The Ascendant Path - Captive

Magic is strictly for the gods.

That rule is one that Layten and all Northerners follow to the letter. Only fools and those who would do evil would ever attempt to usurp the power that the gods use. But now, after the events of the Anchorhold, Layten and his friends, Hopwell, Wix, and Gilly are thrust into a land where magic rules. Prisoners of Calmar, the single most powerful caster in the world of Alos, Layten and the others search for a way home.

As Vilom plots to complete the task set forth by Sartum, Calmar discovers secrets of his own. Secrets that could break the North and all they hold to be true.

The truth of Sartum's plan is becoming clear, and everyone is playing a part. Except for one mysterious figure...

Born and Raised in Sunny (sometimes) Florida, I grew up in a house of readers. I've always been into good Sci-Fi, fantasy, and technology. In fact I ended up somehow working in the IT field for the last 13 years.
One of the things that surprised me about my career was the interaction of people with technology. How blindly trusting people are of whatever the computer says on it, regardless if what it's saying is even possible.
When I decided to write, I chose to play in the space of the interaction between people and technology, and reality vs. perception.

Audiobook: I enjoyed book 4 of "The Ascendant Path" even more than the earlier books. Once the audiobook started, I was so engrossed in the story that I had to listen until the end. This book explored even more the theme regarding the attraction and use of magic and how that power corrupts the user. This book ended on a cliffhanger, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. David Gurney's narration was engaging, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
