Twisted Things

Rate this book
Rescued after hours in the freezing water clinging onto the wreckage of her yacht, Clara Conner wakes up in Dover hospital with hazy memories of the accident that put her there. Patrick, her husband, is missing, presumably killed by the explosion that tore the Connemara apart. Haunted by shocking and violent images, Clara becomes convinced that Patrick was murdered and that she was attacked; but are these really memories or are they just trauma induced fantasies? As Clara begins to sort through Patrick’s business affairs, she soon realizes that her husband had led a double life. He was involved with criminals and owed someone a lot of money. So when a mysterious man appears to be watching the house and following Clara’s every move, her fears for her own safety, and that of her twelve-year old son, begin to grow. Could this man be the attacker who killed Patrick and tried to murder her and does he want to finish the job?

Supposedly this is written by an Englishwoman but it reads as if it's translated from some other language. The dialogue is stilted, the plot jumps around and the story doesn't flow from chapter to chapter. It's almost as if part of the story was removed for some reason and the remaining story wasn't "retrofitted" to make sense.

The plot itself wasn't bad but there was just too much going on and none of it fit together very well. Too many holes, too many improbabilities (like the heroine suddenly being able to hack into well protected computers when she needed someone else to recover a crashed computer a week ago). Most of it just didn't make sense.

I forgot to review this book ! Or add to my "read" list.
Noticed on my Amazon unlimited kindle .......
I'd describe the vibe of this book as "tension"..... the main character's life
is threatened and she is trying to unravel what happened to her after
almost drowning. Deceitful characters, intrigue, no romance really,
friendship themes.....
I enjoyed it - not my normal genre really but I've read more "thrillers"
lately because I've found some where the conclusion etc. is not totally obvious.

Not a bad storyline, I quickly became fond of the characters (well, must of them)..
I would've liked just one more chapter to explain 'what then?' but all it was a good read and I'll keep an eye out for more from the same Author.

Blass, konstruiert und zum Teil kitschig. Spannung kommt nur oberflächlich vor und erreicht mich als Leser nicht. Daher irgendwann nur noch überflogen.
