The main character is pretty cool and was has a pretty dope sword but he has some sort of weird neck fetish so umm... that's pretty cool. (We out here not judging)

Closer to 2.5 stars
This was bizarre. It just jumps right in with no introduction to the MC or the setting. While I like jumping right into the action I wish it had taken just a page or two to get a feel for Shintaro. And the rabbit thing with him. Is it a familiar? Monster? Or cursed servant? This is packed full of action and comedy. A lot of it over the top.

I love the old Tokyopop manga. Kanpai has a lot of energy and fun characters, especially Kenken!

I love manga, but this... is completely stupid. Granted it was published in 2005 and I got it for cheap from a used bookstore, but plot is erratic, jokes don't hit, sexism is heavy, everything is over the top and speeding by so fast you can barely register what's going on at times. It's like a spoof of action/supernatural manga, and if it's not, it's sad... and even if it is, it doesn't matter, because it's not funny. Sigh.

This is definitely an interesting story and the comedy is exactly what you'd expect from Maki Murakami. I don't like the female lead too much but I feel that's the point. If you enjoy "Gravitation" you'll enjoy this story as well.

Definitely a good read but I won’t be buying the next volumes unless I can find them really cheap!

This was...something. It was definitely something. Our story follows Yamada Shintaro, a monster protector, on his journey to keep the monsters of Japan from being exorcised. Unfortunately for Yamada, he's about to get distracted big time by sassy popular girl, Nao Arisaka or, more specifically, the nape of her neck. Nao seems to be a magnet for the supernatural and her flippant attitude doesn't seem to help matters. Toss in a werewolf (I think), a ghost and an actual exorcist and you've got a fully loaded deck. Except there doesn't seem to be a plot? That's my one qualm about this manga. We just seem to follow Yamada around as he obsesses over Nao in a very Brock from Pokemon sort of way. I gave this manga three out of five starts but it's more like a 2.5 stars because I just wanted so much more. The only reason I kept reading was because it was like watching a train wreck, I had to see how it ended. Needless to say, I won't be continuing this series.
