In the reality show Got Men? six young men are selected, they assume randomly, for their participation as housemates in an isolated location in Nevada. The purpose of their stay is never revealed to them. Conrad Hogan, an unemployed construction worker begins to suspect what the ultimate goal is of the producers; Derek Dixon, Will Markham, and director Charlotte Deavers. When Conrad realizes that he and his five handsome, single housemates are being set up for a huge fall, Conrad panics and has to make decisions based on what the ubiquitous cameras and microphones will reveal. Among Conrad's housemates are Tony Spagna, the tough New York Harley Rider from the Men in Motion Series, Leather Boys, and Alfonso Garofalo, the striking tennis instructor who was involved in an illicit affair with Senator Kipp Kensington's wife, Louise, in Exposure. If only a screen writer would pick this book up as an option or a reality show!!! Oh my heavens!!! Serioulsy read it and you will agree this should so be on TV!!!!! I would watch it, tivo, itune it and buy the freaking dvd of it!!!! Awesome! Each character is so interesting and they show up in other books in the GA Hauser world.
I really been disappointed with some of G.A. Hauser books lately, but this is one of her best books. I had a giggle or two over some of the situations with the men. All in all a pretty good read.
I really liked this book it was funny and sweet. It was good to see the characters from her other books get a happy ending themselves and they were able to be who they wanted to be in the end.
I first read this about 13 years ago, when I was still deeply closeted AND starved for m/m e-books. I read several of her books in a row, and remembered liking the stories (or at least finding them hot?), but I did not remember how deeply problematic this book was, on several levels.
There was A LOT of misogyny and homophobia that the characters were battling as they find their own paths out of the closet, which was all plot necessary. What was NOT necessary was the transphobia and utter lack of respect to a trans woman who was solely included for plot reasons that could just have easily used a cis woman, without having all of the slurs and nastiness ensue. Also, there were several instances of what Heaving Bossom's would probably term "a light assualt."
And while the characters ultimately got their HEA, the entire Machivellian forced outing of multiple people was NOT okay or at all justifiable, no matter what the cishet female produce tried to claim about helping boost visibility for gay men as role models.
While some of the problematic things were most definitely a product of the times (hard to believe 2010 was so long ago, in terms of queer rights), that does not negate their harm---much less the problematic premise over all.
Also, in addition to the trigger warnings for homophobia, trans phobia, unwanted sexual contact, and generally dehumanizing behavior, there was some pretty fetishistic racism sprinkled in for good measure.
While I reread the entire of the book, hoping to find it had a redemptive 2nd half, I was sadly mistaken. The characters continued to be rather generic sterotypes until the end...and I'm assuming this was an early attempt at writing gay sex scenes for the author, because there were definitely some interesting choices made on that front.
Since I feel like I really did enjoy her books overall, I plan to give a couple others in my library a second pass...perhaps I'll be able to recommend one of them.

Loved it. Really loved it. The concept was good, the idea sinister, an underlying critic of reality tv and the consequences for those who look for their 15 minutes of fame without realizing the impact it will have on their lives after the show is over. Now combine that with m/m erotic romance and you have six guys, who are in the closet and while they live an active life in their communities, they have for various reasons failed to find the closet door yet. The story is told from the view of Conrad, a construction worker, who uses down time in the business, that leaves him without a job, to sign up for a reality tv show. He knows the producers of the show, since they have been the successful producers of one of his favourite tv shows. So he signs the contract without reading the fine print. He ends up in a house, similar to Big Brother with Tony, Dean, Kelvin, Sonny and Alfonso. Wondering what the catch is, since there is no eviction, he finds himself checking the other guys out. Refusing to out himself or any of the others he has to deal with being watched by cameras 24/7 with no place to hide. Yes, the bathroom has cameras too. - Most of the time I was grinning about the absurdity to hide in real closets to get changed, to say what they think and then to remember that they all wear microphones, the hunt for a spot that isn't covered by a camera, the bickering between some of the housemates till they bond and band together against the rocks that get thrown in their way. It is almost comical to see how they wind around to avoid showing any "gay" behavior but strutting around in shorts only, showing off body and body art.
Another FANTASTIC READ... Conrad story..Loved it, totally FUNNY story which Conrad gets more than he's bargained for. Entering a house that's totally wired to the internet with 5 other males. Just a recipe for entertaining results, especially if Miss Charlotte Devers has anything to do with it. This one has definitely made my to be re-read list.. I'm wondering if Charlotte is Miss Hauser in these books..lol.
I loved the idea behind this book. I won't spoil it for you all but let's just say it's wickedly evil but just what was needed fir the men of this book. Conrad is the MC and we see the events unfold through his POV only. It's a really good sexy book with some very hot scenes. Enjoy
