In a dying world no longer protected by an ozone layer, technology only exists to shelter small amounts of land. A new Cold War has arisen between the United States and new superpower, Japan's Great Union. Both race to develop protective technology for their citizens. Advancements are kept secret with each country hoping the other will fail and perish from the Earth.
Good story, dragged on a little towards the end but it would have in real life too so if Michael was emulating that he succeeded. I guess I'll have to buy the sequel:)
This one was a tough one....great premise - something that one could see coming about given our current world - full of non-stop action, but a little long-in-the-tooth and too drawn out.
Plus, it strains believability. Don't misunderstand me - the book is fiction is supposed to be "make-believe." However, the book is set in the world of our future - with "normal" humans. Without going into spoilers, some of the characters in the book undergo a non-ending series of injuries, yet keeps chugging along - and, in the meantime, accomplishes some unbelievable tasks.
It was an OK read and great action - I really liked the setup and world Rusch constructed...but, I had a hard timing finishing it (and started skimming portions of it) because of the length and the "believability" issues.
Great story, poor execution. Definitely started skimming towards the end just to get the gist of what was happening and because I just wanted a resolution for the story...which the reader doesn't exactly get!!
