Her mother was a heroine, her father a rampaging Hulk! What path is the savage She-Hulk called Lyra on, and why has it led her to add her might to the Wizard's Frightful Four?
3.25 stars. The beginning and middle of this book was the best. There were some awesome fights as Lyra had to take out those three powered fighters. Forgive me, I can’t remember their names. The end of the book was cute but a pretty simple ending.
Okay. Cool. Honestly I don’t have any big feelings for this one for good or bad. It was just okay. I definitely find the women more interesting. Really cool how “facts are less exciting than myths” and the women helped each other.
But I’m tired of the trope of evil men says sexist thing and then girl power girl punches him or something. Just…please stop having men say sexist things. I’m tired of it.
Also in some of these comics the women’s breasts were straight up circles right underneath their necks. It was silly. I don’t care if that’s someone’s art style or not. It looks ridiculous.
Well apparently this is not the first book in the series so that could explain why I was slightly lost at times. This volume has very little Jen Walters, but rather it stars Lyra, the daughter of the Hulk (banner) and Thundra, so that was somewhat disappointing. Really great art work with a mediocre story.
So we see Lyra the agent of ARMOR and she fights some weird techno monsters and then the next she is looking for Jen but she is confronted by the 3 soldiers who are basically hybrids of Project Achillies (hulk villains captured by She-hulk in slott run) and well its a fun story about her getting her own villains and it shows up how messed up they are and the origins of "Origin Corp." (pun intended lol) and yeah its fun and then seeing ho she finds Jen, the second arc ties into "Fall of the hulks" event and yeah its okay, but I like some moments here.
How she rescues Jen and maybe has a change of character after meeting her father but that moment with Thundra and thus getting the full character arc was so awesome and like the mother-daughter moment in the end was the highlight for me.
Its a fun read and sees Lyra change as she accepts this reality and grows close to all especially Jen who acts as kinda her mentor and thats awesome, so yeah do give it a read and if you're reading the event, its sorta crucial and you will enjoy it for sure!
This volume focused on the She-Hulks, but we still end up in the same place:
The entire Fall of the Hulks event was really just a lead in to World War Hulks. Each volume seemed to be missing something, but when you put them all together you do get a fairly clear picture of what's led up to World War Hulks.
I really like Lyra, and was happy when I found this book continues where the All-New She-Hulk left off. This book was ok, unfortunately Boudicca is a bit under-used, so the funny factor is kind of missing from the story. Instead, we get lots of action, as well as appearances by Thundra and She-Hulk (Jen). Solid artwork.
These tie-in issues featurning the feminine hulks aren't the deepest stories around, but they are highly entertaining with some fantastically fun art and meaningful action.
Tie-in books are rarely essential reading and this is no exception. Still it was a lot of fun to see the She-Hulks hanging out and smashing stuff. I would read this series and had a good time with these issues on their own.
The Van Lente story that kicks things off begins OK, but then it becomes an over-long and decompressed fight [5/10]. The Parker story is surely better written, with some actual depth, but it loses something with its constant fighting and its incoherent crossovers with Fall of the Hulks [6/10].
