"Searching for a God to Love" reaches out to those seeking a new understanding of God--apart from preconception, institutionalized religion, or pre-packaged agenda. Throughout the book, Chris Blake divides the mystery surrounding who God is and reveals the powerful, infinite, and loving relationship God seeks to have with mere mortals. With chapter titles such as "Beyond Mother Nature" and "The World's Greatest Lover," "Searching for a God to Love" offers a fresh perspective for those seeking a God in whom they can believe.
I read this book several years ago during my senior year of high school. When I got onto Goodreads a few months ago, I quickly added books I had read and carelessly rated this book a 2-out-of-5 stars. Chris Blake has been a dear friend and mentor to me as long as I have known him. He poured his heart into the story and the journey reflected in this book. His writing reminds me of Phillip Yancey (or maybe it's vice versa): creative, witty, profound. I appreciated the lessons I learned about the smallness of me, the bigness of God, and the grace that abounds in between.
Starts with the discussion of the possible existence of a Superior Being and slowly narrows it down to the person of Jesus Christ. Then it goes on to show how His teachings confirm both Old and New Testament of the Bible.
I have often taken for granted the importance of this book in my spiritual journey. I read it long before I realized I was struggling with some spiritual questions but realize now that I consider the concepts within to be the starting point for many of my core spiritual beliefs. You know how easy it is to forget the difficulty of riding a bike before you learned balance, momentum, and courage? But now you hardly give it a thought as you glide along the bike path? That's what happened to me. I recommend this book and think a re-read for myself would give even more depth and joy to my journey.
This book is life changing. With singular clarity and well reasoned argument, Chris explains who God is and why He is different from anything you've ever heard about Him. I would recommend this for anyone.
I learned more about God and what He wants our relationship to be like. It's one that I will have to read multiple times. Every time God will speak to my heart even more.
