Can Parker live up to the challenge?

Parker Townsend couldn't be more excited as he sets off for England to train for the Olympics, taking with him two headstrong horses and some very high hopes. At first he's thrilled to see the beautiful country estate where he'll be staying. But it's not too long before he discovers that the English do things very differently from what he's used to. Since he's a guest, he has to listen to whatever his trainers say, no matter how much he disagrees with them. Although Parker worries that this could jeopardize his Olympic Dream, he determined to find a way to prove to everyone, including himself, that he and his horses are Olympic caliber after all.

This is a throwaway book in the series. You can safely skip this. In fact, you can skip all of the books featuring Parker Townsend such as Team Player, Close Call, Parker's Passion and this. When the series finally limped to an ending, Parker's story arc is never completed.

For some outlandish lack of reason, Parker and his two horses go to England for special training so they can get into the Olympics ... maybe. Parker has to deal with his host's daughter from hell, Fiona, who could use with a severe beating, or jail time, because she hates all horses except one. Her father's horse.

Not sure if author Karle Dickerson was a Freudian, and really don't care.

I wonder who the brainiac at HarperCollins was who decided to give this book the same title as Charkes' Dickens classic. A desperate attempt to get sales from people who think they are buying the Dickens novel? Did it work at all?

The book has slapstick in the beginning, but then this bitch Fiona hurts horses, making this fluff of a book suddenly extremely unfunny. In fact, it made me sick to my stomach.

Just a waste of trees.

Thoroughbred had many gaps in the story arcs of several main characters. There were Super Editions and Lost Diary Specials to fill in the missing parts of their stories. There is a lot about Parker's back story which is a total blank. Like why his name was changed from Lawrence Hotchkiss-Ross in book 16, Glory In Danger to Parker.

Horses who appear here found elsewhere in the series include The Wizard of Oz, Foxglove, and Wonder's Star.

There is practically no backstory given (unusual for a Thoroughbred book), so if you haven't read any of the Christina and Parker books, then you'll be lost. Just skip this and try your luck with the Dickens.
