Little Miss Bad is not good. She is always doing naughty things and worst of all, she lies! When she is asked directions to the town by Miss Quick - Miss Bad sends her the opposite way. And one day she lies to Mr Greedy that the baker has no more cakes! Everyone is getting very fed up with Miss Bad's lies. How will they get her to start telling the truth?
Adam Hargreaves is an English author and illustrator. The son of Roger Hargreaves, he continues his father's popular Mr. Men series of children's books. Hargreaves also served as inspiration for the series. When at the age of six he asked his father "What does a tickle look like?", Roger used that question to create the first book, Mr. Tickle.
Little Miss Scary spends most of her time in the book scaring most of the other Mr Men and Little Miss characters in Happy Land (which she is extremely good at), this is where all the Mr Men and Little Miss characters live and the book is based. One day Mr Noisy went to see his friend Mr Jelly, when Mr Noisy saw Mr Jelly he was shaking and his teeth were chattering; Mr Jelly explained that Little Miss Scary keeps on shouting ‘BOO’ and scaring him. Mr Noisy had a plan; him and Mr Jelly hid behind a bush and waited till Little Miss Scary came. They followed quietly behind her and then shouted ‘BOO’; Little Miss Scary was so scared she jumped 5ft into the air and then ran all the way back to her house. When Mr Noisy turned around to congratulate his friend, he wasn’t there, Mr Noisy chuckled and went to see if Mr Jelly ran back to hide under his bed.
Little Miss Scary is the thirty first book written from the Little Miss series of books. Each Little Miss book introduces a new character in which its main personality trait is dominant and is used as her name and used to show a moral lesson. This is a fun and relatable book because everybody has tried to hide and scare someone before, but Little Miss Scary is just a perfectionist at her art.
I love the Mr Men and Little Miss book series because of the moral lessons at the end and the different personalities used in every book and character. This makes it relatable to children because they can compare dominant personality traits to the characters and decide which character they are most alike. The moral story at the end also allows the children to learn a lesson within the book, and in Little Miss Scary’s case it was to not scare people if they didn’t like or if you wouldn’t like it yourself. The Mr Men and Little Miss characters are quite detailed and captivating in imagery, even though the drawing of the characters are quite basic it is very effective and children seem to love it and it could allow the children to be able to draw the characters quite easily.
This book and the series can be used within the Classroom very effectively; because of the simplicity of the writing I think children will be able to use these books for independent reading, if stuck they can sound out the words or use the dictionary. It can also be used to support English, to help children to understand characters and help to develop their own characters within stories they eventually write. When the children learn about moral stories this book and the series can be used as an example to show the children, you can ask the children if they can identify the moral within this story. It can also be used within Humanities because of the moral within the story, it can teach children not to do things to others not if you wouldn’t like it done to them.
Overall I would love to use these series of books within a classroom; they are fun, exciting, simple to understand and an excellent way to explain morals. (Age range:3-6)
Ah, Mr Men and Little Miss, how wonderful you are!
These books made up so much of my childhood. No matter what I would go ahead and pick one up. I worked my way through them all a couple of times. Each one has a wonderful story for the child to engage with, each character being fun to read.
Everyone has a bias for their favourite character, yet every book is delightful.
Very relatable. As a kid I was madame Terreur and my sister was monsieur Peureux and my mum was monsieur Bruit but instead of scaring me back she just yelled at me. But I didn't give up, no, I did not nick off to my Villa Frousse, I did the unthinkable and I went after Monsieur Bruit. Would not recommend, was a bad idea, I regretted it for a long time afterwards. But this is solid evidence as to why I am more madame Terreur than madame Terreur, and in this review, I will pitch myself and my (abridged) life story as the next book in the series, which I have decided will be named Big Ms Terrifying...
I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books. I remember getting them from my granny every week. There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order. I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away. If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.
Well well, when you want to be a naughty and did some crazy thing like scaring people it may be fun in the first time, but doing it every day for the entire life won't be good at all, some people will be so angry and some can't endure it, have fun with friends but not scaring them, or else, you will face same thing of what happened to Little Miss Scary.
I've not really enjoyed the Little Miss Books as much as the Mr. Men - most of them seem to be sort of retreads, especially the ones with the same names as certain Mr. Men. Out of all the Little Miss books I've read this is the best (better than a lot of the Mr. Men ones too) and great fun for reading out loud!
My son always liked reading this more than I did. It was never one of his favourites though. Lots of loud shouting of BOO never hurts keep the youngsters amused.
I just spent three long (and very emotional) weeks reading (getting lost in) the HUGE beast known as IT. And although I have a thousand other books I want to read, I didn't want to start anything else. Not yet.
So, what did I do? I decided to read this. 😊
I happen to have a copy of this book in my writing nook, and since I was sorting my stationery this morning I stopped for a bit to spend some time with this cheeky character.
Little Miss Scary likes to come down from her creepy house at the top of the hill to scare the other Mr. Men and Little Miss. She hides in the dark and creeps up on them. But what happens when one of them decides to do something about it?
I really enjoyed this! It was fun.
I used to love reading these books when I was a kid, and then enjoyed them all over again when I read them to my daughter when she was little. And today, this was the perfect story to read. It was just what I needed. Something light but creepy. Something short but interesting. And something with bright pictures, instead of tightly-packed text. 😂
This was cute and charming. Little Miss Scary might be a sneaky prankster, but I still like her.
It is difficult to be scary when you are very cute, and this hilarious cute story of miss scary scaring others and then having the tables turned on her is fun and not scary, but awfully cute and just wonderful. Little Miss #31.
A quick little bedtime tale with a lot of little lessons. Despite being about someone called ‘Little Miss Scary’ the book itself isn’t scary to the kids at all. At least not the ones I’m reading to.
