We must recognize all people for whom they truly are and not for the characters they pretend to be. A motion picture mogul learns that everyone in his life, including his Emmy-nominated wife, are out to gain more than his multimillionaire estate can buy.

Motion-picture mogul Parrish Clovis learns that everyone is in his life by design— including Hana Kafka, his wife. In just a few short hours, Parrish’s affluent life takes a downward plunge into a seedy world that lands him on the front page of every newspaper in America. He’s been accused of the unthinkable. One problem, though—he can’t remember brutally assaulting and raping his wife. In order for Hana and a crew of out-of-work actors to drain Parrish’s multimillion- dollar estate, they must first set the stage for Parrish to murder his sister by tricking him into thinking he’s really going to kill the woman he was forced to hate: Hana.

Parrish, however, discovers the con. He throws an ingenious twist in the script that will either win him an Oscar…or get him a closed-casket funeral.

Nothing Is as It Seems

“Duplicity” by Oasis centers around Parrish Clovis. Parrish is a multi-millionaire, and someone has hatched an elaborate scheme to gain control of his assets. It begins with Parrish as a young boy from a troubled background up until the media mogul he later becomes.

Strange things begin to happen to Parrish but he easily explains them away. But as time goes by, things go from bad to worse. His enemies take advantage of this weakened mental state and he begins to exhibit bizarre behavior. Finally, he graduates to the point where he can’t distinguish fantasy from reality, friend from foe. Will Parrish detect and stop the intricate plot to drain him of his assets before he loses all sanity?

‘Duplicity” will keep you on your toes while you try to figure out what's going on with the various characters and situations. If you like suspense novels, “Duplicity” is the perfect novel for you.

The plots, twists and turns sort of confused me a bit as the storyline progressed. I'm not sure what category the story even fits into, as it cane be considered a romance-thriller of sorts. With the main character speaking for himself, then other chapters honing in on other characters' plans, it's the type of book where you question what's real and what's not. Some of the sexual parts are steamy and passionate, others are horrific but still in good taste.

Parrish Clovis had his older sister Tuesday to thank for helping him survive years of abuse at the hands of their mother, Catherine. Tuesday frequently earned her and Parrish’s keep as Catherine so eloquently put it because Parrish was a boy and worthless to the men she pawned her daughter off on. But when a customer does take interest in young Parrish it takes very little persuasion before Catherine is willing to barter off Parrish as well to help feed her heroin addiction. Forcing a pre-adolescent Tuesday to put an end to their situation before Parrish could be violated in the same manner as she’d been. Even though on many occasions Parrish was forced into the closet to watch the heinous acts inflicted upon Tuesday but having to participate in them would be far worse.

As an adult Tuesday has underlying issues resulting for the abuse which she likes to conceal with both recreational drugs and recreational sex. While Parrish is a famous movie mogul who doesn’t appear to have any issues resulting from the abuse; that is until he wakes up to police arresting him for assaulting and raping his wife Hana. Thinking that he suffered a one time blackout Parrish soon discovers that he’s experiencing memory loss as well and that there are entire sections of his life missing. Vital things like the fact that a psychologist was treating him for a multi-personality disorder and that he has a mistress that he can’t remember. With the press having a field day at Parrish’s expense and a costly divorce looming Parrish is desperate to get his life in order.

But with his own sister doubting his sanity and the media as well as Hana crucifying him that fete is going to be darn near impossible. Especially when he’s begins to doubt his own sanity with more and more proof of his other life revealing itself. Could the secondary personality be a self preservation mechanism from his past that helped him to survive his troubled youth? Or is it something way more dubious and far reaching than Parrish can even begin to imagine? Author Oasis provides a very engrossing tale with Duplicity, guaranteed to keep readers guessing as to what’s real and what’s make believe.

What did you like best about the book?
The storyline was very original and Parish’s pet bird Rudy was one of the most comedic characters ever providing countless laugh out loud moments.

What did you dislike about the book?
The synopsis is way too revealing easily giving away key points that readers would have been better off discovering for themselves within the book.

How could the author improve this book?
A re-writing of the synopsis would help add the mysterious element back to the read

It was definitely interesting... But I'm not sure if that's good or bad.
it was a quick read. The style was something I hadn't quite seen before. The way it jumped back and forth was confusing at first, once you got used to it then it made a little more sense. Do not read w/ distractions you will be lost. The plot it's self and all the various subplots upon subplots had some major holes in them. Logically the main storyline made no sense. But if you just want to pass the time and see what happens by all means read this. but if you don't, you are not missing anything.

I absolutely loved the twist and turns this story had to offer. What started out for me as a 'Did he really do it?' ended up being a 'Hadn't they suffered enough to deserve better.' This cast of characters put a lot of effort into a plot they thought was infallible and expected the supposed meek to just give up on self and slither away. I did learn an important lesson... Never make a rash decision and trust yourself first.

I can't give a complete review because I failed to finish reading it. I just didn't like the way the story was written. The description of the book is so intriguing but the way the story reads is boring. I don't like books that take a while to start to pick up. I suggest picking it up at the library if you're really interested. Don't waste your money...
