Produced with the full cooperation of the Morrison estates, The Jim Morrison Scrapbook captures the wild life, mysterious death, and enduring work of the Doors' legendary leader. New interviews with friends, family members, surviving band members, and music industry figures complement a selection of rare and never-before-published photos, including shots of private moments with his "cosmic mate" Pam Courson and his last days in Paris. The book also features 24 pieces of removable facsimile memorabilia, such as Jim's handwritten lyrics to "L. A. Woman," his teenage artwork, and a letterto his father concerning Jim's infamous arrest in Miami. An exclusive 60-minute CD comprising rare interviews plus Jim telling candid stories and a never-before-heard original poem caps off this incomparable collector's package.
James Henke was a writer, music editor and eventually managing editor at Rolling Stone before becoming the first curator at the Rock and Roll of Fame, where he served for 19 years.
I thought this book was great. I have read most of the books on Jim multiple times. This book had lots of information that I had never read about before. The author is a curator at the rock and roll hall of fame so he had access to infomation that Jim's parents have donated to the museum. There are actual replications of some of Jim's artwork, poems & lyrics in this book. There is also a copy of the rolling stone interview from back in the day that I would never have gotten to read otherwise. If you are a Jim Morrison fan this is a must read, a must own!
I bought this scrapbook when it was initially released. I was on a major 'Doors' kick at the time and needed to explore everything about the band. I recently pulled the book out and went over it again. This informative book explores Jim's early life until his death--copies of poems, drawings, letters, band programs--all compiled into a lovely designed book. I especially love the touching letters that Jim wrote during childhood. It is, above all, a truly fascinating scrapbook that every Jim Morrison fan would be proud to have in their collection.
The contents of this book are incredible. The photos draw you in, and the information it contains is wonderful. This is probably the best of the scrapbook series books that has been released.
I recommend this to every single Jim Morrison’s fan, this isn’t just a biography and not as good (or should I say complete) as “No one here gets out alive” by Jerry Hopkins.
It has a cd with spoken words, birth certificate, obituary, copies of handwriting poetry etc.
I think its well done due to the various perspectives of the major roles in his life: the poet, the band member, the lover (…) and it was done with all the help of everbody surrounding him, friends, family, known celebrities that are familiar with his work.
This is a terrific, albeit brief, chronicle of the life and times of Jim Morrison. As one would expect, it includes great photos and stories from friends and fellow Doors band mates. The highlight, however, is the collection of ephemera tucked into neat little pockets throughout the book. A ticket to a show, a report card, drawings, his last will and testament, songs, notes, and poems in Jim's handwriting. Very intimate and deeply touching.
A quick read with fascinating souvenirs from Jim's life. This 'scrapbook' was beautifully constructed, with many never-before-seen photographs and clear details to spell out the creation of Jim Morrison and subsequently, the success of the Doors. I'd recommend this to every Doors fan and especially every Jim Morrison fan.
This is a nice addition to any Doors fan's library. I don't think anyone will be surprised by what is included as pull outs but its a very nice coffee table type book with enough notes, lyric reproductions, etc. to keep both the casual fan and collector interested.
For any fan of Jim Morrison, this scrapbook is a must have. It is a collection of copies of his original art work, poems, report cards and letters. Included is a brief biography of his life and some amazing pictures.
Great piece of Doors memorabilia to have in my collection, as well as anyone who is a fan of Doors merchandise. It was a nice change to read a few things I didn't already know about, or may have forgotten.
