes a photo of her daughter, Jessica. Her third novel was "Ask Me If I Care", a book about a teenage girl who gets in with the wrong crowd.
In 1992 she joined the book division at Scholastic, leaving in 1995 to pursue writing full-time. She focused her energy on books for "tweens" and children which is what gave her the most joy.
She met John Johann, whom she would later marry, in 1992. They later moved to Cornwallville in upstate New York where she happily tended to the garden she never had in the city until her death. She died on June 21, 2009 of pneumonia due to complications from lung cancer. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Jessica, stepchildren Wendy and John, Jr. and step-grandchildren Reef, Riley, John Jr. and Jasmine.

Well this was a silly book. I picked it up out of curiosity at my library book sale for a quarter. I love the movie clueless & this book was essentially a recap of the movie with actual quotes & scenes written in a how-to live like Cher guide. Except, for some reason, they changed little random details such as Elton leaving his cranberries cd in the quad was updated to a smashing pumpkins cd, and tai got knocked out at the Val party from another girls loose shoes instead of hitting her head on a lamp? Very strange. I was amused by the book overall & read it within 15 minutes so I guess I can say I got my quarter's worth?

It was a really cute book I love clueless and me and my fiancé just watched the movie not long before finding this book ironically. I didn’t even know there were clueless books but I’m very glad to be aware and now own a few copy’s of said books. It was also a fun quick read I flew threw it and had fun doing it

How I Came To Read This Book: My sister (and myself!) was obsessed with Clueless and some nice family member picked this up for her.
The Plot: An interesting way to change up the ‘movie adaptations’ that proliferate when a film is really popular. Rather than adapt the film line for line in a book, this ‘guide’ is basically Cher Horowitz’s dos & don’ts that reflect everything that happens in the movie. The majority of the content is lifted from the film, so essentially the book serves as a little movie encyclopedia including sections on ‘lingo’ and ‘setting up for a date’ (as per her movie night with Christian).
The Good & The Bad: I think the book was more appealing at the time, when you couldn’t get enough Clueless. It has no real literary or educational value, but I’m sure I read it at least 2 or 3 times as a kid cause it was such a slim, fun book that reminded me of one of my favourite, quintessentially 90s films. To actually read the 90s equivalent of fan fic for Clueless, I’d recommend picking up one of the many fictional books written about Cher & co (I personally read a few but I can’t remember any of them as well as this book) instead.
The Bottom Line: Not even a must-have for diehard Clueless fans, but a fun one if you stumble across it. Nostalgia!

Clueless is my favorite film, so that is the main reason why I read this book. It is a how to guide and there are loads of quotes from the movie and even stills in the middle.
Anyways, this book took me about 20 minutes to read. It was a cute book and I am glad that I read it. It's nice to get more into Cher's head and her opinions on things.
