In 1929 things weren’t what they are today, as I found out when I visited my old friend Mickey at a very special Gentleman’s Club. Mickey’s “dog” Rufus was slim, blond and 5ft 6, but I never saw him stand upright. He stayed at crotch level, and he proved himself to be a very talented boy indeed when it came to obeying his master’s every command.

How Many Times Is The First Time? by Chrissie Bentley
No one at work knows for sure if Marty is gay. But he’s such a nice gu...
This collection of twenty short stories of male-male fun sucked me in with Sand and Steel, the very first story by Shanna Germain, and yes, pun intended.
I’m glad Sand and Steel was the opening story. The writing was absolutely amazing and vivid. Plus being a SEAL has its own allure in any erotic story. This story was so well told that I found myself comparing the other stories to it to see if they could measure up.
It’s a Sin by Alex Jordain was definitely one of those stories that measured up. The tale of the Roman Catholic boy who can’t get enough self-pleasure while lusting after the blond altar boy or “altar server.” I wondered if the author used altar server over altar boy as a way to distract you from the fact you’re reading about teenagers. Either way, it was successfully written and quite relatable in the first-teenage-crush kind of way.
Then there’s The Fist by G. R. Richards, he’s called The Fist because he’s a fighter but I’m sure you can guess where this story ends up just by the name of the title. Not my favorite story but nicely done. It gave me the feeling that it was written for men-- who enjoy good warehouse sex amidst the noise of a trash compactor--instead of women.
There are twenty stories in this collection which makes it difficult to talk about them all. But to sum it up, Boy Fun has enough male-male variety to keep you entertained for hours.
I was wondering what to expect from an M/M erotica anthology from Xcite - most of the gay erotica I've read in the past has been either written for a gay male audience or has been the more romantic stuff aimed at the M/M romance readers (mainly female, I presume). This anthology fits somewhere in the middle, with stories from across that spectrum: from hard and kinky to sweet and vanilla, there's something for every reader in this lot. You will also find a range of genres and themes: contemporary, historical, BDSM, group sex, voyeurism, humour, bittersweet, and first times.
Of course, with such a wide range there are bound to be stories that you enjoy more than others, but there were very few I didn't care for and many that were a big hit. The writing is all of a decent quality, and in some stories in absolutely excels.
All in all, I can recommend this anthology for anyone who wants to sample a wide range of gay erotica and discover the themes and styles that work best for them. It's hot, and it's a fun read (despite the dark and traumatic story it kicks off with).
This was a collection of mostly hits, but a couple of misses in short story form, but I could see the balance and variety that the compiler Lucas Steele was trying to achieve.
Sand And Steel - Shanna Germain
It was HARD to concentrate on this story as it immediately had the desired effect of being very sexy. I’m not really sure what I had expected from this collection of man on man short stories, but I certainly hadn’t noticed that they were erotica until I picked the book up.
This particular espionage narrative was interesting and mysterious and I enjoyed it when I could keep my focus from wandering. I felt that it was like a gay equivalent of ‘An Officer And A Gentleman’ or ‘Full Metal Jacket’ in some ways or an extension of the scene in ‘Casino Royale, when Daniel Craig, as James Bond was tied naked to that chair, but in other ways it was clear that it was all just meant for titillation, without too much thought, because the emotional side of things was hardly explored. I needed to know why the narrator was “Torturing” his captive in the way that he was, as it didn’t seem like something I would have expected to be standard procedure, but I’m probably not supposed to look in to it in that much detail. In general I liked it.
Beauty And The Beast - Penelope Friday
This instalment was less erotically charged than the previous one, but sweet in its way. I wouldn’t say that the writing was outstanding in any way or anything that I wouldn’t find in a standard romantic book and I wasn’t sure that it was specifically worthy of being picked out to feature in this collection, but it was nice and inoffensive. I’d like to read it as part of a larger story to see how things might turn out for Sebastian and Len and if they would ever move on from being fuck buddies.
How Many Times Is The First time? - Chrissie Bentley
A sexy tease of a story, I liked the building of the tension between the office coworkers and the ultimate climax between them both. I also appreciated the erotic description of the tender moment. It was easy to recognise as an experience that we have all probably had on a date or with a colleague.
