I've loved reading through the Tamara Hayle series, but so far, this installment is the weakest link due to Tamara doing zero detective work and making terrible decisions from beginning to end. What is up with private investigators putting themselves in harms way just because? It's silly and not interesting to read at all.

Hoping Tamara regains some common sense in book #4.

Tamara Hayle is an ex-cop PI on vacation in Jamaica when she meets three people who invite her out for drinks. After the man sitting across from her gets stabbed to death in the heart, all hell breaks loose. Drug money, Jamaican gangsters, a love interest, and a cast of intriguing characters bring this romantic mystery to life. Valerie Wilson Wesley has a way with prose that is all her own, and it will keep you turning pages.

Tamara always finds herself in predicaments without any weapon to use except her mind. Now she's in another country and has lost her passport, identification and money. Her wits and skills keeps her on her toes but whom can she trust? The cops are getting closer and she's getting hungry; for food and the truth. When you think something isn't right, nine times out of ten you need to listen to your instincts.well plotted and a good storyline. I thought for sure she was a goner with Scratch.

This book was fun and a break from my usual read. Something about a female, African American, ex-cop, single mom, P.I. makes for a fun ride. It is a "who done it" but that's really not the fun part; the fun part is following Tamara on her personal journey and how these things affect her personal life.

I have read all of the Tamara Hayle mysteries. I was first introduced to her by my very first supervisor after high school back in 1997. Since then I have read the entire series and I am always looking for the next one. I hope you decide to write another soon. I miss her a lot.

The third in a series of novels that features former cop turned P.I. Tamara Hayle. Book 3 in the series leaves Newark as we travel with Tamara on a "vacation" to Jamaica. Eventually we find out this is anything BUT a vacation. A slow start to this novel bored me in the beginning, but boy did that speed up QUICK. Filled with twists and turns, you don't know who to trust. The book leaves you wondering just how did that first night all go down again and who was involved?

Book 2 in the series had a very, very slow pace with a unsettling storyline. I'm glad the pace picked up with this book. Definitely enjoyed it. Time to request book #4.

Wesley's streetwise PI goes to Jamaica for a vacation and ends up swiftly getting embroiled in multiple murders which circle around a group of friends she goes out clubbing with one night. I liked Tamara and her distinct view of the world. A lot of this book is more adventure/thriller then classic detection but I enjoyed her outlook and was surprised by the ending.

So good! Just like #1 & #2. But I just gotta say this — Basil Dupree getting on my damn nerves. He a lie and a half. Tamara’s right not to trust an ounce of him. PERIOD.

While on vacation in Jamaica, a private investigator from New Jersey stumbles into grand theft and multiple murders. Plot twists permeate this page-turner. A quick, entertaining read.

This is a pretty good book about a black-chick P.I. who encounters murderers whilst on vacation in Jamaica. I enjoyed the story, even though there were some stupidities which I couldn't resist noting in the margins. (to wit: several comments were made about a woman wearing a tight red tube dress, then later she pulled some money out of her blouse; "my head knocked against my chin" - Unless her face was hinged in the middle, how??) The P.I. woman did some really stupid things and didn't act a bit like the ex-cop and investigator she supposedly was.

At the time I read this, I really enjoyed it. I thought the series was discontinued. I missed several newer books. I really enjoyed the Hayle character.

The book was too slow. And the behavior of the lead character, a former policeman, was unbelievable. I gave up after 50 pages

Tamara Hayle is in Jamaica, on a well deserved vacation. She makes an impulsive decision to spend time with a new friend from her hotel, they end up in a shady bar with two men acquainted with the new friend. And then the shooting starts. And then she loses track of her bag. How Ms Hayle resolves this challenge consumes the rest of this gritty tale.
