Two dead bodies. A web of conspiracies and cover-ups. A young detective, searching for answers to the case . . . and to his heart. The body of a retired, wheelchair-bound rail yard worker has been discovered on the tracks near his home. A tragic accident--or murder? Detective Antonio "Mac" McAllister and his new partner, attractive rookie Dana Bennett, suspect the worst. And their suspicions are confirmed when they encounter the complicated web of conspiracies and cover-ups that surround the cast, including burglary, arson, and yet another murder. Now Mac and Dana need to find the killer before he can destroy more evidence--or take anyone else's life. Mac also needs answers to a personal life that is just as complicated. He still has feelings for Dana, but after a pleasant dinner with the eccentric medical examiner, he's more confused than ever. Though as his former partner and mentor reminds him, God has the answer that Mac doesn't--for this case, for Mac's doubts . . . and for the longings of his heart.

Loved this one. This was my favorite of the McAllister series so far. I love all the characters. The opening scene of this one had me hooked. I couldn't believe how everything progressed and how it all came together in the end. So good. I couldn't read this one fast enough! Can't wait to start the next one.
Have really been enjoying this Oregon based series. Perfect combo of crime, relationship development, faith based conversation about God and character development. I have been enjoying the whole series and am sass I'm heading into the last book. Recommended!!
Christian-based mystery. Clean and engaging, with some well- placed twists. Not a cliffhanger but has a lead in to the next in series. Nice way to “get away from TV news stuff” time.
I was really pleasantly surprised by this book. I picked it up at my local Christian bookstore and I was expecting your normal all tied up happy ending and resolution. What I got was a gritty mostly gripping mystery with real characters and real questions. Not all of the characters were Christians who had their lives together, nor were the Christian characters having pages long conversations about why their non Christian counterparts needed God, which was a nice change from the evangelical heavy novels I usually read of this type.. In fact this was the middle of the series and I have a suspicion that this book is a bit low on the God factor due to characters and storylines being what they are. That's okay because the references to God didn't feel forced.
And a fun fact is that I thought I recognized the author's name and it turns out I did, I read a series for kids that she wrote and liked it a lot for many of the same reasons that I like this one even if I couldn't articulate it at the time. I am excited to find the rest of the series.
The plot was great! Kept me trying to figure out what and how this tragedy could have happened to an elderly man. Greed, deceit, corruption. Really enjoy these authors for clear clean writing. Great intriguing characters. Love the explanations of police, detective, morgue details. Not all of us are familiar with the area of behind the scenes detective, criminal analysis work. The only reason I gave less than full 5 star rating was because of typos, run-ons, etc. Drove me crazy. I downloaded the e-book from the library. I don't know if this made a dif. I hope not. When I downloaded the next book in the series, using another app, all was great. Thought I'd let you know.....
Excellent book and a lot of fun to read... already have #4 lined up to read and am looking forward to the story. #4 is the end of this particular series and I think I will miss the characters. Love reading books that have familiar places in them and these fit the bill !!! Recommend to one and all!!!
A compelling, gritty, true-to-life murder mystery. I couldn't put this book down - one of the authors is actually a cop, and the other is a psychologist, so reading this actually felt a lot like watching Law and Order.
Borrowed from my church library. This was a very good police procedural novel, but not for the squeamish: There are pretty explicit descriptions of body parts of a victim hit by a train.