It’s a sin - Alex Jordaine
Sinfully delicious with a tantalising way of making me feel the apprehension, I was convinced that something was going to go wrong for the narrator. Either that Jerry would turn out to be a bastard or that they would both be found out. With Sunday afternoons free it was a short story about two church going lads finding themselves through finding each other. I loved the brilliant way that it was so succinct and it felt like the type of bragging tale that might be told by a boy at a camp about his previous conquests from long summers past. It wasn’t extensive or wholly explicit, but it did the job and so did the narrator.
Snow Wolf - John Connor
Apart from the fact that it was easily readable and used far less unnecessary language, this story could easily have been a lost excerpt of Boris Pasternak’s ‘Doctor Zhivago’ w weigh its time setting and locale. I could easily imagine the characters to be that of Omar Sharif’s ‘Yuri’ and a wild off the grid forest man. After all Yuri did seem to fall in love and sleep with everybody he met too.
It also had similarities to Dolly Parton’s ‘Joshua’ song, with its idea of a secluded man meeting someone and falling in love. What the short tale did lack however was the time to develop their romance and relationship before finding that they were compatible and I felt that it might have been nicer to have them get to know each other first and then stumble across their feelings a bit instead of getting straight to the down and dirty. It might have only taken two more pages, but I thought that it would have given it a bit more heart and been a little less morally ambiguous to have relations with a barely recovered and wounded soldier.
The Fist - G.R. Richards
I felt that the set up of this one was initially more like a porn script than an erotic story. The way that the sexual element was so public, in a masculine working environment, seemed hard to believe and may only have been saved by the very final line of the tale, assuming that it wasn’t just a throwaway remark by “The Fist”. As you would expect, the narrative was about that particular sexual exploit, but “The Fist” was also a character.
What I did find to be a stretch of the imagination though was Walter and Rude Rudy’s involvement with the shenanigans. Other than that, I enjoyed what I read and felt that it titillated as it should.
Wired - Landon Dixon
I liked how the story got straight down to business without having to wait for a huge build up to a cum scene. It didn’t tease or tantalise for long and just went for it and then went for it again. The writer may have used a bit too much description and metaphor and due to the central characters job as an electrician (Hence the title) he may have referenced electricity and the relevant tools a bit too often, but it was a hot and sensuous tale of pleasure that I would gladly read again.
Unleashing A Demon - Eva Hore
I don’t know about being in Melbourne, but if this story was about the nudist beach at the Torquay near where I live, then the author wrote every fantasy that I’ve ever had about going there. It was intense and focussed and got straight to the point. A constant stream of erotica without too much fluffing out with dialogue and description. The title was a bit naff for the actual content though as there were no actual demons involved, only a couple of fairies, not even magic ones at that.
The Running Man - Jade Taylor
I enjoyed this one for its simplicity, but the action in it was gentle and over quickly. It did however tick yet another box as one of those dirty little fantasies that we have all had about our hot neighbours inviting us in after our run, while we are hot and sweaty to get hotter and sweatier.
Basic Rules Of Anal Sex - Kay Jaybee
I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen this made in to a short on one of the ‘Boys On Film’ DVD’s. It wasn’t exactly a story that fit my own preferences, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The set up was a bit odd though. I thought that you would have to have a desperate need to be dominated to accept a list of sex rules thrust at you upon entering a bar. Personally I would have found it weird and avoided Jack like the plague, maybe to the point of reporting the incident to the owners of the club, but I suppose that wasn’t really the point of the story. It was horny and a pleasure to read, but not necessarily something to take a lesson from, because going to a strangers house and letting them do what they want to you could be very dangerous.
Safe And Sound - Alex K. Bell
As with the earlier ‘Snow Wolf’, I felt that if a gay man had written the song ‘Joshua’ instead of Dolly Parton, this would probably have been how the narrative would have gone. I really this one though, because the rescuer didn’t force himself upon the injured, which can be a questionable thing sometimes and there was sensitivity to the way it was written and the way that the woodsman cared for his charge. I also didn’t mind that they hadn’t got to know each other before sharing their special moment, because it felt different with this more modern time frame and the world we live in now. I believe that this is probably every gay man’s fantasy, I don’t care what they say, being tended to in the forest after a hiking accident, especially if you imagine Henry Cavill in the role of the rescuer, is just a horny as hell scenario.
