This book gave me some good information about how to go about lowering my high cholesterol. I started the niacin treatment, but unfortunately found that I suffer rashes from it and have since discontinued. I plan to use the other information to hopefully lower my cholesterol.

An excellent resource, thoroughly explains a wide range of options for lowering your cholesterol without reflexively jumping to statin drugs. He explains complex treatment options and physiological processes clearly. His personal motivation to take control of his own health (and his success in doing so) makes every chapter engaging. Reasonable and non-info-mercial-like. The only thing I didn't like was that his only real method for losing weight was low-carb ketosis. No thanks. Still, I learned so much about the impact of my lifestyle and have many more options to discuss with my doctor.

Each line expressing his love of life and his family, as well as his enthusiasm for helping people through medical journalism, proved bittersweet since Mr. Kowalski passed away of a pulmonary embolism only 5 years after publishing this book. Sometimes you just can't beat your own genetics. Still a great book.

My doctor had me read this because he thought I was going to have high cholesterol. I didn't, thankfully, because there's no way I'd do what this book tells you to do unless I thought I was going to die.

A friend gave this to me. Blah blah, less carbs, more exercise. Keto-something-or-other.

In summary, take niacin supplements to control your cholesterol. Otherwise, the rest of the book is standard advice on making heart healthy diet choices and exercising.

This was a pretty good book. Similar to "South Beach" except I liked this one better.

“My Liver Hates My Guts,” is the title of a country western tune and reflects my opinion of this book’s cholesterol-lowering program. A big part of Kowalski’s cure, in addition to diet, is mega dosing on niacin in amounts exceeding 100 times more than the minimum daily requirement for adults. To his credit, he issues caveats that go with this practice. I am not comfortable with it at all, however.