Kit Bag - J.L. Merrow
It was easy to picture the events of this story in my imagination, because although the environment wasn’t overly described, I’ve been in enough gyms to remember what a changing room looks like. I’ve also spent enough time considering the fun that could be had in one to enjoy the story as wholeheartedly as any other time that I have thought about it. The characters were easily identifiable, once again Henry Cavill came in handy as Harry, while Chris Evans played the part of Sven and Kit Connor’s naive and inexperienced ‘Heartstopper’ performance fit very nicely as the character of Kit the gym attendant. I don’t need to say anymore because any gay man that has ever been to a gym, will know exactly how the story goes, yet I don’t think that will diminish their pleasure of reading this horny tale any less.
The Kennel Club - John Connor
I have never really understood the dog and master thing. It’s a kink that has passed me by, so this chapter didn’t exactly work for me. I did however like the fact that it was set at a much earlier time than the other stories have appeared to be. A Parisian gentleman’s club in 1929 was a great location and the antics described were no real stretch to believe that they might have occurred between old university friends. Even the submissive dog was a realistic suggestion. It still had its erotica, but I felt that it was more about being something different than about delivering a horned up narrative.
Surfing Down Under - Eva Hore
It felt like the author had written two nudist beach tales and struggled to decide which one to submit to Mr. Steele for his collection, before giving up and sending them both in. On that basis alone I didn’t think that they were different enough to warrant being in the same compilation, although this one was still enjoyable, but a little less thought out and a tad dreamy.
Float Your Boat - Landon Dixon
As with this authors previous story there was a lot of metaphor and euphemism used to describe things and it did get a little bit boring. I also found some of it a bit crass, the word “Bung” in particular, and that was a shame because the idea and the events of the characters fishing date, getting frisky and then potentially getting in to trouble, were very sexy, playing out the great fantasy of a real pleasure cruise with a capital P (Now I’m at it). The epilogue especially annoyed me as it wasn’t needed and made Brendan then seem very shallow (No actual pun intended). And in fact it seemed to have been added just to make a few more terrible jokes rather than to enhance the moment captured.
Beach Challenge - Elizabeth Coldwell
A sexy premise and outcome. It was nice to read about “Straight” boys for a change. I could easily picture the locale as a frequent visitor to Cornwall and the description was clear enough to imagine the whole story and its setting with ease. The challenge, a drunken dare in order to divert certain people from suspicions was realistic and the fun had probably quite typical of a group of “Straight” guys who’ve had too much to drink.
A Birthday Present - Ruth Ramsden
I just don’t get the whole rubber slave thing at all and deprivation of oxygen just seems incredibly dangerous to me, especially as I can get claustrophobic in a busy street, so this story about all of those things didn’t really hit my buttons. However, I could appreciate the trail of the narrative and what the author was doing in how they wrote it all from one perspective and monologued.
The Anniversary Gift - Garland
The timeline was a bit off with Duda, the contractor, wanting to use the shower for a night out when he had only just arrived for work. Little things like that bug me and it distracted me a bit, thinking that I’d missed something, I kept going back over the pages to check. It was a very sexy tale though despite coming across a bit like a very stereotypical porn production. I enjoyed the inclusion of more than just the two main characters, as Huston and Sug, introduced new people to their private bedroom and the erotic element was full of all sorts of horny things and a few that were a bit gross too.
Whether the ending was a tad convenient or only meant to cover one affair was unknown, but I liked the overall topic and delivery, because not every relationship can be the same.
Slash And Burn - Michael Bracken
Having read through the rest of Lucas Steele’s ‘Boy Fun’ collection this particular piece seemed rather tame, especially following on from the headiness and hedonism of the previous and sexually charged ‘The Anniversary Gift’.
This skateboarding pair of youths probably wouldn’t have made the edit if I’d been compiling this book and initially I thought that it could have been an gentle first instalment to break the reader in easily, but on second thoughts I didn’t believe that it had enough in those few pages to have made me want to read further if it had actually been the story on page one.
It was a sweet narrative in its way and the relationship seemed cute if a bit unclear to start with and then a bit too convenient on the final page, but it was almost something that you might find in a book for teens at school, as a way of explaining what their confused feelings might mean.
I also felt that there was a need for condoms to be brought up in this one, because Slash felt as if he might not take care of his sexual health very well and a bit unhygienic in general. It wasn’t the first in the compilation that I had felt needed to reference the safe sex tool, but definitely the most relevant to my mind. I don’t usually get bothered with that when I’m reading stories that are prominent with sex, or when I’m writing them, because I think we’re at a point where a lot of men would mention it if it was relevant, certainly with the characters I write, but a few of these stories have felt that they might have benefited from the inclusion of Johnnies or at the very least been important as a reference for the reader to remember their importance when dallying with strangers in the case of ‘Basic Rules Of Anal Sex’, although they were at least mentioned.
Collared - Penelope Friday
I personally would have chosen to end this book with the story ‘The Anniversary Gift’ because it just had that something more to it than this short fetishist story, which could have been shoehorned in anywhere.
It didn’t do anything for me, because I can’t imagine that I would ever be turned on by having a master and definitely not by being a slave, I’ve had enough of that over the years working in retail, hospitality and offices. I also found the whole set up, of going to a club with a slave on its leash, a bit much, although certainly not unbelievable. ——
With the start of this collection, it was a shame that the stories did all seem to be about “Boys”, as per the title, rather than men, because although I was young once, believe it or not, it felt creepy to be thinking of teens in sexual situations. I use the term boy to describe men all the time, but I don’t fantasise about boys or think about them sexually, because I’m not that kind of weird. As such I enjoyed the stories that then had defined adult male protagonists as the book and short stories grew and changed. It was clear that the volume was supposed to be appealing to people from all sorts of backgrounds and it did that well. I was surprised by how much of the more extreme stuff that I did enjoy, as well as the subtler more sweet encounters and the dirty, sweaty passionate affairs.
Lucas Steele could have done with a better proofreader however. There were errors throughout that my OCD had to pencil correct and alas there were some grammar issues too that I just couldn’t fix and couldn’t just be dismissed as colloquial language. It was also fairly obvious that the authors had been given a brief about the themes they could and should write about, with repetition about nudist beaches/beaches in general and log cabins. With all that said, I will definitely be keeping this book on my shelves and returning to it whenever I need a short, sharp, sexual experience.
I liked the front cover of this book! The blurb was short and self explanatory.
The 20 short stories were just that...'short', I haven't read Xcite books before so didn't know what to expect, I was slightly disappointed because the stories were so short. I prefer full length novels but occasionally read short story compilations that usually have 15-17000 words these couldn't be more than 4 or 5000 (although I didn't actually count them!!)
the content was interesting and opened my eyes in an area I haven't ventured before (MM) but perhaps that's the problem for me here, the book is aimed at men who don't require quite as much build up and substance for this type of reading as females do!!!
would I buy an Xcite book??? providing it was a full length novel or a short story compilation with longer stories than these, then yes i would buy one!
I found this book entertainig and well written. the stories make you actually belive you are there witnessing the action and I really enjoyed it. I would reccomend it to anybody with an open mind after a different style of erotic reading
some boy on boy fun. i loved a few of these short stories. one of my faves was the army type one in the beginning of the book...now that was hot! just wish it had of lasted longer *sigh*
Some of these stories really sucked, some of these stories were poignant and sweet and some of them were just so-so. All in all, an interesting collection which offers a tiny bit of all the walks of life: yet they all have one thing in common.
It took me so long to read this book since I got distracted in between, and then had forgotten where I left my copy. Ah well, it's not the end of the world. it was frivolous fun for the most part.
My favorite story was number 10: where a young boy is rescued and needs to be held tightly, closely, warmly in the naked embrace of his rescuer, just so that he can survive the cold! Cute, a bit silly, but overall fun!
A collection of twenty erotic, sexually explicit gay stories with a real variety of themes. I love short stories for the variety they offer and when they're this hot you need them short or you'd never get to the end!
Of these stories 'Kit Bag' was one of my favourites. A well written 3some fantasy come true with the implication of a continuation to the relationship. 4* Also 'Beach Challenge' was one of the more romantic stories in the Boys Fun anthology. Well written and enjoyable. 4*
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As there are 20 very different stories in this collection it is difficult to talk about them all! There is enough variety in locations and chaps that should keep most people entertained and saited.
The first story was good. The next four I read I just couldn't get into and didn't care much for. Maybe I'll come back to give the rest a try another time.
